  1. ...and after
  2. Hi Guys, I need a bit of advice from y'all.....I got hold of a new front grill for the car, one that I have been after for ages to help airflow into the radiator. Only problem is it comes with a Pink badge, and with mine not being a Sti - I don't want the bring on the the wrath of the gods for trying to impersonate one and make the car look like something it aint - but its getting there slowly I took some pics, do you reckon I'd get away with it? Before...

Hello matey, def not me, closest I get to Didcot is the Peartree roundabout north of oxford.
  9. ..wagon is a must have, the 4 door's aint the real thing
  10. Ah cool, I'll drop him a line tonight see when he can fit me in, it should give me time to insulate all my pipework and reduce the charge temps too. A little while ago you mentioned for me to feel both sides of the intercooler pipes after a run, did it today after a lively jaunt to work. The turbo out pipe was warm to say the least whereas the throttle body in pipe was stone cold, seems like the IC is doing its job I have the MAF in the garage now, do you still want the conical filter bracket that connection to the shroud I popped round? it comes with a shiny cover for the MAF too Whats a good night to catch you in this week old bean ? Cheers, Col
  11. Hi Iain, thats a good bit of work done on his car by the sounds of the final result Did he get the final figures at the time of the mapping? I'll have to speak to Bob and see if there are any logs that he has that may indicate the results.
  12. Hi Iain, I didn't get a final torque/power reading on the day, Bob did mention he could use a GTech Pro device to give an indicated set of figures but forgot to ask at the time about it, but by the time we got back after the mapping it was 1120, my slot was up at 1130 and the next guy was already there waiting to get some work done on his car. It took a little while to get the car set up and all the preparations made to make the car ready to go. I could take it to a RR but its knowing who to trust not to blow up the car. The problem, or perhaps not, is that the map was done live on the road rather than on a RR with a bloody great fan on it so the figures may come out better or worse? If you fancy we could meet up somewhere for a wee drive, see what you think of the work done so far. I'm going to position the high/low map switch tonight, the AL switch is still sitting on the seat looking for a quiet place to hide it. The AL does make a few pops and isn't the quietest thing to fire up in the neighborhood so I'll give it a good run/test tomorrow on the way to work. With the missus in the car, I don't think she'd appreciate running with AL as much as me Took the car on a good run today, sitting at 60/70 on a good road surface, you can now have a conversation that doesn't involve shouting anymore - happy days Cheers, Col
  13. Any time Matty it would be good to get a second opinion
  14. Bloody hell he ought to be done for dangerous driving at the very least, idiots like that should not be allowed to carry on driving. I hope the police give him a right good going over.
  15. Bit of an update, finally got all my planned work completed today The car was in this week getting the coilovers fitted, set and the initial 4 wheel alignment done too. My old shocks were totally pooped and pretty much resting on the end stops which explains why my shocks sounded like they were constantly crashing. Now that the new ones are in, its made the car sooo much comfier to drive now. The dampening has been set to 15/15 out a possible 30 click stop positions so a bit of fine tuning needed there - but it does drive like a go kart now The ride is it almost there, but the rears have dropped a wee bit more so need to be raised over the coming week or so. I had the downpipe and centre section fitted (second one ) fitted on thursday morning. I was slowly running of time to get the pipes sorted and on wednesday morning I was told that the centre section piece I had to use was 6 inches too short my fault for not checking I had the correct pipe for the model, oops. The guys at Cotswolds ordered me a centre section for a P1, now I was expecting the exhaust to be a complete ear bending and bleeding experience and so armed with the thought of having to buy a bung for the backbox. As it happens the new section appears to have two small or one large baffle/silencers which I didnt expect but upon driving the car the exhaust note has dropped lower but the overall noise is far reduced - absolute bloody bargain - I should now regain my hearing There is another upside to this is that now the turbo appears to spin up a lot quicker and the sound it makes is far louder than previously, so you can here it spool up and down and what also appears to be a small ammount of 'chatter' as boost is released - oh happy days. I spent thursday night, after work, taking the air filter heat shield off to cut it so that the last remaining two pipes could be fitted, I ran out of time to fit the pipes as it was around 11pm when I finally finished drilling/sawing/filing etc so no time to fit the pipes. Friday night, the night before the remap, I spent a good few hours getting the two remaining pipes onto the intercooler as it was a tight fit (insert bad language and skinless knuckles here), finally finished around 9pm and took it for a spin...went out towards minster lovell past the new estate taking it easy. As it was rather chilly and this was the first time the FMIC was used on the car, everything was going well, increasing the boost in small stages gave no issues so on the return trip along the same stretch of road I gave it a bit of a blip to see it on full boost. I know I shouldn't have done it without a remap or the MAF removed but what harm would come? As soon as the load pedal was pressed boost built up and then bang, cough, splutter, sudden deceleration and the instrument panel imitating a christmas tree - bugger!@@!!@!!! I had forgotten to tight one clip that held one of the bottom pipes on, so it felt the need to separate from the FMIC altogether. Hazards on and armed with nothing but the screwy stick and in failing light struggled to refit the bloody thing back on again. As I was sitting there Matty was driving by and stopped to offer some help but there was nothing to do and I was done almost a minute after he left ( thanks Matty ). Saturday morning, up way too early I was out redoing all the clips for all the pipework, self confidence in my work at an all time low and really considering not doing the mapping with Bob with the fear that the pipes would blow off again or the engine would go instead Took and easy drive to Swindon, with the events of the night before I expected the car to play up with a dodgy MAF but all was fine so I ended up listening to the turbo spool up and down (sad I know ) all the way there. Got to Bobs house and was ushered into his garage. Lots of it was attached to the car, secondary boost gauge, knock sensor, wideband O2 sensor and a multitude of laptops and wires. Off came the MAF and replaced with a silicone pipe. Took the car for a steady drive along some roads, and spent an hour or so adjusting the basic map at certain boost points whilst listening for predet with his headphones and detcans With this done the second map could be done with ease knowing the settings were correct. The final outcome is that I have a .8/.9 Bar map for normal driving, however the poor wee car could only produce 1.2 Bar on the higher map, but this is all a Brucy bonus. The car finally clocked into 200,000 miles as we mapped, so with an aging engine and turbo, I don't think this is too bad a result Many thanks to Iain for the help and advice and the FMIC install and to the guys and Cotswolds for the help and work put in to get this ready. I don't know if Bob will read this, but many thanks Bob - he's a rather knowledgeable chap on this subject and very helpful to boot, I had loads of noobie questions for him and all were answered with ease. Enough ramblings for me for one night, time to plan the next lot of work...
  16. Did a bit of digging at the RAC site for number plate checks and it came back as an AUDI A4 S LINE FSI AUTO. I did the same at Autotrader and it reported the same model and spec of car too. Just to be sure I checked MyCarCheck.com site it also added it was a convertible. I hope this helps. Cheers, Colin
  17. Hi Mark, I saw a grey Audi cab bombing along Minster road going in the direction of Minster Lovell just before the A40 junction at 5pm on my way back from Old Minster Lovell, the number plate was either X4PCG or X4PGC. I remember seeing this post as it came through on my phone earlier in the afternoon and then on the way home I see this Audi with X4 as part of the plate. There cant be two X4 plated Audi's exactly the same model around here can there? Hope this helps, Colin

  19. Spotted/passed coming down to the centre of the universe that is Carterton, at the traffic lights I was just coming back from Cotswold's after having the suspension and new pipe work fitted... Spotted the same chap, or at least a dark blue new age with a big burbly exhaust along the same stretch of road chasing the ice cream man, but the ice cream man made off and turned down our street
  20. Yup got my vote too - lovely looking car
