Normally would prefer to paint a wall and watch it dry than watch 5th Gear..... however, that was a ballsy move by Jason Potato that made for great telly. :)

Was it really a ballsy move, or was it hyped-up? Just wondering as there was no external camera shots which would have looked much more impressive. In-car footage is just annoying, who wants to see the inside of a car with the landscape going past, polintless. Other than that, I thought the peice was ok.

I haven't actually clicked that link, but in the program there was an exterior shot that showed the Impreza slide right past the front of the Evo... I know that it would have been a montage of all the best shots taken from a day at the track with the two cars, but I think that was genuinely real, going by the shot outside and the faces of the drivers. They maybe did mean to do the last corner move, but I defo dont think they meant to get quite so close. :)

Yup i think that was for real as the look on Plato's face said it all and it was confirmed shortly after by a tirade of expletives i would be proud of

Cracking bit of telly though

There was a genuine look on Platos place that he was gonna take the front of the evo clean off! And Needles clearly didn't expect him to coem in as late as he did.. Maybe at first kept the door open to let him past but didn't expect him to end hte end!

Certainly was a good bit of telly! Goes to show they can get it wrong!!

On teh review point... WHy o why cant TG / 5g to decent review these days.. What ever happened to the 4th gear bugeye review and tg blobeye reviews where they road tested the cars then saw how they faired ont eh track? I have yet to see a road test of hte STi.. Is it really marketing as a track car!?!

Also the 5g review was biased to the point that I think they wanted to concentrate on teh cfact hte Imrpeza is no longer the understeery sod it's alwayhs been previously.. But they went too far as showed it as a fun oversteery car Flick the diff down a notch or 2 and it will easily go roudn corners as finely tined as the evo!

IMHO

IMO, the Evo looked a bit understeery at points when powering out of the corners... and the Impreza looked lairy as fook. I'm not a massive fan of the looks of either cars, but I'd take the Impreza purely for the fun it looks like you can have in it.

The computers in an Evo can only do so much to contain the laws of physics on a damp smooth track

Has the new STI got TC?

It has a feature called "Vehicle Dynamics Control Systems" that is meant to deal with stability and traction, so I guess so. Although in the piece, he says that it has traction control. I dunno if his information on the car is reliable though given that he said the car had 300 Nm torque... it actually has 407 Nm torque which, if memory serves me correctly, is around 300 ft/lbs of torque.

Yup, they got thier nm and lbs/ft a bit mixed up

Think the VDCS is mainly to tell the diffs how to act and not an actual TC in the normal sense

The STI certainly looked like it could hang its ar$e out at will where as with a TC fitted it would always be trying to reign the rear end back in. I loved the shot when Tiff was talking about how neutral the Evo while in the background the STI was at a good 45 degrees of sliding happiness. I know which i would prefer around a greasy Knockhill

Think the researcher for 5g should be shot
