Thanks Steven Be very careful, get to know what types of paintwork your car has and it MUST be incredibly thoroughly foamed, washed, paint cleansed etc before touching it with a machine. It's a job for an expert if you don't know I reckon. Check out info on machining techniques etc on Detailing World www.detailingworld.co.uk I'd get a pro to show you how to use a machine polisher (and how to use the type you have), what compounds to use, what pads etc. I have never machine polished a car and unless I knew what I was doing wouldn't touch it without a paint depth gauge etc. The cleaning and prep of the car prior to machining is the big thing though. Brian
notsosmall Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 As said above do to Detailing world All the information you could ever need is there That's where i learned most of what i know about detailing and machine polishing I also attended a few training days run by Dave KG, well worth doing
stev555 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 hi it was that site what got me in 2 detailing, lol where do u do the training days is there any comeing up, cheers steven.
Ovv Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Have a look at the Polished Bliss website, Rich sometimes does days where you can go along and try your hand using a machine polisher. Ive only ever gone as far claying my Golf, and then repolishing by hand - Worth the effort but still no where as good as doing it with a machine. Chris.

StrikE Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 typed out a long answer then hit the stupid red x looky here m8 machine
C_WRX Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 What polishing machine did you get (please don't say Halfords!). Before you move on to your own car get a scrap panel for practice. The training days mentioned may also be of interest if you wanted to speed up the learning. Very possible to do just take your time, and would say if you are going to get right in to it the cost will mount up !
stev555 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 hi got it on ebay item 120531022221 never used it yet not sure if its any good
wrxmania Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 hi got it on ebay item 120531022221 never used it yet not sure if its any good Looks alright but you'll likely want to fling out all the pads and "the secrets of Carnuaba Wax" or reserve them for your boat

jamesm Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 hi got it on ebay item 120531022221 never used it yet not sure if its any good That does look like a rotary rather than a random orbital so like StrikE says, you will need extreme caution so as not to burn the paint clean off the panels. Does seem a very cheap package so no idea what kind of pads etc it is coming with. I bought myself a Megs G220 a couple of years back from Polished Bliss. I was a complete novice but decided to use the Pug 106 runaround I had at the time for practice. The results were amazing. Only when I was happy and got the feel of the machine did I tackle the Subaru. Best heading over to DW or drop an Email to someone like Polished Bliss for advice on pads and compounds etc. PBs website has a good step by step guide too.

The SIDC version is more user friendly, this is my longest write up to date i think 168 photos

icedog13 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Paul did my STi - blinding job! Paul will help you out with anything you need and takes time out to explain stuff as well. To be trusted with your scoob!
stubaroo Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I have been in to have a chat with Paul recently and he certainly knows his stuff. His facility is spotless and he has all the equipment to carry out a proffesional detail to the highest standard. He can tailor a detail to your budget or specific requirements. He has given me a most competitive quote for a detail on my car and I will be arranging to get the work carried out just shortly. Top man. Hopefully the bloody roads will clear up a bit over the next few weeks as they are an absolute disgrace right now! Don't know what that crap was that the council was dumping when they ran out of rock salt during the heavy snow.
