TrackScotland Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 turns out the bloody head bolt was the only socket i was missing!!! grr 14mm 12 pointed socket modine is 24mm heads are off, block ready to be seperated, just the gudgeon pins to pull/push out. F1 qualifying and beer time though
TrackScotland Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 1 screw on the oil pump cover loose... could have been costly (but the bearing beat it to failing!) RH head... (seems to have LIN and LEX cams same as LH head :S) RH pistons LH pistons LH Head nice crosshatching on bores... pistons look in good shape too.
johns Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Are you going to rebuild this engine again and use as a backup?
TrackScotland Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 yup thats the plan.... not sure of spec etc, but I'll see whats wrecked with the engine and take it from there. Too hungover to do anything today though.
TrackScotland Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Ordered some new CarboTech XP8's for the front.... think its Endless something or other in there just now. Ordered SPA duel oil temp/pressure gauge. Fitted the pull chords for the plumbed in fire extinguisher too, just need to run the tube and nozzles now. Stripped another 4.8kg out too... more sound-deadning, some brackets and vents etc New injectors arrived... thanks for the quick turn around Mark/Lateral. 900cc (increased and flowmatched phase 2 STi 440's) injectors & adapters for my phase1 rails. some pics Fitted the 900cc injectors, with twin hole pintles....and some wee jobs, reflective alu tape on IC pipework above turbo, and fitted a big E sticker for the fire ext pull on the scuttle. old 440 phase1 injectors in rails with caps removed. (removed the O/S rail as its easier to get the bevelled washer in and work on the rails) scabby inlet sans fuel rail... really needs a paint. (thats where i put the bevelled washers (bevel up)... I trust that is correct ) injector collar to fit phase 2 to phase 1. collar fitted to phase 2 900cc (increased phase2 440) new injectors in rail with spaces and caps. Compensated the map/fueling by scaling the injectors to 55%. That should do for the short drive to get it on the rollers and mapped properly again. Old phase1 440cc STi injectors
TrackScotland Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 removed another couple og KG today, fitted bonnet pins and the carbon dive boards (had them for a while lying round the house) and a wee wash... car is manky though and needs something better to get all the oily marks off it. seem to have made a small dent whilst rolling the arches LOL
TrackScotland Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 had it remapped (Russ @ Wallace Performance) and hit a couple of more issues... Cant get more than 1.5bar - actuator too weak Misfire at just over 6000rpm. Any thoughts?! All the usual electrical suspects were checked, and swapped for known working items. CAS, Coil Pack, leads, new plugs etc..... Looking for any other suggestions. Results - 360bhp @ 6083rpm 321lb/ft @ 5190rpm At 1.5bar peak, falling to 1.25bar graphs
cullenmin Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Nice figures, very similar to mine. I havnt been RR'd since the last tweak though but will be around the 360+ i'd imagine Not sure about the misfire though Rich
TrackScotland Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 some vids.... http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/ak_snet_pract1.wmv - Me in Impreza, practice session.... http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/ak_snet_pract2.wmv - Me in Impreza, 2nd part of practice ses... aiming for another few hot laps but boost hose popped of.... :/ session was red flagged and restarted, but i didnt make it back out. RX7 Nearly took me out towards the end of the vid when you hear the tyre screetches... close behind! http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/ak_snet_qual1.wmv - qualifying... came in early after seeing some smoke from exhaust on shifts, and from drivers side front... came into pits, nothing obvious so back out again http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/ak_snet_qual2.wmv - off at coram with ****ed tyres doh http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/ak_snet_qual3.wmv - tyres are wrecked.... and i set my fastest lap - 1:21.5s, 5th in my Group (Club Group hhee... some offs, a spin.... and some scrappy driving. Was very good fun though, and showed where the car needs a lot of work... susp and brakes.... Understeer was a big issue after 1 hot lap... susp is just pish... and the brakes are... well... standard 4pots Still managed the 3rd highest trap speed into the braking zone on the back straight in practice...not sure what happened to me in the qualifying though.... 13mph down on that speed trap, but over 1sec quicker Car lasted very well, despite my best efforts misfire around 6000rpm was a bit of a pain when boost was turned up... you can prob hear it in vids.
green_goblin Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Good vids mate.....that looked like a scary one when you came off all good though
TrackScotland Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 yup... dont know what it looked like from the outside but it does appear airborne in the vid
green_goblin Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 yup... dont know what it looked like from the outside but it does appear airborne in the vid Yeh it looked that way....the guy behind must of got a cracker of a veiw of it If in doubt flat oot
johns Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Looks like you had fun and the car is still one piece and running. Good overall result given the issues with the car and lack of on track development time. I trust you have plans for the winter now
gambler Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 And Fee following another scottish scoobie - me- who started the flying lap without warming up his back tyres properly. See 1st corner! Then decided just to go for it anyway. http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/snet/fee_snet_final1.wmv
TrackScotland Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 a bit of a write up and some more pics and vids (all on you tube now) ------------------------- it was fun... and really highlighted where i need to improve the car... and remided me I need to stay calm when driving (never seems to happen) 1st hot lap of first TimeAttack session... too hot into to Russels chicane... Car...... is still running despite 500+mile drive down, fullday open pit trackday on sat, TA on sun and 500+mile drive home today....only had a couple of minor hicups all weekend. It split a wee coolant hose after a hard run. It didnt go on track, but when sitting back it the pits, Was a ballache to get at being right under the inlet (wee 90deg short hose). Got some stronger hose and help from a smaller handed Matty from Wallace Performance Also blew a boost hose off in practice.... (had that pipework off to fix coolant hose!) It seems to be puffing out smoke on high boost.... i'm not convinced its turbo seals, as sometimes you see it from the driver side front :l reassuring when flat out from 4th to 5th!! (only smoke on gearchanges) Nothing dripping or leaking, but there is oil mist round the inside of the drivers wing. Need to investigate further. I still have the standard breather plumbing. I could feel the misfire around 6000rpm and up when running anything over 1bar.... but just kept my foot to the floor and hoped for the best.... My fastest lap was a low 1:21... not far off Phill England (0.3s) in the yellow STi V3 TypeR. He was my target before hand... so in a way its good that I got close at the first attempt (his third year i think)... but a bit that i didnt beat him looking back at my fastest lap (blocked, messy etc). Phill is running low 300's but with better susp/brakes and a lighter car... so my 357bhp should even that out Huge thanks to the guys at Wallace Performance for some last minute work (whilst putting the Skyline back together)... Mark at Lateral for quick delivery of parts on the run up to sunday too ----------------------------------------------- We had both cars down at Snetterton... (towed the skyline, drove the Impreza. Not nice 500miles there, 500 miles back) My first competative outing in the Impreza, and i think only its 3rd time on track... so still very early days. Its running 357bhp with some missfire issues, standard brakes, and ancient non adjustable teins that were on when imported. The skyline has a fresh engine at 570bhp... by the looks of the Vids Fee was taking it easy with the car. She was a bit worried about the sump (extended) on the high kerbs and still getting used to the new triple plate clutch. Its a lot harder on the gearbox... and its standard! vids: Here are some of our vids (from club cars No7 and No63) AK - qualifying part 1- AK - qualifying part 2- AK - qualifying part 3, fastest lap- Fee - 2 hot laps in Superbattle Final (2nd is her fastest) in car - , same, but external cam - Fee- running over someones carbon cannards in qualifying - Fee- view of Russ Paton (Wallace Performance Evo) going a bit sideways... he won on the day, and 2nd in the championship. Me getting it all wrong and off roading :| Pics of the two cars... more here http://www.timeattack.co.uk/index.php/gall...l&gallery=9 Problems.... Impreza - burst a tiny coolant hose under the inlet. A bitch to change, but no major issue. Blew a boost hose off in practice as a result of that pipe work being off, and most likely not tightened enough when put back. Skyline - rad started leaking at the drain tap :/ a bloody perished rubber O ring! Easy fix but a pain to do with flat floor under front, and coolant all over the place lol RESULTS AK - Impreza 357bhp - fastest lap of 1:21.5 with 110.0mph crossing the start/finish speed trap. Didnt get into the final but finished Qualifying 22nd out of 40. I was only a 1 off entry. Fee - Skyline 570bhp - fastest lap of 1:18.1 with 126.6mph crossing the start/finish speed trap. Came 11th overall in the final, 8th in her class, and 7th in the points table for the year (not bad for missing a round, and crashing at the first!) Full TSL Timing results found here - http://www.tsl-timing.com/attack/2009/94170.pdf
gambler Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I had a slight missfire at about 6000rpm. Andy Forest advised me to grind down the crank sensor slightly. It fixed the problem. Maybe worth a shot.
cullenmin Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Good vids and pics Interesting times and will be good to see how the scoob compares to the skyline after some suspension & brake upgrades. Rich
TrackScotland Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) Scott : can you go into more detail? any pics of how much/where etc Cullenmin: I think the Impreza would need at least another 50hp as well as decent susp/brakes to match the skyline Edited October 13, 2009 by TrackScotland
gambler Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Adam - I did not actually do the work. It was my mechanic. I believe he just took a couple of thou off the bottom of the crank sensor with a file. I'll ask him exactly what he did and get back to you. It solved the problem straight away though.
bob wrx Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 looking good adam! how much did the injectors cost from lateral?
TrackScotland Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 er.... i think its says on Lateral site... £175 rings a bell, then £35 or so for the adapters for phase 2 inj into phase1 rails
TrackScotland Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 here you go - Side feed injector enlarging and flow testting - http://lateralperformance.co.uk/product.ph..._flow_matching_ = £175 +vat Collars - http://lateralperformance.co.uk/product.ph...__93__98__rails = £35 +vat
green_goblin Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Well done to the lot of you!! They were really good vids, Gambler was not making it easy for fee.....good racing!! Makes me want a go!!!!
