bigbadboab Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 After 15 years of love, affection and very loyal service, I had to have the family dog, Sam, put to sleep last night. Of all the things I have done in my life, and there is a lot, this was the hardest decision that as a family, I have had to do. He will be sadly missed by all RIP Sam, enjoy the after life.[]
Gumball Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Sorry to hear this news. It must as you say be one of the hardest things you can do. My golden retriever and my subaru are my things in life. jobs come and go, so do other things. I can imagine how you are feeling today[]

pink pepper Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 thoughts are with you and your's - a family pet is one of the family, i know how you feel, my cat was killed two years ago in a RTA and ally and I where the ones to find him on the road, terrible sight..... remains with me to this day. nothing ever seems to fill the void that they leave. remember all the good times!
NightOwl Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I feel for you m8. I had exactly the same decision to make last year for my German Shepherd. Felt hellish. At least Sam's in a better place now and not suffering.
john mac Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I feel for your loss,we lost our Rottie called Ben after 11 Yrs in November and it broke our hearts,he went really suddenly with a heart problem and we couldn't let him suffer,we stayed with him to the end and he knew we were there. Its just a sad day when their time comes but your pain will ease mate and you will always remember the good times!!(and the not so good times like when he wolfed my huge Toblerone)[] This is a wee poem i found at the time while surfing Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... ..............John
bigbadboab Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 That poem is what I hope he is going to. Thanks for the kind words. I have questioned myself all day if we had made the right decision and I know we have. I have had a really s!hit day and my wife is in absolute tatters. The house seems so quiet and empty, but as they say "Time is a great healer". Cheers
wrxmania Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 The decision will have been the right one - my wife has to help people make them every day - very difficult for staff and owners alike. Brian []

iain_spink Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 Feel for you too Boab. Last year I had to put down Morlich, my Chesapeake Bay Retreiver and faithful servant of 14years after he got a cancerous tumour inside his mouth. Hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life but I now realise it was the right thing to do.
