RA Dunk Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 BBC have recieved 200 complaints over clarksons comments about lorrie drivers murdering prostitutes. Dont know about you but i found it funny anyway
st3ph3n Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I wonder if we can send in "more of the same please"? Must be a way to counteract the idiots who complained even though they didn't watch it.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 (edited) I thought it was part of the HGV multi guess test - Q. You are Driving along and see a scantily clad female "hitch hiker". do you - a. Pass her by b. Pick her up and drop her at her destination c. Pull over, proposition her d. pull over, proposition her, agree a price, head to the local greasey spoon truck stop, bum her, skelp her on the head with your maglite then continue with your delivery. mystery machine Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 The show was entertaining as always, great to see it back The 'lorry drivers = prostitute murderers' banter was funny too. Anyone who finds it offensive needs to learn how to operate their remote control Saddens me a bit that some people are so witless that they miss the point of a joke like that and can't see past the scope for being offended - i.e. it's an absurd (and therefore funny) attempt to stereotype lorry drivers, but does not in any way suggest that harm to prostitutes is funny or to be condoned. Unfortunately these things are never funny once you've had to explain them... The bails of hay + electric heater... oh ma ribs
StrikE Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 It was funny but i cant imagine how upsetting it must of felt for the poor families sitting down watching a bit of telly & trying to get on with their lifes for clarkson to make jokes about it, quite a few times. Poor show
lv-426 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Why do people take life so seriously ? Consider the jokes that come out of comedians mouths & compare it to Clarkson ! Top Gear is no longer anything other than motoring based entertqainment & should be treated as such - light hearted entertainment by 3 blokes who are in the fortunate position of not having to act like grown-ups. How much do I envy them

I'd really hope they'd understand that he wasn't suggesting that the murder of prostitutes is in itself funny (which it obviously isn't), more that it was the lorry drivers' turn to have a ridiculous joke made about them. At some point in our lives, most of us will hear a joke that uses subject matter that has caused us a fair amount of devastation in our lives (I know I have) - but I think the point to remember is that it's not necessarily making a joke at our expense. IMO, making light of 'dark' subject matter is often a valid means of making the harsh realities of life easier to deal with. Works for me, anyway...
wulsey Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 (edited) I thing Clarkson is a top bloke & its great to have TG back on the box! Edited November 4, 2008 by wulsey
RA Dunk Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 I thing Clarkson is a top bloke & its great to have TG back on the box! here here! Clarkson for PM!!
thewelsho Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Not a huge fan of Top Gear as the show has far too much novelty factor. I prefer listening to proper car-reviews. That said, Clarkston is very witty and very intelligent and having read a couple of his books, he cuts close to the bone. I never saw the incident in question, but I saw a 10 second clip on YouTube and it seemed to me a bit much. I'm agreeing with StrikE, "poor show". Not that I would complain and want him sacked, but he just has to be a bit more sensitive. My tuppence worth.
RA Dunk Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 200 complaints out of 7 million viewers is pretty good going IMO, cant please everybody, i bet most of these complaints came from the same people every week, i think they just watch the show so they can complain about something TBH
J.C. Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I wonder if we can send in "more of the same please"? Must be a way to counteract the idiots who complained even though they didn't watch it. Copied this from another forum Topgear received complaints from sunday nights show about Jeremy Clarksons reference to "Lorryists" Please support Topgear by clicking the praise button.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complaints_stage1.shtml Send Praise Television Programme BBC2 Topgear 02/11/08 Comments: Praise them to the highest!!! pass this on to as many forums as you can......
mystery machine Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 but I saw a 10 second clip on YouTube and it seemed to me a bit much. These things never work taken out of context, Welsho.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 How about we ban all cars and lorries now (along with smoking and mobile phones)......then no-one will have to be sooooooooo offended with what someone says as TG will not be on air. WTF about the families???? Maybe if the parents of these prostitutes did a good job in the first place then they would not be in the position they are in. Life is hard at times and people say things you do not agree with..........it is called freedom of speech!! But to take tongue in cheek comments like that so out of context just goes to show what a namby pamby country we have become!!

zeolite Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I wasn't offended but I didn't think it was that funny and not worth repeating. if you really want to be offended watch Mock the week. I got one of Clarkson's books for christmas and gave it up because his nonsense just annoyed me.
st3ph3n Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 If you REALLY REALLY want to be offended then go see Frankie Boyle from Mock the week doing a live show. It's clever, very funny and obviously offensive. Not Roy Chubby Brown offensive for the sake of it, or offensive as the entire punchline. I just bought 7 of Clarkson's books for £8.99 (in total). Reading Born to be riled at the moment which is my 4th one of the set. I've got a spare copy of I know you got soul now which I got last christmas but came in the set of 7 I just got too. It's a great read and is full of his love for great machines rather than rants about the belgians.
