Thanks for the comments guys, I'm really pleased overall (especially as the previous owner paid £40k for it 18 months ago and I got it for half that!!) It's completely different to drive than the scoob as it delivers the power smoothly, rather than in an animal style!! Although the paddleshifters are great fun!! Wulsey, that was a very tidy motor you had, I can see the pull back to scoobs though as Craig popped round the other week and just hearing that burble made me jealous!! Ciaran, no worries re the plates as I'm an old dude with grey hair and don't seem to get the attention I used to, but do get your point mate!! Colin (C WRX), the Audi is actually blue, it deep sea blue pearl and in the sunlight it's more like a medium blue, but when there's no bright sun (nearly all the time) it's more like midnight blue, I think 2 black cars would kill me!!! Neil, I looked at the Volvo as well, but the Audi just pipped it!! Colin (playsatan), not worked on the VW since Brooke was born in April, but I'be been stockpiling parts, so hopefully looking to start sneaking out in the New Year. Well, after a lot of deliberation, and the addition of 1 beautiful wee girl, I've had to sell my Scooby after 5 years of ownership. The only good point is that it's gone to a good home with Craig (Seafar 99). Here is my old baby in all her glory - I do 500 miles a week (minimum) so decided I needed economy, performance, an estate and wanted to keep 4wd. Initially I looked at the Legacy, but it was either power or economy, not both and I didn't want to look at Mitsubishi, so that left me one option - Audi. Initially I looked at the RS4, but the fuelling would've killed me, then I looked at brand new, but at £40k, I thought it was well overinflated. I decided to go for the 3.0 TDI Quattro, as that has a mixture of power/economy and happily is a nice looking motor. The one thing I didn't realise when looking at Audi's is that it's all about the accessories. (When I bought the wife's STI hatch I din't know it had cruise control, 6 CD autochanger and MP3 connection, I was looking at the engine/brakes/suspension). So with this in mind I managed to pick up a 57 plate (reg'd 10 days before the 08 plates came out!!) A4 3.0TDI quattro S line avant, what a mouthfull!! The spec was very tidy - Lowered 20mm 18's Adaptive Bi Zenon headlights Bodykit Front and Rear parking sensors Interior light pack Rain sensors Black/Silver leather, both heated and electric ( a £3000 option) Auto gearbox with tiptronic paddleshift S4 big brake kit BOSE SOUND SYSTEM Cruise Control DVD Sat/Nav Bluetooth phone prep Privacy Glass There's a few more, but there's so much stuff I can't even remember it all!! The seller admitted when I came to see her he had just washed her (for the second time since he bought her) Since I got her 4 weeks ago, I've done a wee bit of modding - RS4 Grill RS4 rear anti roll bar Lowered 55mm all round ABT pedals 19 inch wheels I imported for California I think for an Audi, it looks not too bad - Happily though, if I'm coming out to a meet I can always bring the wife's car- Cheers Mike

We're just having a claim on the wife's 08 STI with A plan (through groupama) need to change all locks and keys (wife's keys were stolen), superb service, couldn't have been better.

Yeah, there's quite a few sets on the M6 just now in the North of England, really spoils the whole driving experience. Have never met anyone who got 3 points yet though, I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

I was a bit devious when I went to see the car as I noticed on one of the docs that the car orginally came from Stafford Audi. So after leaving a deposit on the car, I contacted the dealer and got the salesman who sold the car, he kindly looked out the records and gave me the exact specs of the car which matched what I knew, he confirmed the original reg, chassis no and even told me what the buyer looked like, so I know it's the same guy (not that I'm anal about details or anything!!). I've been to his home, seen the V5 with the private plate, the original bill of sale and even been to one of his wife's shops!! So I think he is who he says he is, he even has his own business and his home is on the website!! I've spoken to a couple of guys in the trade and they've said I could get a solicitor to make up a Bill of Sale which he could sign and that would cover me legally until the V5 turns up and he signs it and sends it onto me. The only risk is that he doesn't sign the V5, but knowing where he lives and works, I don't think it 's overly likely (fingers crossed). If he doesn't agree to sign the bill of sale, I'll wait until the V5 shows up. The car in question was a lot of work to find. I needed an estate, economical, so diesel, but relatively powerful with 4wd. So, I have bought an Audi A4 3.0 tdi Quattro Avant. It's a 57 plate (registered 2 weeks before 08 plates came out). It;s 233bhp, 335 lb ft of torque, but after a remap, it'll be 280bhp and 450 lb ft of torque, so no slouch. I didn't realise that when buying an Audi it's all about the gadgets and this one has everything that Audi does, making it very special and rare, so worth pursuing. The owner isn't really into motors, so I've already put 2 full days aside for the detail, I'll update with photos as and when!!! Regards Mike

Thanks for the reply Colin. He's already sent the V5 to DVLA to get a replacement with the original plate, and DVLA are quoting 4-6 weeks, but they have sent him the new tax disc and confirmation he can put the old reg back on the car. I did see the V5 at the time (with the private no on it), but never thought to get a copy. I thought the same thing, if you're selling a car why not remove the plates beforehand, but I suppose, not everyone thinks like us. I just think there must be a way to sort things without waiting another 6 weeks as I've already waited 4!! Regards Mike

Just wanted to get a bit of advice from anyone that knows the DVLA system. I'm buying a new car (well new to me) from a private seller and before he sells me the car he wants to remove his private plate. I know nothing about private plates and am looking for a bit of advice. When he applies to remove the plate he says he gets a new tax disc with the original registration and a letter allowing the private plate to be removed and he can then put the original plates back on and sell me the car. However, when I look at the DVLA website it says it takes 4-6 weeks to get a V5 with the original registration back on it. A friend mentioned about getting a green slip from the seller?? and then I complete a V62 form and the V5 comes back in my name. Is this the case as I don't really want to part with a wad of cash and then can't get a V5 or worse, he then doesn't sign the new docs over!! Sorry it's a bit long winded, but I just wanted to get the facts straight.. Cheers for the help MIke

I've used Autoglass in Stirling a couple of times, Paul and Kirk have both been fitting windscreens for 10 years plus, both good guys to deal with. regards Mike

I've bought my last 3 cars from them and overall they're ok. You have to push hard for any form of discount and whenever negotiating a trade in it's also hard work. But tbh overall I would say they're the best Subaru dealer I've dealt with Mike

After trying for 8 1/2 years we finally got pregnant in August last year and at 11.30 last night, my beautiful daughter Brooke was born (8lbs 1oz). Bit stressed at the end of a 36 hour labour when they decided to do an emergency forceps delivery, but happily all went well for both baby and mum. Got the recaro baby seat strapped in the back, ready for action, but from what I am hearing won't make it to many meets and "my life is over", we'll see!!
