fai17 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Here come more pics from the work at Meercat today. Its off with the single scroll sump as the pipe work for the headers are going to be longer and unbalanced between the left hand and right hand exhaust ports so its a swap for the twin scroll sump that i want to use for the twin scroll turbo. Its going to be an equal lenght header and it will not sound like a normal scooby anymore. Its on with a twin scroll sump and look how the pipe work runs as per factory set up.The first header pipe shown below is the longest pipe run and is approx 750ml.So with a maximum volume of 4 x 750ml = 3000ml = 3 litres , there has been alot of volume saved. On my previous set up my old headers was approx 5.2 litres.Surely this saving would mean there is less pipe work to be filled by the exhaust gas and should make better use of the strong exhaust pulse and should there for decrease spool up time and hopefully make full power from this set up. Wullie at Meercat has also fabricated 2 funnels for the twin scroll turbo flange and would hope to make better flow from the headers going into the turbo.Currently the 2 funnels are slightly different shape/size but these will be rectified prior to completion.

dipsy Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 That looks a Job and half making that manifold up .So thats what a equal length sump looks like .So know what my sump looks like know .Peter you get used to burbless noise

murtayamartin Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 mine is being sent up on monday from alan, how many miles running in are you planning martin and how are you going about it?? how much does alan recommend? alan says 500mile run in on mineral oil then oil and filter change then 500miles then oil and filter change again then remap then drive martin
RA Dunk Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 alan says 500mile run in on mineral oil then oil and filter change then 500miles then oil and filter change again then remap then drive martin your going to give it 1000 miles on a dyno? did he mention what sort of running it in needs like keep it below a certain RPM for x number of miles etc?

thewelsho Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Thanks Chris Jeez Peter! Do you know what your doing with all those bendy custom-made bits of pipe! Hope you get it on the road soon
fai17 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Jeez Peter! Do you know what your doing with all those bendy custom-made bits of pipe! Hope you get it on the road soon I haven't got an clue
fai17 Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Ok folks alot of progress has happened over the last few days. The headers are all complete apart from the fitment of the 38mm V Band Tial wastegates. The wastegate entry pipe has been cut back to as short as possible to reduce the amount/volume in the headers prior to entry of turbo.Hopefully all these reduction will decrease spool up time. Next was the to try the headers on to the block and start fabricating the down pipe to suit. Pics of Meercat's hand welding....brilliant finish and near fish scale welds done by robots. Now on to the box for the side/front exit exhaust.I'm going for a side exit as i wanting to get rid of the exhast gas as quick as possible to maximise power and power band.It has been known that race cars have changed from the normal system and backbox to a side or front exit exhaust and gaining as much as 50bhp or so i've been told!Forgot to say that the box is re-packable...you'll see the bolts on the rear of the box. And now for trial fitment of the bumper in place with the side/front box. Looking good so far...i like it. Now for the tail tip. This project has been such a laugh!! More pics of the whole headers and down pipe set up. Enjoy......to be continued
stuarted Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 bloody work computer won't let me see any of the pics in the thread! Sounds very impressive all the same Peter. Excitement must be getting the better of you now!
