Fuel Pump and Regulator

Evning Guys.

Couple of questions [;)]

My current spec of car. 97 STi Type-RA. Full Hayward & Scott Turbo back (fully decatted), Green cotton panel filter, VF28 turbo, rest of engine standard STi spec.

Been advised that i should upgraded my fuel pump to stop any potential problems, i`m looking at getting an Apexi later this year.

Now all the talk seems to be for the Walbro 255 fuel pump but should i also upgrade the regulator to something like the FSE Regulator at the same time?

Just wondering what others have done? I`m hoping to take the car upto about 350hp in the near future so would like to make upgrades future proof.

Also i`m getting my Oil pressure and temp guage fitted, where is the most common place for the temp probe to be fitted? my mechanic prefers putting it in the sump, is this commom? also to make the job easier he wants me to get another sump so he can strengthen the location for the sensor, is there any upgrades over the STi one? or what kind of price does an STi sump go for?

Any input would be greatly appreciatted.

Cheers

Ian

Yep, get the Walboro and pay a bit more, for an SX regulator. www.asperformance.com will sort you out with them.

Oil pressure sender unit, fit's directly into where the OE unit is....underneath and slightly to the left, of the alternator. Never fitted it anywhere else but here. Defo the easiest way.

Oil temp is awkward. It's ontop of the block again and infront of and to the right slightly of the turbo. There's a blanking plug with an Allen key hole ontop of it. You need to either buy a modified blanking plug, of modify it yourself, by drilling and tapping it, to suit the oil temp sender.

Can't help on the fuel pump and regulator issue but i recon you could get a sump from a breaker for a pretty decent price.Try findapart.co.uk ect and im sure you'll come up with something.

Anyone else got any opinion?

Aye, I do..

Your choice of pump is fine

Regulator is also fine.

Drb5 has covered the location on the oil pressure pick up point

The oil temperature can be taken from the sump and is easy to do by getting the sump plug drilled and tapped. 1/8th npt normaly.

You can either tap the original one or get another one and prepare it so you have less down time.

agree with all comments so far. dont do what ive done tho, as i tried to fit the temp sender on to an extended tee piece from lma motorsports ( from the original pressure switch port). the pressure sender will work fine here (cos mines does!) but it seems a bit far from the real oil temp and conduction is the only way the heat can then reach the dead end! doh..

im about to remove the i/c to access the plug near the turbo but every time i try to prise the plastic pipe from the base of the intercooler off i loose the bottle as it feels like its going to snap!

so think ill get my mate to do it so i can blame him if it busts;)

good luck

Hey cheers for the replies guys really appreciatte it.

On regards to the sump my mechanic said that the STi sumps are baffled to an extent is this true? or is there an upgrade over the STi one?

If i`m going to be using the car for track days what kind of oil pump/sump/cooling setup should i be thinking about?

I think what he meant about strengthing was to weld a plate to the sump then tap the sensor into that and not the sump plug.

Cheers
