**I remove my statement **

Seek advice from the garage that repaired it.

Best you speak with them and sort it out.

There seems to be a few grey areas here.

If this is a clutch problem, then did you not look at replacing it at the time.

I could go on.........but.

Good luck. Hope you get it resolved without further problems

If you select reverse too quickly the synchro wont mesh properly.

Good technique to avoid crunching is to let the clutch out in neutral before dipping it again to select reverse. Works for me in my old shed.

tried loads of different things. even when i just turn it on and put it in reverse it grinds really badly. going back in tomorrow so was just wanting stuff to tell the garage. oh yeah and since it was in the garage the other day the grinding is a lot worse and its really really hard to get into first

<< Reverse gear doesn't have syncro !! However it shouldn't crunch either.

True but the rest do have synchros and they will still spin if you go from any forward gear into reverse. The idler gear will also spin forward due to the blow by of the other gears spinning like mad.

Grumbler by they sounds of things, and it is hard to dignose wothout seeing the car, it sounds as if your clutch is the problem. The drive plate is not been completly freed when you dip the clutch. Also check your fluid level in the gearbox and the age of the fluid. Maybe give you a pointer in the direction of your problem.

my 95 wrx used to crunch in to reverse a bit, that used a sti clutch, then my first ra crunched BIG TIME if i did not put it in very slowley due to the multiplate clutch i think, but my new cars, ie the ra and the leggy dont do it at all ???????

cheers robin.
