martin_allen
got a rock thrown up at the window today and big (well 2p size) crack in the windscreen. Before i call autoglass for a new one (on the insurance) has anybody had any dealings with them locally? Anything to watch out for? Also, anyone better? 5t Link to comment
Richie Cross
I've used them for a crack in my wife's car and it was fine. Drove to one of their centres and waited until they had replaced the glass. Didn't take too long either. Link to comment

Got the back window of my blobeye replaced when I has a wee accident with the WRC spoiler - no probs at all with them. Cheers Gary Link to comment
martin_allen
thanks chaps. I was thinking franchise... only as good as the local operator. It might need to be done in the evening so i don't want someone doing damage i can't see especially if they have to replace the screen 5t. Edited September 30, 2009 by fivetide Link to comment
oobster
I used the one in the Gyle recently and they were fine. Checked the car over with me beforehand, used seat covers and paper floor mats to avoid getting anything dirty and returned the car to me approx. 1.5hrs later in the same condition I gave it to them (apart from the cracked windscreen obviously!) Mike M
I've used Autoglass in Stirling a couple of times, Paul and Kirk have both been fitting windscreens for 10 years plus, both good guys to deal with. regards Mike Link to comment

We use a guy call Michael Cartright (Global glass) Mobile person to fix it great job with no insurnce think it was around £35 07779 209217 Give him a call say Gordon From John Weirs told you Gordon Edited September 30, 2009 by gordi82 Link to comment
martin_allen
Fantastic chaps thanks. Last time i had to get a screen was on my XR3i years and years ago. They asked if it was insurance or not (wasn't autoglass) and because it wasn't an insurance job it was £200. Apparently the cost to the insurance would have been £350 so it is goos scam. Seem to have a double crack as i hoped it could be repaired but their is a thick chip then just a few mil below a longer crack that is deffo bigger than a 2p so i think it is a new window. Luckily i do have cover so £60 excess but still don't want a leaky window or scratches (more of) putting all over the car by some ham fisted nugget. 5t. Link to comment
dark
Two points to check before fitment: 1) Make sure they use the right colour & tint (it's not always obvious!) 2) Make sure they use a new rubber seal. It's not uncommon for them to turn-up with the wrong one and then reuse the old one which is a sure path to leaks in the future. Cheers, Mark Link to comment

Cheers, Mark AND... if you've a VIN plate in the windscreen, make sure they don't cover it up! They did with mine and I noticed just as they where leaving... the muppet managed to crack the screen taking it out to remove the sealant over the plate! The windscreen he cracked was put in because he cracked the first one doing the repair to a chip which he guaranteed would be repairable! I ended up getting through three windscreens in 5 days! That was in Staffordshire though but it's definitely something to watch out for. Link to comment
gordi82
also a silly point. When they take out the old window make sure they dont run a blade along the top it can crack the paint and can cause above the window to rust in a few years (not tidy) Link to comment
