Hi Guys,

Looking to get the trouble and strife a car and have tried to get her round to the idea of a classic - be she's no havin it!!! So as a half way house I agreed to either a Z4 or a Boxter. I have found this one below and wondered what your thoughts were, the guy is looking for £8,500 for it, 80k miles and full Porsche service history on T plate (99)

Honda S2000 for me. Driven loads and they are endless fun and absolutely solid to drive. The boxster is a good car, but everyday service parts and labour are extremely expensive. Ive seen the service bill for a Cayman and it really aint pretty...

it looks nice m8 and im sure its a good car but i cant get the thought out of my head every time i see these things thats its a "poor mans porsche" so i would never ever get one

I think they are good looking cars and a lot of car for the money "poor mans porsche"? most of the top of the range Porsche's on the road are not paid for anyway so I hate that argument.

I have heard that the early boxters around that age and millage are prone to needing an engine rebuilt, thats from a guy who has done a few.

Id still buy one though

couldn't afford a 911 then?

Get used to hearing that alot. Too much of a womans car for me

I'd vote for the S2000, Honda in Falkirk has a very very nice blue one in at the moment

I know what everyone is saying about the S2000, but for some strange reason it just does not do it for me. Never driven one so wouldn't know until I had a wee test drive, may need to go and have a go of both and take it from there.

Just found this one on Pistonheads and it does look the part I have to say, £9,995 he wants with 48k on the clock, FSH on it too.

I've worked on my mates one, bits weren't too dear from Euro Car Parts. It drove quite nice, and to be honest, if the missus wanted one, I wouldn't complain. Oh, and they are considered to handle better than the "rich man's version".

Boxter 2.5, basically done a clutch with a clutch arm and master and slave cylinders. The bolts rot at the manifold to silencer, but that is an easy repair with a set of gas torches, and had to do a radiator. Nothing was massively expensive (some are even Audi parts)

I like it and perfect for the missus, but I wouldn't be averse to driving or owning it. I don't buy into the "couldn't afford teh 911 then" thing. My retort would be, "well it's better than that heap of calk Mondeo your driving!" Besides a Porche is a Porsche.

That S2000 though, that looks HOT!

LMAO only people that have no idea what they are talking about will say " couldnt you afford a real one" so I wouldnt worry.

Drive it and make your own mind up, 986 are ok and its a cheap porker but I would look for a face lift 986 or a 987. The 2.5 is a pap engine and they suffer from RMS and IMS faults so wouldnt have one in a lucky bag, never noticed if it was Tiptronic or manual but if its tiptronic that would be a huge deal breaker for me.

S2000 are great cars and I'm considering both but anyone that considers the S2000 superior over the 987 is bloody insane.

993 RSCS for me :crying:

No seriously if your thinking about the Boxster than yes they are a 'cheap' Porsche, my only advise is make sure it has the audio upgrade and 'real' leather... Both will make the experience that much better... Oh and don't bother with the 2.5, go for the later 2.7 or an 'S'

Boxster's aren't my cup of tea. I've driven loads and just don't like them.. Feel to wooden, and the 2.5 Gutless, yes they handle great and do everything you need them to, I just feel they lack a personality. There probably a perfect car for the 'misses' as they won't bite like a 911!

Oh, I worked for Porsche for nearly 10 years, if you need any more info or help let me know.

Hi Spooks,

The Porsche is a 2.7s and it's a manual box, not too keen on the tiptronic either - bit of a faff if you ask me.

Good luck in your search mate, as Rat and Cam have said the 993 are considered the best porkers but ya pay for that priviledge.

Prolly be next year before I buy a porker now, got a wedding to pay for :crying:

Hi Spooks,

The car is a 2.7 and it's a manual box, not too keep on the tiptronic model.

personally, if I had the choice between any Porker, an s2000, or a Z4, I'd take the porker any day of the week, and twice on a Sunday.

the Z4 I like the look of, but I seem to remember reviews saying that they have really crap handling...?

And the s2000.... No. just, no... I think that they are just hideous...

Like has been said, a porsche, is a porsche, ok, personal, I'm not a huge fan of the boxters, but I'd never turn one down...
