Hope the link works. One of the lads at my work has his heart set on a P1. He's seen this car in Elgin and been to view it. It looks quite tidy, but he's concerned (And rightly so) that there is no Ident Plate for which No of p1 it is.

Just wary that it could be a Type R, tarted up to look like a P1.

I've told him to post on P1OC, which I think he has done, but i said i'd ask for him on here as well.

The service book is full of Brian Downie stamps, so could well be an Aberdeen/shire car.

May be worth a call to Brian Downie and ask him about it?

Had a look at this one myself and couldn't see an I.D plate and also asked the garage owner if the engine had been rebuilt?

Answer; Not got a clue mate ,why would it need the engine rebuilt?

Left the showroom shortly after that....

Doesnt sound like this garage has much experience of Imprezas, the guy from my work got exactly the same info (Or lack of it)

The one on here would be much better. The p1 your mate looked at has quite a few scratches/chips on it and under the bonnet isn't the cleanest either.Alot better P1 's for sale at the moment than this one -but this is only my opinion, hope he finds a decent one.

If you are talking about the "plate" on the coin tray, im not entirely sure each build was given one. Was it not more of an after market add on by the P1OC? I could be wrong though, it has been known...

I'd rather a Type R - Rich's one!

Think there was a topic on this in the general section if memory serves correctly.

Yep the plate was an aftermarket thing, cos mine doesn't have it. In the engine bay there will be a plate saying ***/1000 (*** being the build number obv).

If its pretty much standard then chances are its not been ragged too much. I found when I was looking for one a lot of the ones with engine rebuilds had fancy turbos, exhausts uprated this that and the next thing. Also got a pretty low mileage. Same as mine had actually so the guys that have had it have prob just used it as a weekend toy. If its got a full service history and lots of receipts then I'd def go and have a look at it.

Hope that helps

The P1's didn't come with a number plaque under the ash tray these where added later by owners. Group buys where run on P1OC. the best way is to check if the chassis plate on the N/S suspension if it has been stamped with the cars number from prodrive. Not all P1's run the engine at 50k there is plenty with over 100k and still no noise never mind engine damage. Mine has 52k and is quiter than most new ones. But the best advice is if in doubt walk away there are plenty of good P1's forsale with the documentation to back them up. Plus 10k is alot for them these days. I couldn't get £7500 for mine, 52k 2 owners full subaru history.

Thanks for all thye replies guys. Will let you know if he has any luck!

My brother in law just traded his evo6 GSR for one, 68k and had on it's 3rd engine! Just been run in and needs a set up, much better car then the mitsi! His doesn't have plate inside but has a plate under the bonnet on the inner wing with the build number on it.

Hi m8

Dont listen to the twaddle that the P1's engine goes at 50k, full of pish, yeah some cars engines have let go and you will probably find that its down to modding and not getting the right parts or the way the car is looked after and used.

But there is a stigma about P1s and there engines, its only due to the fact that the P1 is a specific car, i bet if you looked into it you would find a lot of my2000 classics with the same issues.

But heay mine has now done 56k on original engine and still going strong.

The one on here is nice and its had the 2.5 litre convertion so big bonus.

The plaque should be on the passenger suspension strut. It will just have 4 digits on it to say what the build number is.
