mctwistuk Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Came out of work this afternoon to find that someone has tried to steal my car. The lock on the drivers door has been smashed in. Am confident it has happened outside work (kyle street Glasgow) as only reason i noticed someone had tried to break in was that when i tried to unlock the car with the remote key fob it unlocked then locked again. Thinking it was the battery that was running out i tried the door lock and found out it had been smashed. Car unlocked and locked ok when i got in it in the morning. One of our comapny cars had been stolen yesterday and the factory unit across the road also had a car stolen. Chris
micra_wrc Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 och not good. might be worth getting one of the bright yellow handbrake lock or steering locks, just a visual deterrant and an extra line of security. are you able to park the car somewhere you can see it when you're inside work?
scouk Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Grrr! Worryingly there seems to be increasing reports of attempted thefts on this forum recently.... Hope you get hte damage repaired without too much cost...
jamesm Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Grrr! Worryingly there seems to be increasing reports of attempted thefts on this forum recently.... I was just thinking that myself when I saw your post. Worth being on your guard. Could have been worse. At least they didn't make away with it. Hope you get the damage sorted without too much fuss.
mctwistuk Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 car is parked outside my window but am not at my desk that often. as for these yellow lock things i am not convinced they do anything as am sure i have seen programmes on tv where thieves can take them off in seconds but am willing to be proved wrong on this. Car is trackered etc but still would be gutting if it actually got stolen. We had a bmw 5 series stolen yesterday from work. The thieves got in somehow and stole the keys from one of our sales reps desk then had the balls to talk to somone on the stairs out then steal the car. Car was also stolen in the same way from unit acorss the road from our office.
little vodka goblin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Know how you feel mate, some scumbag tried to steal mine out of my garage monday night/tuesday morning, also tried to break into my house Totally agree with using as many visual deterrents as possible, (hopefully) it'll make the thieving gits decide your car's just too much like hard work - after all they probably don't have a clue what its like to do a normal days graft.
cullenmin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I really do hate hearing about this kind of thing. Sounds like you got lucky there. Makes me think they were maybe scared off somehow. I take it this was in broad daylight? ......Now that is worrying
oobster Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hope they haven't done too much damage to the car Chris (i.e. no painting required) and I also hope the thieves die of horrible penis cancer.
Richie Cross Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 That's pi$h...but at least you still have it! I'm all for deterrent. I think it's human nature that people like that will move onto the next car/house if they think it's an easier job.....unless they were particularly after a Scooby (they could guess it would have security!) I got a steering lock from Halfords and IIRC it's Thatcham Cat 3 so it should at least last a bit longer than some others.
StewartyBoy Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I would sit and wait for them tomorrow. They obviously know the cars there now, and will come back with something else to have a go at it. Buy yourself a nice softball bat from Asda and remind them why theft is naughty.

Buy yourself a nice softball bat from Asda and remind them why theft is naughty. yeah thats wot i would normally say but also very good way to get yourself done and end up in the pocky and nobody wants that. the yellow handbrake things dont work as a mates old 4x4 serria was stolen and it had one of them on it they just drove the car hard in the gear it was in plus the handbrake on scoobies aint the best. Best one to go for is a thatcham approved steerin wheel cover. working in recovery i see it every day and most common way is to steal the keys nowadays so make sure you keep your keys on you at all times and away from site looking through letter box.
mic Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I can't believe the guts these guys have!! I know exactly where your car sits, and that is a pretty busy street what with all the students etc passing by..... It was either yesterday or the day before that I drove past your car at least twice.... Utter swines that try this schit... And is it not pretty stupid to be trying to steal a fairly easily recognisable car such as yours? Yeah ok graphics can be removed but it still wouldnt stick in anyones mind until they got the stickers off surely..
StewartyBoy Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 That's it mate.....you put the fear into Chris so he doesn't leave the window all day tomorrow!!! Better safe than sorry. When I had the Valver Megane, 3 mornings in a row I came out to the window hanging half out. The week after a neighbour saw them out the window at 4 in the morning, and chased em up the street with a bat. Never happened again. Sorry to hear about your car mate, not trying to frighten you but obviously the last thing you want to do is underestimate these guys.
Richie Cross Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Thankfully I've a garage at home but always wondered if I'd want to keep the car if there was a failed attempt to steal it from my house!!! You'd be thinking they were coming back. Bit different that they try to take it on a busy street though. Then again.....how many times would you see someone at a car and because it was in broad daylight etc, you might just think they were getting into their own car and not give it a second thought.
mctwistuk Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 am defo looking on to alternative security for the car. When at the falkirk wheel meet one of the cars had a nifty alarm system that spoke when someone was near the car. Does anyone know anything about these systems? Are they good? Are they expensive? Or was it someone just pressing a button nearby?

I wouldn't want the talking one as that just encourages nobs to stand next to the car and trigger the voice.
mctwistuk Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 whewre did you get the alarm from Paul? Was it expensive. To be honest the voice would probably annoy me but a buzzer or something like you have would be ideal for a noise.

I got mines via the clifford website and the guy came and fitted it at the house. This is the one i got and it was about £350. http://www.cliffordalarms.co.uk/acatalog/C...MK_II_info.html
gc8-r Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 there used to be a cliffod alarm that spoke to you and ones that sends texts if someone is trying to steal it but theves have as much tech as most alarm comps best let them have it than get into trouble,...............or hurt if you attack them you'll get more than them......it will be you arresed not them for abh or gbh its just the way the law works(backwards) if an alarm goes off in the day how many people would take notice or ask if its there car(none i'd think) just not worth it now stupid gov has taken all powers away from us

They alarm is only good if the car is parked of the street, i had a astra gsi and i got one with the talking voice !!ALARM WILL SOUND IF YOU DONT BACK AWAY!! , 3 warnings and it goes off , the bad thing is the wind and the rain sets it off and even a passing car, i was out my bed like a yoyo for the 1st week, then after that i just rubbered it till the alarm went off!
StewartyBoy Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I had on of those talking alarms. Annoying isnt the word. ARMED - DISARMED - PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, THIS VEHICLE IS ALARMED - 10,9,8,7,6...arrrghhh!!!!
paul555sti Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) About ten years ago i had about £1000 worth of stereo gear nicked out of my golf gti. Myself and my brother bought one of these each. This was before anyone had really heard of tasers over here I never found any of my mate brave / daft enough to touch it though. We still have them but havent used them in years. http://freespace.virgin.net/autotaser.uk/ Daytime demo ( not mine ) Night time demo ( not mine ) Edited March 4, 2009 by paul555sti
nkwrx Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 That's a real bummer Chris, hope the damage is not too bad mate.
mctwistuk Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 i am now going to be £270 out of pocket due to the scum that tried to steal my car. That was money i had saved for my dwonpipe. Thanks to the guys at S&S for the help with this. I stopped off at Halfrauds and bought myself the stoplock thing for the steering wheel so will now have my car looking like fort knox. Chris
