zeolite Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Stuck out here on a rig just of Shetland and was wondering how you lot were doing in Aucterarder. Sky news is full of pics of road barriers and policemen. How is it really? And how is Edinburgh with all those crusties rampaging? Sky news hype or real hassle?
p1ggm Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 i was at auchter yesterday....30mph on the A9 atm and 9 mile of 50 mph...police everywhere
st3ph3n Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Caught 10 or 12 police bikers going north on the A80 in formation about half five the night. More police on my journey this morning too, and I'm only getting as close to Auchterarder as just north of Kincardine.
micra_wrc Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 hey zeo, hope things are ok for you out on that rig. I took part in the Make History Poverty march in Edinburgh on Saturday and didnt see one inkling of trouble. It was a good natured, peaceful protest. Reports of 225,000 people there are pretty accurate...... bet you can't imagine that volume of folk in Edn city centre ..... eh? Imy
the squiggle Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 I even believe HISOOB has stashed his symbol of capitalism in a secret location miles away from Auchterarder Batten down the hatches Scotland. Grant
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Want the proper picture? Shops are boarded up, businesss are shut for the week and are loosing out on a full weeks trading. Roads are closed round the town. My garden now has a 15 foot high security fence (homemade ) at the back of it. You cant post a letter Cant go for a walk up the feilds without being watched by the helicopter I have had to shift the Scooby and a customers scooby 15 miles to a safe garage. The neighbour has shifted his to Dundee!! House insurance has been altered to cover any "accidents" that happen to it. There are 6 helicopters, canny remember how many Police horses and 10,000 police men and women in the area. Me and Ally have to move out tomorrow to a friends house so we can make it to Allys mums funeral on wednesday because we were told it might not be possible to move in Auchterarder on Wednesday. The funeral might have problems getting from the church in Bridge of Allan to Falkirk due to G8 protestors and traffic and then we might not manage to get home on Wednesday night if there is trouble up here. Getting the idea now?? And dont even get me started on the poeple that are coming here to cause the trouble!!!
Gumball Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 numpties as i asked someone today, have i missed something or are these jobless rockets ruining the name of a worthwhile campaign to make the world a better place? smashing the place up and becoming nuisances? weirdos
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 All for making the world a better place, but I think we should get our own country sorted out first.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 << All for making the world a better place, but I think we should get our own country sorted out first. >> could'nt agree more......................too many bloody tree huggers about these days shouting their mouths off about countries that don't even concern us
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 ....anyway, we had best put a lid on our opinions guys This isnt the place to discuss them if you know what i mean I will keep you updated on the progeress, or lack of it as soon as I get it!!! Over and out....from your SIDC G8 reporter
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Sorry but i aint putting a lid on my opinions..............biggest thing to hit and affect Scotland with disruptive ar$eholes breaking things and causing trouble!!!!
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 yeh, for sure Andy But Im just saying, we has best keep it sensible so we dont need to get the post moderated too much please.
gary_johnson Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Heard that Ninewells hospital in Dundee has cancelled all operations this week and all the staff are on 24hr standby just in case anything major happens...
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 yep, and the courts are cleared too so they can handle the arrests
the squiggle Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Also heard a wee rumour that all the speed camaras in a 30 mile radius have been switched off. Apparently it was fooking about with the targeting system in the Apache gunships. Grant
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 All the cameras in the area are removed They are empty shells. Might be true for the reasons your saying Grant, but I heard it was so they didnt get vandalised
dougster Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Keep it factual. People have the right to protest. This subject doesn't really belong on a car related forum though. It remains unlocked at present.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Our office ( oil co. ) in Aberdeen has cops on the gates now. We're shutting one gate down which will cause ABSOLUTE travel chaos to Aberdeen commuters We're being encouraged to work from home on Friday and the whole thing is getting on my thrupennies. Saw 6 police vans with dogs in a convoy on the A90.........it's looking like something out of a Will Smith movie Nae impressed ......thouyght i was having a tough time until I read Jamies post - holy sh1t ! Cal
zeolite Posted July 5, 2005 Author Posted July 5, 2005 Guys. I just wanted to find out what it was like at ground zero so to speak. So I am interested how this affects SIDC members who are there. Can we keep the thread to that topic please. If you want to discuss opinions then another thread would be appropriate I think. Thanks to the SIDC on the spot reporter HI SOOB.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 << People have the right to protest. This subject doesn't really belong on a car related forum though. It remains unlocked at present. >> does not belong on a car forum?????...............what about the people that cannot get out to use their SCOOBIES or have to lock them away miles from their homes and all the disruptions to the road links................. so i think it is pertenant on a car forum. too many people sticking their heads in the sand over this one. Apologies Zeolite......................back on topic now
TheGza Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Saw loads of cops on the way home last night - probably the same bunch of 10 odd motorbike riders that St3ph3n saw, and another convoy of 6 vans a little bit after that, not to mention assorted traffic motors. I'm working from home Wednesday - Friday this week to avoid it all.
jamie_wood Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 News flash Cant realy move in the town now. There has been a bomb scare at the Bank Army choppers are in the sky as well as the police ones. The road through the town is now closed and I had to de tour through the back streets to get home. Every car coming into the town is being stopped. There are foregin folk everywhere and the police are pulling foregin plate cars and poeple who are wandering around with back packs.
MY94 Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 FIRSTLY............SORRY DOUGSTER FOR POSTING A VERY STUPID AND INSULTING POST AIMED AT YOU.i AM VERY SORRY AND FEEL STUPID ABOUT THE POST.Please accept my apology and I shall not post anything like that again. However,I posted a similar post about what was going on in Edinburgh and it was deleted.I felt hard done by, as Hi Soob points out, this does affect us. Zeolite also seems to think that this posting has a place here too.(I am not tring to drag anyone into my own situation, just saying) I just feel that consistancy is not a strong point of this forum in terms of moderation.I don't see a difference from my post on this subjct to say ,Jamie's?Is there one? Anyway ,I don't want an argument, and I shall not post my opinions on any threads from here after. Again I'm sorry too Dougster,I was having a crap day and I'm sorry m8,I'm not normally so wound up and spiteful. Sorry! Back to thread,Hi Jamie, best of luck to you and batten down the hatches.Sorry to hear about the hassle this is causing you.I got a call from my sister yeasterday to say they had been invaded by these idiots at work and had to lock their doors on police order. She works at the fringe office!! The protesters tried to capture Edinburgh Castle, quick lesson, taking a castle is quite hard without some massive laders and a battering ram! It seems mostly to be foreingers who blend well with all the genuine tourists,so the police don't seem to know if they are coming or going. Anyway, Sorry, peace, love and smiles. (Ps I though you and Matt might have been at the hot marques last night, now I know why and my condolences to Ally)
