RS Grant Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Browneye? IIRC its the ECU map which is the problem on the Browneye, goes lean up top, which is why there have been so many failures after such small mileages. Cheers, Grant

Have checked it out with the local 'stealer and booked in for a free remap. "Preventive measures" dontcha-know so they said. As such, took the old girl out for a quick thrash after reading up. Pulls smooth from standing start to red-line in all 3 SI-Drive modes, no judder, flat spots, funny noises or obvious problems and certainly no obvious loss of boost. Problem seems to apply to a particular batch of cars and most have gone around the 4-8k mark. Could have done without the bad press like... ur.a.bus said: lol i still think it should be a mazd-eye *chuckle* Aye, but in the same way as a classic (or indeed older Legacy) looks like a 90s "Teye-ota" Corolla... but then y'all'll swear blind otherwise! l137sws Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Engine issue was sorted with a patch to the ECU. Dealer should have contacted you - mine did?

Nope... had to do me own leg work! Another black mark against Subaru, I feel... But speaking of faults, let-downs, bad press, divided opinion, credit crunch, WRC pull-outs... The End of Subaru? ... or the hope of better times to come (when I get round to that new 'zorst!) ... How about... DARK AGE ? Edited June 17, 2009 by BalliSTIc
big j Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 There is always "The Squint Eye" If you squint your eyes at it, It almost looks OK ) J
JSFB Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Hi Glyn You should have a look at http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-general/ seach for blown engines you will get a bit of a shock. My car went back to the dealer today on a flatbed so not a good advert for subaru the guys across the road from my work at the mitsubishi rallysport dealer where pissing themselves. Hope your lucky and dont end up with the same problems
BalliSTIc Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 jsfb said: Hope your lucky and dont end up with the same problems Me too mate. How many miles had you done?
JSFB Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Just over 10,000. The only other problem i have had was with the tracker, it chucked it after 7,000. The car has been phenomenal it is my third STI and definitely the best in terms of performance and economy. Had been recommending it to anybody that would listen before I started having problems with it, now gone right off it worrying if the engine is ok and how long it will last when it does get fixed.

Not had tracker probs - not heard of it being widespread either.... alarm sometimes goes off overnight if it's been a hot day and the temp really drops. Probably just humidity, but then that's probably true of most alarms. Did of course check there wasn't some tampering TWOCer in the bushes before making this assumption *chuckle* Your engine should be fine - it seems very much an ecu problem, rather than the hardware 'cos the Prodrive ecu-kitted 330S seems unaffected - seems to be det in one of the cylinders cracking the piston rings with the result being... well... sadly, you know the rest only too well mate! Gutted for you. It only seems to affect cetrain batches of STI though - lots Stateside. Don't be put off. Saw another Dark Age (I'm gonna use that even if no-one else does... I like it! Has a certain tragic glory to it!) STI this morning... I think we look good out on the road! Keep us posted as to how you get on. Glyn

cusco kid Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) how many of you guys out there that SLAG the new hatch have driven one, and really given the car some stick .the new hatch will out run any old hawkeye sti by a mile .the punch through the lower gears is brill .its comfortable to drive ,its great to be able to see out the rear window,no spoiler in the way .having 3 maps to drive the car in makes the fuel cons good and cruise control works great on long journeys .having had all the scoobies i think this cars a winner ,ok its got all the handling problems that all the cars suffered thats why we modify them ,so lay off them and give them a chance ,cause you will most likley buy one eventually cheers geo Edited June 18, 2009 by cusco kid

sti_steve Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I've only drove the WRX version. It is a lovely car but not how a Impreza should look IMO. Albeit the 330 S is a very good allrounder. Geo - I would have your car anyday, it looks stunning in white will all the extras you've added

bobbyc Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Must say that I was impressed with the performance of the new red WRX that was on the lanarkshire run last night, not too taken with the looks but Georges does look the biz in white with the tweaks & Ken bloc's is awsome

Casper Spec D Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Isn't this just not the end old arguement that apears between all the ages of subaru, classics don't like newage and vice versa the new one is different because for years everyone seen the impreza as a saloon, well the market plan has changed for subaru so hence the shape we have now. It's like anything it's progression, Oh and the engine in the new one is different from the hawkeye as it doesn't have froged internals but cast pistons of a higher grade than the wrx model thats also why they are giving more bother along with the problems on the map on the ECU so it won't take the punishment the same well So i have heard, But setting that aside I would have one anyday.
