martin_allen
No idea but i think it looks electrical. The scorch/melting bonnet suggests it was concentrated forward of the engine. Parked in work garage, next thing (well 10 mins later) fire alarm, smoke and merry blaze on the go 5t. Link to comment

scouk
Yeow! that looks pretty nasty! Well done for havign smoke alarms in the vicinity! COudl have been a whole lot worse! Interested to know if you discover the cause of this.. Looks pretty localised right at the front.. Perhaps hot exhaust ignighting the untertray or something, and heat/flames wrapping over the front? I don't think there's anything electrical at the front/middle.. Hope the insurance is kind... Link to comment
wrxmania
Sad sight. Hope it works out well for you in the end. Brian. Link to comment

martin_allen
Update - Tow truck just arrived, bloke re-attached the battery and she fired up straightaway, still sounds lovely. He did say the throttle was 'a bit stiff' though. Seems such a shame seeing it drag the bits of bumper over the road and away. Might be the last time she runs Can't see bonnet, bumper, lights and possible wiring loom coming to less than 3k so has to be written off. 5t. Link to comment
dipsy
Thats not good to see .Hope insurance pays out with no hassle Link to comment

scouk
Can't see bonnet, bumper, lights and possible wiring loom coming to less than 3k so has to be written off. That's a bloody shame... I'm sure those parts could be sourced for less than half that.. But then cost of spraying (if necessary) and cost of getting a garage to install it all would chuck costs up.. Depends on the extent of the damage.. The front members and stuff could well be 'softened' with the extreme heat, which could be seen as comprimising safety Link to comment
scoobyseller555
hope you get sorted quickly, did you take RTI Gap insurance when you bought the car??? Gav Link to comment
thefastone
Gutted for you mate! I hope that it can be fixed! but then, would you want it to be fixed? sometimes its just as well to start a fresh... Link to comment
martin_allen
hope you get sorted quickly, did you take RTI Gap insurance when you bought the car???Gav No... but i've had the car now for just over 3 years on 3.5 year finance. Also I paid 5k cash and took 6 on finance so as not to wipe out all the savings (needed for house purchase) because of that, I am hoping the payout will cover the finance ok... the excess is £300 I'm saying 6k for a 03 wagon, that sound about right to you Gav? ScoUK cheers dude, i know what you mean. The cross member above the light does look a bit funny but a lot of the safety block material is actually still attacehd to the car, just very crispy! It looks charred but not as though the member has warped. Still can't see it coming back though, she's got nearly 90k on the clock so I can't see it being an economical repair. Stonking engine in it though and you'd never know the miles on it without checking the odo Hope to hear in next couple of days... 5t. Link to comment
scooby222
gutted for you mate but at least no one was hurt or anything else damaged. hope you get a good result from the insurance company, haggle hard with them!! Link to comment
jazzalbart
Insurance companies seem to pick and choose which statistics they want to use to justify price hikes. The majority of insurers wont change cost of premium for just 3 points. Some do though. Do make sure that you notify them straight away though. Link to comment
