thewelsho Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 oil cooler about£160-£180in line thermostat about £50-£70 or milsport do this for a classic http://www.milsport.co.uk/cgi-bin/jump_nav...resource_id=365 dont see why it wouldnt fit a new age? So by the time its all fitted that will be 300 hundred shekels... great! Oh I have an oil cooler!!! How boring is that?! £300 could be spend on sexier mods than that!
nanaki Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 this is true... but not many could keep you out on the track twice as long without you screwing the oil.

Well there's a good point but in saying that, I wouldn't stay out any longer than 1 warm up 5-6 flying laps 2 cooling laps anyway. Thing is, I dunno how long it took before I was hitting 120 and I dunno if it woudl actually go any higher than that. Then, you have to ask yourslef, "how accurate are teh gauges"? More accurate than having none I suppose. Ach well, I guess I gotta suck it up, which means no new stickers - cr4p!

You do seem to have been bitten by the track day bug and an oil cooler will helpin your circumstances Wee bit off topic, here is a link to the company i was talkin about. euan_r Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 nice vids. speaking of thermostats, have you got one of those earlier opening water thermostats? that should help lower oil temp too but not sure how great an influence it would have.
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 That's what I was suggestion euan. The Zero/sports one works great one mine. Although alang told me that you can just drill out a standard one to a specific size and it does the same job! Can't remember the size though or how to do it. I got my Zero one from ebay for cheap though. John - the one at the alternator is the oil pressure one. It goes in where the standard low oil pressure sensor goes. But if you have that there then I imagine you have the temp one in the gallery above 3. You take the IC off to get at it. It was where I was recommended to fit mine for a more accurate idea of temps. If you can really be fecked you could probably get a generic oil cooler off ebay, then just get the proper lines etc. and fabricate something yourself. Or buy something good instead!

Stephen, your talking to a guy who can't change wheels without a drama let alone fabricating and fitting oil coolers etc.!!! Yes, the IC came out as well to get access to some sensor, so I'm probably fitted up the same as you. I think I will get a thermostat like yours, get that fitted and see if that brings the temps down a bit.
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I would have said that I was down possibly 5-10 degrees on average running John. This is the one I have - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zero-Sports-Cool-Rac...7QQcmdZViewItem

This is the one I have - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zero-Sports-Cool-Rac...7QQcmdZViewItem Thanks for that Stephen. Two more questions and I'll be done, maybe. 1) Will this do the 2.5L as well? 2) What's involved in fitting?
st3ph3n Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 As far as I'm aware it fits John. Fitting involves handing it over to someone with a clue. That's what I did!
