IanJ Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 A son, a brother, a father, a friend, a legend, an inspiration and a loss to many. RIP Colin and Johnny I only had the fortune to meet him once but he was a true gent. And to the families of Ben and Graeme my thoughts are with you too. Ian
weeb Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 R.I.P Colin! The BEST and most entertaining rally driver EVER! I watched him on the edge of my seat every time, excited by his amazing driving, i loved his subaru, the noise and everything with it! His driving will never be duplicated, he is a LEGEND! Johnny, u will always be with your special dad! B
ScoobySounds Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Quite simply he was the inspiration for all of us! My thoughts go to his family... to his wife alison especially.
H4AFY Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 R.I.P Will always be remembered best the world has seen our thoughts to the family such a tragic loss.
DarkDvr Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Not sure if I post in the right thread, but thank you very much to whoever organized and participated in a caravan of remembrance for Colin. Good job guys and thanks from Southern California Impreza Club (SCIC). RIP Colin. You've made yourself immortal.
RA Dunk Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) Even today im still struggling to come to terms with this, i feel as though i`ve lost a brother Edited September 17, 2007 by Ac!D
555JRA Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) Quite simply he's the reason for SIDC, it wouldn't exsist without his exploits in the Welsh forests in the early Impreza's in the 1990s. A very sad loss, first Richard Burns then Michael Park and now Colin. RIP Edited September 17, 2007 by 555JRA
plsteve Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I just can't come to terms with the tragic premature loss of Colin and those on board the helicopter. We have lost one of Scotland's greatest sportsmen and on my opinion the greatest ever rally driver. I remember watching him drive and being amazed at the sheer speed and commitment he showed every time he stepped inside a car. He truly was an inspiration for a generation of racing enthusiasts. It is so very sad we will never see him drive again, but thanks for the memories Colin. The biggest tragedy is the loss of the 2 wee boys, their whole lives in front of them. It would have been wonderful to see another generation of McRae behind the wheel of a WRC car once again. My deepest condolences go to the families, I hope you can draw strength from the love and support that is being shown worldwide. Rest in peace Colin, Johnny, Graeme and Ben. Steve.
fiefster Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 This is an absolute tragedy for all 3 families and my thoughts are with them at this sad time. There will never be another Colin McRae the reason why why I drive a Subaru. Will be much missed.
st3ph3n Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 It feels like we've lost a figure head. The club exists because of Subaru's popularity which is in a large part of Colin's doing. Most importantly 3 families have lost loved ones, and countless friends have lost important people in their life. People who were all far too young to die. For the rest of us we've lost a hero.
speech Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Still shocked over this.... Was always a joy to watch and was the reason for me flicking on to WRC when it was on telly, a true Scottish legend. Thoughts and wishes go to the families involved.
david_hobbs Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 A truly shocking event. My condolences go to all who lost loved ones in the accident while we, as fans, mourn the passing of a motorsport icon. Colin McRae, you won't be forgotten.
badboy baza Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Two gentleman of thIS sport lost so early in there lives. Now all my hero's have been taken Senna, Richard and finally Colin and I can't see were the next one is coming from so sad. My thoughts are with the family to lose a husband is tragic but to lose a son as well is unthinkable. ALL WAYS REMEMBERED GOD BLESS.
cjk Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Taken me a couple of days to actually post something up.......heard about 5pm on Sat whilst at work that a helicopter had come down in Lanark,my heart sank then almost immediatly i said to myself ....naw it'll no be Colin!!!,I guess I thought he was just invincible.. Was nothing more exciting than standing in a forest somewhere waiting for him to come through,6R4...that awsome Mk2 whatever the hell he was in he just drove the t!ts off it. Well done for yesterday to all those concerned for the drive by. Been sitting reading all the forums over the last few days most of the time with tears welling up,trying desperately to hide my coupon from her an' the kids .. Uncomprehendible to think what the rest of the family(s) are going through.. anyway..... cheers for the memories and inspiration Colin, you look after that wee laddie up there. Col
Rossibarr Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I never got the chance to meet him, wish i had. I was hooked as a fan of his ever since seeing Colin thrash that impreza through the forest. I bought my first Impreza 5 years ago, Number 62 Series Mcrae. The fact it had his name on it made the sale, and now the proud owner of my second Series Mcrae. He was my hero, can't believe the greatest rally champion ever is gone. He was one of the Greatest Scots, a credit to our nation. A special man with extaordinary talent. My heart goes out to his family, and the families of all who died. Rest in Peace Colin : Always a hero
jamesm Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 A terribly sad day and the loss of a true hero. Colin McRae is the reason I have a Subaru. I remember being taken to rallies by my Dad when I was a kid in the mid 80s and by the late 80s I knew who the drivers were, and by that time McRae was coming though the British championship in his Nova, onto the Cossies and then a funny Japanese car I had never heard of! Two memories, firstly the 1993 RAC when I somehow managed to convince my Dad to take me to Kielder (on a school day as well). We battled through the snow in his Montego with the broken heater, got stuck in the car park and spent all day in the cold. I can still remember the disappointment when we discovered he had gone out on the stage before. Then by contrast, 1995. The electric atmosphere in Kielder and the place just went wild at the first faint bark of a Subaru exhaust in the distance. I have experienced nothing like it again. From that moment I wanted a Subaru! There was something special when McRae was competing on a rally. There was a buzz you just didn't get normally. He was an inspiration and for many, Colin McRae was rallying. My interest in rallying certainly in no small part stems from McRae. My heart goes out to the families of all those involved, lets not forget there were four people involved in this tragedy. An incredibly sad day.
phil Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 Information for those attending Rally Day, Castle Combe 22nd September Colin McRae Tragedy In light of the terrible news of the loss of Colin McRae, his son Johnny and two other family friends, the organisers of Rallyday will be asking everybody attending the event this Saturday to observe a one minute silence at 12:00 as a mark of respect.
dan_jess Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Deepest sympathy to all families involved RIP Our Hero and Legend
cupradave Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 (edited) Really dont know what to say, I am totally stunned. Colin has been an inspiration to me my entire driving life and as with others here, iss partly behind the reason for me buying a Impreza. I was lucky enough to meet Colin, all be it briefly, only this year when he competed in the RBS Manx Rally in his Mk2 Escort, although I had seen him compete many times before. My thoughts are with the McRae family for their tragic loss, along with the two other families mourning their losses also. Colin you are a truly irreplaceable motorsport icon and hero. ali__ Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Deepest sympathies to all involved in this horrific accident. A truly tragic loss of an outstanding hero
johns Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Colin was such an inspiration to so many of us for many years, it is hard to put into words just how much he was loved by so many of us. His abundant natural talent behind the wheel and his determination to win, not just compete, was obvious to anyone fortunate to witness him in action. I feel honoured to have watched Colin complete in many rallies throughout his career - from the early events in Scotland, to a WRC event in Perth Australia, and most recently on the WRC event in Catalunya a few years ago. The world has lost one of it's True legends, and is today a much sadder and lonlier place. You will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends you leave behind. Rest In Peace Colin John
