craig mac Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Folks I have always used Autoglym Super Resin polish and then the Autoglym High Gloss afterwards, this has always given me a great finish, i do this maybe 4 times a year What does everyone else use and how does it compare to the above? IE Ease of use and repeatability, how often does it need doing? What would you all suggest and reasons why? Craig[]
dougster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 http://www.performanceparts4u.com/about_swissol.asp Swissol by a mile. Check with Fulham71 as he was offering a decent discount recently. PP4
oobster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Craig I used Autoglym products and although I found they were easy to apply and remove, I wasn't impressed by how long they lasted. Water beading on panels would disappear within 2 weeks of polishing the car. Seems a lot of folks on here & SNet use either Meguiars products, or Swissol. I use Meguiars NXT polish (purple bottle, green lid) which doesn't break the bank and is just as easy as the Autoglym to apply/remove. I use the wee yellow Meguiars sponges for applying. The Meguiars seems to last quite well, especially when you use the bright-pink Meguiars carwash foam when cleaning the car too. Doesn't strip as much of the polish off as the old Fairly Liquid used to! I tend to polish my car about once a month in the late-spring/summer/early-autumn weather, which is maybe just a WEE bit too often.
Boyakasha Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Craig chuck that Super Resin polish in the bin and get some swissol as Dougster has said. That Polish is on the same lines as T-cut just not as extreme but it still cuts the paint each time you use it. You should gte Swissol Cleanser which you use once every 6 months, then a good wax which you can apply as often as you like. Swissol in my view is the best, and it smells sweet []
killa Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Just thought I would mention polish is one thing and swissol wax is another..
st3ph3n Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Craig, the Meguiars website is very good at explaining the difference between polishes and waxes etc. - www.meguiars.co.uk I think. Anyhoo, I wouldn't use a "Polish" on my car as it is of course and abbrasive. Like the others have said - Swissol all the way. Once every 6 months/a year you go for the full daddy treatment of wash the car thoroughly with the swissol shampoo, then use the paint cleaner to strip off all the wax. Then apply the swissol wax. I'd then wash the car weekly, and wax monthly or there abouts. It's so easy to use, yet it's tremendously effective. It smells fantastic also. I also use the meguairs hot wheels cleaner with a soft wheel brush for looking after my alloys. I have swissol autobahn wheel wax for them too. Autosol for the exhaust. RainX for the windows of course, it is truly genius. I get on quite nicely with the Armorall wipes for the interior, after a good hoooooovering of course.
Boyakasha Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Just thought I would mention polish is one thing and swissol wax is another.. Yeah I think a lot of people confused the two terms. Polish/cleansing is when you prepare the paint surface prior to waxing [8-|]
dougster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I used all the products to prep the paintwork including the clay bar. Then added the wax Craig your car shouldn't need as much preperation as mine did (first time it was done was at 75k!!!!!!) Cleansing bath and a go with a Clay Bar (I can send you one if you wish) should prep it nicely. Swissol is best applied in the sun IMHO opinion to let it bake!!! It is also the EASIEST to use and even brings up the plastics and windows to an incredible finish. And as Boyakasha said it smells nice and according to Mark Underwood (aka Wax Wizard) EDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
RA Dunk Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 i use zymol polish..havent tried wax yet but looking into it now []
duka Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Zymol Titanium wax - I get from Serious Performance - not the cheapest but it lasts for ages and I'm now on my 2nd jar in 4½ years
st3ph3n Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 If you are only using polish then you're leaving your paint work EXPOSED!
RA Dunk Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 ok so how does this work then do i need to use some kind of cleaning (stuff) to remove all the polish (if so what ya recommend) then apply the wax?? then polish ontop of wax?
dougster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Ac!D check the link I posted earlier as it gives you all the info you need.
gus the bus Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Good old Liquid Gold for me! Used it on all my cars for the last 10 years. Easy to apply and even easier to remove with a great finish. Comes in 5 litre cans![] I wouldn't use anything else now![] Gus
dougster Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 http://cgi.ebay.com/MEGUIARS-GOLD-CLASS-LI...1QQcmdZViewItem Gold Class Liquid on e-bay with an hour to go!!!!!!!! Glasgow based seller.
st3ph3n Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 That's quite an interesting read that as it's different from what I did for the wax stage. The instructions I had said to wax an area (say 1 panel), leave for 10 minutes then buff. That says to wax the entire car, leave it for a while, then start buffing. Anyone do it that way? I think I'll order myself a clay bar to go with the rest of my kit and get myself mentally prepared for the slog that will be getting the car back into tip top condition after the winter. But when I stand back and look at when it's finish then it'll be all worth it. Nothing quite like a freshly waxed black car.
vicki Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I use swissol products. The wax is so easy to use and doesn't take much effort. Also smells good enough to eat []
frank c Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I've been using some Farecla (spelling) wax and polish that i got from work.Has anybody else used this product before??
RA Dunk Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 ok it seems like theres quite alot of diffrent types of cleaners and waxes whats the best to choose?
andrew_lally Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 polishing to brake discs only on my machine.....man its a mess the now.....lol regards
craig mac Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 Doug Cleanser? which one then the clay bar that you will send me ;-) The liquid gold will that do the job? Craig
dougster Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 Standard cleaner fluid, car bath and I had the Saphir wax. Not cheap but the best and lasted for AGES!!! Applicators and lint free cloths can be bought in Halfrauds although ask PP4U to send you some if you get a few items from them. (10% SIDC discount as well)
st3ph3n Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 If you've got a costco membership then Silicon blades from there are so cheap it's criminal. £2.99 I think, for the EXACT same product (quite literally) that Scoobyworld sold to me for £14.99. Also in costco is a 40 pack of towels which are very soft and great for washing then drying what the silicon blade can't get. Also buffing etc. Cost was again something ridiculous like £8 the lot.
