thebigfelly Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 (edited) hey folks pesky me again , need some help. bought my 03 WRX STI TYPE UK from evans halshaw down in rotheram, got it transported up to edinburgh , when arrived up here it hadc the ecu light on , guy said this was due to it being empty of petrol on the forecourt before he left , and that if i filled it up it would reset itself , ( which i thought was a load of bull). also the passenger electric window button didnt work but the drivers side did. and there was an 8inch chunk of tyre missing from front pasenger side tyre which i noticed . neway on to the mug part , booked the car in on the 30th of may to evans halshaw down at portobello, at 8am in the morning, received a phonecall at 5pm that night saying the tyre would get replaced, their diagnostic machines dont work on the car so they will have to send it up to alex f noble in penicuik so they can diagnose the ecu problem and that it needed new button for the electric window, fast forward a week to the 7th of may and a ton of evasis phone calls from the evanshalshaw service department saying its booked in to nobles , the switch has been ordered , the switch is in , the tyres being refunded and replaced, to geting nowhere , i get told id receive a phone call on monday the 10th , which i didnt. ( their customer service realy is that bad keep saying they will phone back on certain dates to update me on the progress but never do always me chasing them ) so i phone them , get put through to charlotte the service department manager who tells me yet again the tyre has been refunded/replaced, BUT now the switch for the passenger window is ordered but they are still waiting on it and because they are a ford dealership it takes longer to get subaru parts , where as if it was a ford part they can get it over night, also that they cant put it on the diagnostic machine until they replace the switch , and because they dont know when the switch will arrive so they cant get it booked up at nobles for the diagnostic, - my thinking is that it doesnt take nearly two weeks to order a switch for an electric window unless they are ordering it from japan and getting it delivered by ship. this is the part that makes me think im being taken for mug . because by the time they eventualy get the switch in and installed, they will then have to wait for a place on nobles books to get it booked in , an dthen thats further waiting until it gets the diagnostic and if there is anything wrong then even more waiting to get that fixed, also this charlotte the service manager said that there is no point putting it in for a diagnostic before they fix the electric window switch , because that would show up on the report , and then once they fix the switch they would have to send it away again for another diagnostic because that would interfere with it . is any of this true?? also they are doing it as a warrenty job so they aint making any money out of it because they sold it to me saying there wasnt any problems other than a couple stone chips would love to have something to go back to them with and say they are talking a load of bull .. stevie 4 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 (edited) if the seller shall fail to deliver the goods within 21 days of the estimated date of delivery stated in this contract th purchaser may by notice in writing to the seller requier delivery of the goods within 7 days of reciept of such notice. if the goods shall not be delivered to the purchaser within the said 7 days the contract shall be cancelled. i was in evenshalshaw at the weekend looking at cars and was very unempressed with the attitude of the sales people and actually just walked out on a sales woman for blatently lying to me just reading the back of a car receipt i have to hand Edited May 12, 2010 by stevie 4
gordi82 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Hi what I would do is speak directly to Nobles and ask if parts have been ordered and when your car is it booked into the workshop. Subaru parts also come over night unless its on back order but a part like that should be in stock. To put it on thier diagnostic machine only takes minutes as for it cant go on until the switch is replaced is a load of bull. I used to work for John Weirs so know what i'm talking about don't let them take the p**s. Nobles are very good and will be honest with you. Good luck Gordon
C_WRX Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Just a thought on the switch. Have you called Nobles and asked them how much the switch costs and how long it would take for them to get it in stock ? I doubt EH are ordering through Nobles but at least that way you can go armed with the info that it only takes ?? days to get it from the local Subaru dealership at ££ cost so add on a day for admin and a day for shipping you'd expect it by a certain date. May also be a doddle to fit the switch and it is something Nobles could do in seconds while in for the diagnostics. If you still get nowhere then you can start with the cancel the order threats. Nice n loud, but not shouting, in the middle of the showroom !!
thebigfelly Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 this is exactly how i feel - cheers for the responses lads
colin_ross Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Charlotte is trying it on. The check engine light is saying the car is not happy with one of the inputs, probably a sensor. Tell EH that driving the car in it's current state could be doing damage (true) and that you'll need a car off of them until it's been solved as you can't use yours. They have no diagnostic basis to say this is not the case. Watch as it's fixed overnight.
gus the bus Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I would also have a chat with the Scottish Motor Trade Association in Edinburgh number available at http://www.smta.co.uk/ and tell them of your predicament. It has made a huge difference to how things have progressed in the past when friends have had issues with garages

badbaz Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Charlotte is spinning a web of deceit! Have you paid for the car, is it yours? As above, window switch next day without a problem, phone any Scoob dealer and ask to order one to check. Diagnostics have sweet f all to do with window switches. Car could have been to Nobles, sorted and returned to you minus switch repair and the switch could be fitted at anytime even if EH had to get one of their lying tw@ts to swim to Japan for one.

Seriously though, I do hope that they get it sorted sharpish, as I do think that they are trying to take you for a fool... and that's not on... I think that Gus might be on to something there though...
