scouk Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Hi guys, Keep talking about this but I've never got round to it yet. Car's probably due a service in the near future.. (havent had it done since I bought the car apart from self servicing which doesn't stamp the book ) Anyone reccomend who to go with in the north? Dicksons INv | Glenburgie | T&C in Aberdeen? or just my local guy that I get the MoT done at carKare, Elgin? (i trust him as a decent mechanic) It would be for the 60,000 mile service so hopefully not too expensive.. (even though it's only done 52,500 miles ) Ideally want somewhere that'll do it at a weekend so I don't have to drive some dodgy car for a day, wouldn't mind a shot of a MY08 if there was a proper local dealer Thanks,
iainc Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I always used Reekies in Forres (John Grey and Sons), Jimmy there always looked after the 94 Turbo I had. They used to be a Subaru dealer in the past and its the same guys that were there last time I used them. Iain.

Sadly the place was turned to rubblea few months ago!! No kiddin!.. shame really as it was our only proper dealer in the area... I think they closed down completely rather than just moving location...

Not been up past there in ages... didn't realised it was knocked down... bit of a shame as I really liked using them and could trust that they'd look after the car.
scooby222 Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 sfraid to say i dont know of anyone up here id trust with mine, not at all impressed with subarus main dealers or service agents. if you could fit it in with a wee break or shopping trip i strongly recomend awd in perth, good guys and open on saturdays
Gee Wr1 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I'd say Dicksons Inverness, always used them & never had anything but top service from them. I know it's Kia now but it's the same staff & boys in the workshop, one of them being a ex Prodrive mechanic.
Guest Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 i have always used glenburgie Liam knows his stuff good prices and service

I'm not a fan of Dicksons Inverness, they never bothered to check the brakes on my last service! When I asked why they said " Due to the low mileage, didn't need checking" I'll be going to AWD Perth this year! Jen
cullenmin Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Al its well worth the trek to AWD, ive used them for 2 years now, many abz peeps venture down there aswell. Handier for me livin in Kdy aswell
Sk8er Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Been putting both my Imprezas to Aird Motors in Beauly for over 10 years now. 1st class service every time. Went to Dicksons Inverness for an interim once, never again. Hope this helps

LOL! the responses here are starting to crack me up! I guess the safest thing is to try AWD... Only problem being is if I go through the hassle to take it down there I'd probably give in and end up upgrading the brakes.. Which means it'll cost a damn sight more than just a regular service... D'oh!

D'oh! I know that feeling!! The more I speak to them, the more impressed I am. Good sound knowledge. Plus, im sure the said a courtesy car would be available to nip into Perth while they are working on the car. 22B, P1??? Edited February 27, 2008 by Smiler AS

Hopefully I'll try and hold off on the brake upgrade until after the service... Maybe new brake fluid will help the spongyness and lack of bite!
Peter W Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 My STI is always serviced at T&C in Aberdeen. One of the mechanics (Brian Milne) stays in Huntly so I take the car to his house the night before & pick it up the following night. Saves me the hassle of taking it to Aberdeen & I have service booklet stamped by authorised Subaru dealer.
zeolite Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Funny how you will always find someone with a bad word..... Had a lot of dealings with Aird and not a bad word to say about them some good Scooby rumours about them too.
euan_r Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 best just doing it yourself as you have been. sod paying someone else for fluid change etc. if its to complete service book phone up liam and see if hes got a stamp, then take it there to get serviced if he has. my car will be going there as soon as i can give up driving it for a week.

Wouldn't mind someone havign a good look over her.. It's had a tough year with the exhaust changes, turbo tweaks and remap.. Would like to have someone who can lift her up and take a good look underneith and fiddle with things I can't normally reach using ramps, just to make sure all is well. Oh and stamp the book.. Not too fussed about and "official" dealer doing it.. Last service, just before I bought it, was done at a SunnyHill Motors themselves so the SUBARU servicing had already gone from the log (All previous stamps are T&C Aberdeen).. But some sort of stamp woudl be nice to proove servicing (It didn't get one in 07 )... At least Glenburgie would probably have a "Glenburgie Subaru" stamp Mostly interested in the brake system and refresh the fluids TBH... Few MOT's ago the brake pipes were apparently flagged up as beign corroded, so wouldn't mind having them looked at... Edited February 27, 2008 by ScoUK
scooby222 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 if your getting the fluid done anyway Al get Andy at awd to do you a deal on braided hoses, had them done at my last service and made a big difference to pedal feel, remember to haggle then play the sidc discount card!. as you know my cars still under warranty (only 2 years old) but i chose to use them over any main dealer as they were cheaper and more willing to fit me in and they more than repaid that decision by poining out a few areas that needed warranty and returning the car to me running more sweetly than ever. have used aird for my classics a few times and was happy with the service, went in a year ago with my sti and when i went back the mechanic had a go at me for modifying my car, telling me that it obviously wasnt the standard downpipe and what was i thinking of decatting it id get nothing but trouble etc. when i pointed out it was the ppp sports cat as fitted by subaru he muttered something about never having seen one of them before and wandered off. wont be back there again
sandyRS16i Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Go at AWD, great service and worth the trek. I have used Bitz Motorsport in Nairn as well tho, very good to work with, plus they own several Subaru Rally cars so know their stuff. Personally I would avoid anyone else in the North area, unless I really had to use them
thefastone Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Well I use T&C, Ive generally had good service, and Have used them a fair bit recently, without any problems, and I'm happy as larry... And remember we have a special deal with them... See the top of the forum for details 10% off parts, a good labour rate, and you get the Subaru dealers Stamp...
