StrikE Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Looking for a whoosh valve for my hatch prior to remap, looking for opinions on what is best & type. So asking the resident experts Forge Blitz HKS Turbo smart What you reckon.
scooby222 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 got a turbosmart on mine and seems to work fine, not too noisy not too quiet of course for a hatch you should really cram a donkey in there with its nads connected so that brays every time you change gear

So asking the resident experts Forge Blitz HKS Turbo smart What you reckon. Not sure it's a good idea from past reading and forum experience as it can cause a range of problems such as bore wash etc and other things I don't understand. I think also people get fed up with the sound of a bus stopping pretty quickly...I got a decent amount of extra noise from upgrading my recirc to a Forge recirc on my classic. I am sure someone will come along shortly and explain... B. Edited February 23, 2010 by WRXMANIA
scouk Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I've heard of duck calls being strapped to BOV's before, but never a set of donkeys nads! I dare to be different and have a GFB Stealth FX on mine... Fully adjustable from 100% recirculating to 100% vent Usually have it one step above full Recirc.. Also spring load is adjustable.. But then I like things I can fiddle with Don't know anyone else who has one.. HKS's are as common as SIDC moderators these days
StrikE Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Maybe i should ask the kids at the nursery when i drop the wain off tomorrow!! got a turbosmart on mine and seems to work fine, not too noisy not too quietof course for a hatch you should really cram a donkey in there with its nads connected so that brays every time you change gear Look Hawaii 5-0 i have phoned the RSPCA on you Not sure it's a good idea from past reading and forum experience as it can cause a range of problems such as bore wash etc and other things I don't understand. StrikE Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Anyone else with a serious answer................... must be the cold water!
colin_ross Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 Why do you want one? The noise or "performance"?
StrikE Posted February 23, 2010 Author Posted February 23, 2010 Why do you want one? The noise or "performance"? Just the whoosh factor, my daughter [7 yr old] complained my car didn't sound as nice as my old black car lol Seriously does dumping the boost between gear changes not prevent damage to the turbo on high boost pressure? I only look stupid because i don't know the answer
colin_ross Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 You already have a dump valve that does that but it feeds it back into the intake system. If you vent it to atmosphere the ecu wil not be able to meter the intake correctly and will supply the fuel it thinks the car needs i.e. too much. It's not a big deal but you are making a backwards step to give you the noise. If you like it I'd say go for it.
StrikE Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Thank Colin, i will leave as is at the moment, i can make the whoosh sound myself if needed
colin_ross Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 No problem Del. Don't let me put you of it. If you like the way it makes the car sound, and a subaru is all about the sound it makes, then get one. Also, the girlies luv it. The over fuelling isn't huge and as long as you change the oil regularly it shouldn't cause a problem.
stum450n Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Thank Colin, i will leave as is at the moment, i can make the whoosh sound myself if needed Oh, do as the scrotes around our way do and get one of these beauties!!!! Pure quality
boab type ra Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Was up at the open day at awd in perth and they where fitting a turbosmart supersonic to a brand new hatch and it sounded really good. got the same for the wr1 sounded the same. was the same kit as the new age because the kit that came from turbosmart for the hatch didn`t fit.
stuarted Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 not sure if the hatch has a resonator in the inner wing, only know classics. If it does whip it out and you'll hear the factory recirc working
phil1967 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 why dont you give your daughter away to cathy and she can listen to your old car all day long, sorted no dump valve and one less drain on your resourses.simples.
gbsti Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi del I've had a Forge dump valve before and found it quite quiet.... So this time I bought a HKS and it's awsome... But remember the valve volume is dependant on the amount of air being dumped so on a standard car it maybe ok, but on a remapped car it will be alot louder Graeme
badbaz Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Do it. Do it. Do it. You're getting it mapped anyway. You can afford the loss of Vpower!

I'd go with this option Del btw, wouldnt the new exhaust make the car sound better?
StrikE Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 btw, wouldnt the new exhaust make the car sound better? Might do Imy, It's only going to have 2 silencers .... one on each side i will wait till it's fitted why dont you give your daughter away to cathy and she can listen to your old car all day long, sorted no dump valve and one less drain on your resourses.simples. Jesus Phil lmao that is just so wrong in so many ways. I am actually lost for words Thanks man had a shunt of a day & that made me smile Hi delI've had a Forge dump valve before and found it quite quiet.... So this time I bought a HKS and it's awsome...
