t3hWIT Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I'm ashamed to say that he's somewhat local to me. The VW guys around here are nuts. You don't question their actions, you just back away slowly...

Kenny.S Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Whats wrong with that? I'd say it was being quite resourceful! I've done similar things on a lathe, it's quite normal to use a lathe to spin things up and then finish or polish them by hand using wet'n'dry paper or a small peice of cloth. If you were to get them done professionally they would do the exact same thing except it would be on a big lathe.
jodie typeRA Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) thats a great idea ....make my life alot easer when i do the next wheels Edited February 18, 2008 by jodie typeRA

Why pay someone else for a job you could do yourself..if you've got the gonads for it right enough.
dipsy Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Kenny.S you can stop lathe if any thing happens with the emergency stop or the foot stop .Polishing your wheels like that is stupid and dangerous .
Kenny.S Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Well personally I wouldnt call it stupid or dangerous, it's only as dangerous as you make it, if you go steaming in thinking your invincible then your asking for trouble but with a bit of care and your hand in the correct place and as long as you respect what your doing the chances of anything going wrong are slim. It's also a very good way to clean up brake discs by holding a peice of emery paper against it, the same with cleaning the drive flanges up prior to fitting new discs. I've done this many times and i can still open jam jars. Edited February 18, 2008 by Kenny.S
thewelsho Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 and i can still open jam jars. I use a lathe to open jam jars. I just set it in the jaws of the lathe, not too tight mind, other wise it will break the jar. Then, grab the lid really tight, and fire up the lathe; the lid comes off in my hand, great.
