Scottynic Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 we just got the renewal for our STI yesterday. The car was stolen in Dundee in August but was found close by with no damage but there is a key missing. Tried to make a claim but they messed around for 4 months so told them to ram it. So now even tho the claim was not paid we have lost half of our no claims and our policy is going up from approx 500 to £2300!!!! We used A-Plan as a broker last year and they didnt even help out with our claim so we wont be using them again. Oh and avoid Groupama coplete shower of .........

Scotty i am insured with A-plan first time i have been with them and Groupama insurance. They are hopless with sending out with the write information .I told them i bought the 05 Jdm Sti back in november 05. Just because they asked me a rough value in price .The paper work say's i purchased the car the end of last year useless lot .They don't listen on the phone and don't like it when you get p@@d off
Scottynic Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I will never use A-plan again and definately not Groupama. Used A-plan when I first got an Elise, gave me a great price the first year then tried to shaft me the second. The actually told me there was no way I would get a cheaper quote than what I got from them. I ended up paying over 500 quid less! I really hope you never have to claim anything from them as you will never see any money. Ours was an unusual case shall we say without going into it too much but even in our circustances their attitude was extremely unacceptable!

micra_wrc Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Elephant definitley did (back in late 2008) as my type ra was insured through them. They were excellent too, never had a single problem with them. Even when it got written off. it seems they've changed since you used them. Called to check before I did their online quote thing to ask if they covered modified Japanese imports... guy on the phone goes "what modifications have you got" and didnt make any noises when I said exhaust or alloys but seemed to flinch when I mentioned suspension and immediately went "we dont cover that" my renewal with A-Plan came in £20 cheaper than last year but an online quote from Greenlight came in £300 more

Steve Edited to say did this thro Comparethe market.com Elephant, Bell and Admiral are all the same company. I am with Admiral for the Scooby and Bell for the Corolla. The Mrs insures her Swift through Diamond, who are also part of Admiral! Using Compare the Meerkat and the like is all very well, but the prices you get will have no benefits and huge excesses. Also many companies won't quote on those sites when you mention mods, no matter how simple, yet are fine when you phone them direct. Got that issue with the Mrs' Swift which has non standard alloys and front fogs! I would take anything the comparison websites say with a big pinch of salt.
Sleiper Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You should think yourselves lucky our's is just under £1600 for our policy, i'm 27 with 6 yrs ncb was about 700 just for me but leslie is only 22 and been driving 3 yrs with 2 yrs bonus!! robbing f**ks!
peacher Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I would recommend Admiral, just got my renewal through for my multi car policy and it is £592 (Subaru Impreza WRX insured for 5000 miles P/A and VW Jetta TDI Sport for 15000 miles). Considering I was paying £500 for the Subaru alone with Direct Line just over a year ago that seems pretty good. Only problem is that they don't insure remapped cars which is something that I was planning to do....

How would they ever know your car has been remapped? The less you tell them the better!
scoob fae ork Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Mark's and spencer for me £540 for the blob sti with protected no claims and ALL mod's nominated. they were £380 cheeper than my renual from Adrian Flux
Scooby Wagon Addict Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 How many of everyone on here actually declare all their mods? The extent of peoples' mods on their cars ( and on the list of mods in 2010 thread ) it makes me wonder. Only 4 people would insure me cos I declared mine ..petty stuff like lower grill, Sti corners and exhaust! Have spoken to Keith Michaels and it looks hopefull ..to phone back closer to renewal time

Scooby Wagon Addict Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I just want to apologise for my rant earlier incase anyone thought I was having a go at them and clarify what I meant... bad day lol! If everyone here declares their mods which I kno they will what extent do they go into and who do they use? And would u declare everything like if it had different wheels or Prodrive springs etc? ie with only 4 companies willing to insure me with my mods that I wouldnt even call mods ,the genius people in here that change injectors, turbos, diffs, remaps etc, who do they use ? When u phone these insurance companies the people u speak to normally dont have a clue, or when they here it's modded they point blank say they dont insured modified vehicles. Would love to do lots of stuff to my car just terrifed how u would go about insuring it. Thanks, Steve
micra_wrc Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 IMO fully declaring mods comes with the territory of owning these cars, its not worth the risk I've found that the 'high street' insurers don't touch modified cars, let alone imports in my case. you'll need to contact specialist companies, eg Greenlight, A-Plan, Keith Michaels to name a few. They'll come up if you Google them

A guy called Gary Moulson works for them and is also a modified impreza owner himself so he understands what mods are. I gave him a list of my mods and an estimated bhp figure. Your right there is so sketchy areas like my wheels. P1 wheels which are from an impreza but not an RB5 also made by Oz who made the original wheels for the RB5 but obviously a different model. I just delared them just incase as it is better than finding out the hard way. A question now who insures cars with roll cages?
Joe G Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I got my renewal through a few days ago. Im 26 with 9years no claims. With elephant for the past 6 years and they have always been the cheapest i could find. Insurance last year was £635 for the spec c but this year with no changes to the policy, claims or convictions they have increased to £795??? I called them up and they said it was to do with the fact that the postecode i say at (isle of bute) The traffic density has increased which means there is more chance of you having an accident. I nearly pissed myself laughing. Bigges load of bull i have ever heard. They wont budge on the price either. Gonna give keith michaels and A-plan a shout on monday!
