Car Insurance.....again

Anyone with any knowledge in this area?

I thought that your insurance was supposed to go DOWN not up! Last year I had one claim of a windscreen which to the best of my knowledge didn't affect your policy, so why the hell has my insurance - now with 7 years no claim instead of 6 - gone up!

I think a phone call on Monday will be in order.

Mine went up after i claimed for my windscreen, their explaination was that although you don't lose your no claims you have still made a claim which puts the premium up (if you get my drift).

Yer jokin!

When the price came in it felt like someone had pissed in my chips to be honest. If that's what they're playing I'll maybe phone around and not mention windows to anyone else then :D

This year I did get my renewal in before the policy run out though, which is certainly a bonus after last year's wee incident.

Oh and I'm 27 now Andy, so I'm hardly a pup anymore.

My insurance is due end of next week....post up how you get on. Okay so not like for like on info but the companies you try.

Folk I'm with just now gave a good price last year so will see if they're as good this year...Keith Michaels.

Is it not the standard line when your insurance goes up year to year that "premiums as a whole have gone up". More like it's just that they have you as a customer and hope you stay without paying a huge amount of notice to the increase !

I'm with KM just now too so you'll be getting your renewal in soon I'd think. Will try Adrian Flux and A plan I think. Did a quick check on confused and with a few fibs (no mods) just to get a quote then it would seem the KM price isn't too far above what they're showing.

Maybe I should phone Churchill as he gaurantees to beat your quote. That is assuming you are John Smith of middle Englandcestershire and you're a middle manager with 2.4 kids, a wife, a mistress, a dog called rex, full NCB and nothing but a parking ticket to your name.

Av been looking for insurance just now too. Im with A Flux at the mo and my renual was £1150 which was exactly the same as last year so i shopped around had two company's LLoyds of London wanted £895 so i then phoned A Flux they said we can beat that and quoted me £879 i then phoned swinton and they quoted me £866 i then phoned A flux back and they beat it again and quoted me £859 £ 291 cheaper than the renewal notice how in the name can they do that why did they not just quote me that in the first place ????

Know exactly how you feel.

Quite a few years ago I had a claim in 1st scoob. I had full prtected no claims.

Renewal for the following year went up 4 times! They could have just sent me a letter saying GTF, don't want your business anymore.

When I called them and reminded them I had full protected no claims and to ask WTF, I was told that my no claim disc was intact and still protected? When I siad how come it has went up so much I was told that after a claim you go through the system as a higher risk so the overall premium is higher. What's the point of protected no claims, well it would be even higher sir!

Not being from the lovely insurance business I always thought a car insurance for say a scoob (certain age etc etc) would be say £1000 and if you had 60% no claims it would be £400 etc. Far too simple and not as easy to rip us off!

Mind you insaying that Admiral have been really competitive for me the last few years.

Can't say I was overly impressed with the renewal quote I got from KM either st3ph3n. Like you , done a wee search and phoned round the companys mentioned above and ended up with a far better deal..

Performance Direct might be worth a look also.

TBH, I think insurance companies 'try it on' with your initial renewal quote, playing the % game where they hope a certain number of people will just accept the price without question.

Both my wife & I are with A-Plan and they tried to take the p1$$ with both of us at renewal time - me last December & my wife in May this year. In both cases they had raised the price ~£100 so, I did a quick 'confused.com' & 'gocompare' search which brought back quotes almost half of the A-Plan prices.

Quick phone call on each occasion got the 'oh, don't know how that happened. The renewals Team must have been mistaken'. Funnily enough with a bit of 'coaching' they beat the best price by £10 each time. Did whinge that they had to waive most of their fee but hey, life's a b!tch.

So Stephen, defo worth a call m8 - even do a 'confused.com' to hopefully give yourself some ammo for negotiating. If they don't come down take one of the better quotes.

I was with KM and although I got a quote from them that was £113 less than last year, I used to be insured with A-Plan so thought nothing to lose by giving them the opportunity to re-quote. Got a call from call centre lass who sounded like she was on speed saying because my car was modified they couldn't quote me, but she was going to put me through to five insurers directly in turn to get quotes from them.

I thought the whole point of going through a broker was so you didn't have to go through the hassle of contacting dozens of insurers directly, giving the same information time and time again - which is what exactly they wanted me to do, being passed back to the speed woman in the call centre each time so she could pass me on to the next one. I hung up before I got to the first insurer.

Disappointed in A-Plan as they were spot on last time I dealt with them. Ended up staying with KM simply because the Gathering stuff is mental, it was cheaper than last year and I didn't have time to shop around.

If you are declaring mods etc. it becomes tricky, I realise KM specialises in this sort of thing but I've always found Direct Line, Admiral and Privilege to be OK. I'm 35 and my PPP is taken as standard and declare my PFF7s as optional extras. I'm with Elephant just now but will not be renewing as they are like a budget airline as they keep adding extras on once you have paid the initial cover. The increase will no doubt be to pay for some poor guy in Cornwall whose car got washed away in a flood!!!!!!!!

I renewed in June, performance direct renewal was over £800, i went with elephant £590.00 with suspension mods declared. Would have been £460.00 without declared mods.

Note: My excess is £700.00

I cannot understand this either.. they say "protected no claims" means that your NCB will remain intact, but they don't tell you that protects NCB's are irrelevant to insurance companies since you have to tell them about any claim made anyway, regardless of fault!

whats the bleeding point then!?

Yeah, I had that same hassle earlier on this year. Thought that by passing me directly to the other insurers that it'd be a quick check of details not giving them all the details time and time again. Right PITA and at the end of it all I don't think any of them were any better than my renewal with Bell Direct.
