davey l wrx Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 The new idicator bulbs are on order.... It's time to get rid of the orange blobs on the front of the car! Any hints & tips guys and gals, before i just stick a headlight assembly in the oven on gas mark 4 for 15-20 minutes. I'll get some new black mastic to help it all re-seal when i'm putting it all back together.
paul555sti Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Andy was telling me he used a hair dryer rather than the oven. And dont touch the shiney silver bits either.
gus the bus Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Andy was telling me he used a hair dryer rather than the oven. And dont touch the shiney silver bits either. Yup, me too! Oven is a bit scary tbh. Takes a good bit longer with the hair dryer but no chance of melting the lights But deffo have new black mastic to ensure a decent seal
davey l wrx Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 The new bulbs arrived today...... Might get it done in the next few days if the weather holds off, unless i move the wenches car out of the way and gain access to the garage!Just have to move all the crap out of the way so the car will actually get into it but it's an option. Thanks for the hints
BLOB EYE Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 i bought a set of pre-done ones off scabbynet, didnt fancy doing it myself lol
scooby doom Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Mine came with the car done by a braver man than I. Anyhoo, let's know how ya get on Dave and remember to post the obligatory before and after pic's
davey l wrx Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 Will do, probably do enough pics to do a how to guide on it. Hopefully my new camera will arrive tomorrow and the weather will be ok this weekend
davey l wrx Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv155/DaveLisle/h001-1.jpg http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv155/DaveLisle/h011.jpg Well finally got round to doing the job today. Only issue was a minor bit of melting where the light got too close to the oven wall but it'll survive. Only needed about 10 minutes at about 180 degrees and they came apart easily. Definately looks better. Don't know why but i can't get the pics to appear in the thread just the links... Edited August 20, 2011 by davey l wrx
subarucraig Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Looking good mate still cant belive you guys are putting lights in oven tough
davey l wrx Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) I would have used a hairdryer but i haven't needed one of them for about 18 years! Edited August 20, 2011 by davey l wrx
davey l wrx Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Yup..... i tried all the links from Photobucket to insert the pics. I'll sort it out one day. Cheers
scouk Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Lookin good What bulbs are you running on there? They look kinda 'creamy'.. Get a set of decent bright white bulbs, realyl sharpens up the look of the car Also nicer when drivign at night, but downside is you get noticable more glare off road signs and it reflects a brighter light back at you
davey l wrx Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Just the usual Al.... only replaced one main beam when it went. The rest were all in there when i bought the car. They aren't bad to be honest, i was at a weird angle taking the pic and the sun was out! I have been thinking about fitting some brighter ones for the winter. Something else to spend my cash on.
scouk Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 (edited) If you do change.. I can reccomend Philips VisionPlus/BLueVision (which are not really blue, they are white with blue filament, so durign the day when stiched off you can see a blueish colour at certain angles.) Osram Nightbreakers are very decent! Realisticalyl best you can do without switchign to HID's I've got either hte philips or osrams on both my cars and make a noticable difference over standard bulbs in the dark! I wouldn't do standard bulbs again unless I had to.. Admitedly they are nowhere near as cheap as standard bulbs http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/ Edited August 21, 2011 by ScoUK
davey l wrx Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Cheers Al i'll have a look when the nights start to close in again!
gus the bus Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 If you do change.. I can reccomend Philips VisionPlus/BLueVision....... Osram Nightbreakers are very decent! entirely, I have tried quite a few on different cars over the years and the above are definately the best of the aftermarket bulbs for night driving
