Whats Up With The Pricing Of Subaru's?

Recommended Posts

As the title says really, Am looking at getting an other impreza looking at 2006 on hawkeys and the prices i'm seeing are just completely random, from subaru dealers to private. A lot of the dealers are cheaper than the private sellers. And some are just plain stupid.

What should a low milage 2007 sti come in at?

Also if anyone fancy's swapping plus cash there way for my A3 3.2v6 dsg feel free to give me a shout.

People are convinced their cars haven't fallen in value....it isn't true unfortuntely.

If the people selling are keen to get their car sold, then they need to put it up for an attractive price... guy on Scoobynet has been trying to sell his White Hawkeye STi which is completely mint for months, he's got it up for £15500 now without a single viewer.

My car went cheaper than normal because I'd done a deal to get a replacement and needed the Scoob gone before that happened. I was also lucky that I bought wisely, I'd have never bought a new Scoob without the massive discounts available at the time and the stonking p/x price I got for my MY99. The result of that is that I'm not upside down on the finance side of things which a LOT of Subaru owners will be facing at the moment if they bought 'normally' with normal margins and discounts. This isn't a problem if you are planning to keep the car for a reasonable length of time, but with finances being the way they are just now a lot of people are trying to get out early and looking at losing a few grand in negative equity, hence the dreamy top end prices.

Col, I did do a check on webuyanycar.com and it was grim reading!!

Cheers,

Grant

That does sound odd... Maybe it's demand for the older saloon models as the hatchbacks aren't selling as well as older models? (Not slating, just thinking of a genuine possibility)

as an example,go onto autotrader and do an STI search between £8k and £12k,theres only 124 cars for sale, that includes imports and high mileage cars====dealers paying what they think the cars are worth which is a lot more than what the trade books would indicate and as the trade books collate there info on sales, auctions etc hence the increase in prices over the last few months.

I am currently selling my own X5,i tried to trade it in back in December and todays price is £3k more than back then....................mental!!!

My 2 cents...

The fall-off in demand for new cars over the past few months has been replaced to extent by an increase in demand for SH cars. Therefore, many secondhand cars have seen in increase in value compared to end of 2008. My guess is that, while the market has recovered somewhat since last year, it still isn't as strong as it was say two years ago - i.e. the overall trend would still be a downward one. Yet it wouldn't be in the interests of your average car dealer to agree with that slightly bleak assessment, but time will tell how much of a 'recovery' this turns out to be

Despite this recent increase in SH car values, there are still examples in Autotrader where private sellers are asking for more than the dealer prices, leading me to believe that they're still kidding themselves on that their cars haven't depreciated as much as they really have. Bummer

That's great news if you bought your car three months ago, but if your car is 2+ years old it's probably still depreciated more heavily than you might have expected when you bought it.

Assuming your car's not done a huge mileage, it's worth way more than that.

i tried we buy any car for my pals x reg wagon with 106K on the clock. offer price was just over 2K.

it wasnt as bad as i thought. going to try private sell for just a wee bit more.

were changes in road tax scheme just postponed for a year? they will probably bring it back soon to try and get more coffers to make an insignificant +ve on the billions they have dished oot. wonder if pre 2001 car would be more desirable as a result?

Watch out with that though mate. If they offer you just over £2k then they will haggle you down saying this needs fixed this needs sorted and you will walk away with a deal nearer £1700 for example.

I would avoid if possible.

Yea I agree.. car is lovely, but looks like the price will be 15500... to be honest, I'd pay 14700-14800 for it tops. Any more and you're into T20, Import STi money which are a little more special.

Cheers,

Comparing an X5 is hardly comparable to Subaru's Gav. Is it per chance a diesel? Some dealers may WANT to take a px one day and NOT want to take it the next. Dad was offered 16k for his RR Sport TDV6 S 07 model against an 08 plate X5 3.5D today.....sorry, but WHERE can you get a 2 year old Sport for 16k???

Me think's there are less people attempting to sell their cars, as they aren't worth as much as they were 6-10 months ago.

Every car dealer i've spoken to says there isn't a credit crunch on, but right now isn't a great time to try and sell Subaru's IMO.

PS:- where's the picture of the solid rear bulkhead you were going to show me Gav?

.............sometimes i wonder why i'm in the motortrade!!!

Let me start..................why is it 'hardly comparable' as new car sales have slowed it is understandable to most that there will and would be a shortage of good used cars, therefore,it can only increase the used values of vehicles as demand outstrips supply. Why you think a dealer would want a px one day and not the next amazes me,if anything i would say that Subarus are much more desirable than most and as such i would be more than happy to pay well into book for the rite car,you only have to go onto autotrader to see the lack of stock,do a dealer network search and see some of the prices that dealers are asking,i was selling foresters in december for £9995,today i cant buy them trade for that.

With regards to your Fathers RR Sport, why a dealer would offer you £6000 behind book is beyond me,especially when the deals that were on RR's have all but gone, unless its in an undesirable colour with cloth, but even then its still not £6k behind book.

I have proved the point today with my X5,the car books at £15475@40k,the best bid i have had so far selling to the trade simply as a trade bid is £16700 collected,tt into my bank account and completely hassle free.

So to conclude, cars are defo. worth more today than they were at the latter point of last year,no matter what car it is,if you need any advise on the RR i have several traders that would buy it for serious money, its a fantastic market to be selling subarus in currently, the only problem being lack of stock, you just have to check out our forecourt to see evidence of this.

p.s that solid rear bulkhead, did you never read all those extracts that were posted up by more than me at the time :hl::redcard:

stay cool
