OK. Insurance companies are scum so can anyone tell me what would happen if I removed the Prodrive box off my 05 WRX PPP and replaced it with a standard one?

This is a very serious consideration at the moment. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Zeolite,

Yours is the 300 like mine yeh!?! Which means it is actually part of the standard spec with the Prodrive stuff!. Knowing insurance companies they would probably see the "standard box" as a modification. The nutters!face-icon-small-shocked.gifface-icon-small-confused.gif

All depends on how insurance companys view the car, if it is the uk300 you have was it not model approved? or is it classed as a modded WRX by Subaru? Wondering as the WR1 was model approved & insurance companys have it on their databases as a specific model of Impreza & it being a standard car as it came delivered with all the bits ie Prodrive exhaust, PPP etc fitted. The uk300 should be the same i thought? Does it not come delivered with PPP, Prodrive exhaust fitted?

I was quoted cheaper for WR1 than a STI with PPP from every company i called as they saw the STI as a modded car with a performance upgrade. Differance ranged from £200 - £300 more for the STI face-icon-small-shocked.gif

Why is it just the exhaust your insurance company is bothered about? & not the whole PPP package?

Not to do with the sound but the insurance and I can't get cheaper. Due to the circumstances we are talking about a HUGE amount of money.

The insurers DO consider the PPP as a modification and charge 50% more because of it. The only obvious modification is the exhaust so if I remove that it will be back to WRX 300 standard spec.

Elephant/Admiral/Bell Direct group have the WRX300 listed as a model I am sure. It was cheaper for me to insure than (and an STI 302 BHP also listed) than my own car standard.

The PPP is a standard part of the WRX 300 is it not? So it should be covered for the exhaust as it is part of the PPP and running a standard back box would not be good for PPP surely? Very restrictive box.

Hope you get it sorted - a pain...

I'm with Admiral and again WRX300 with PPP (which is stardard spec for the 300) is listed as a model and was/is cheaper than a standard WRX with the PPP. (thats why i bought the 300! face-icon-small-smile.gif)

I'm paying £438 with fully protected maximum NCD, Class 1 Business use and legal cover.

If yer getting silly quotes give them a go! I was getting some ridiculous quotes before.

I did try Keith Michaels and he was more expensive than Egg. Will try the others though.

Does anyone have any idea what a standard exhaust would do to the mapping?

Thanks guys

Ian, give A Plan a try 01635 874646 ask for Darren. Tell him I told you to call him. I called him for a quote on our WRX adding the PPP and it was going to cost us an extra £50. face-icon-small-happy.gif
