  3. I was hoping to avoid taking it to a garage right before xmas and hoping it may be something that i could replace myself, going on what i have described would it be worth changing the thermostat? is there a test i can do on the one i take out to see if thats the problem? i will more than likely get it to a garage after xmas if i can't solve it myself.

Any ideas on the interior fans? what to check/replace?

Stick your thermostat in a cup of boiling hot water and see if it opens and if your getting a burning smell from your fan have you checked to see if the fan is turning freely and not siezed up

  4. any ideas how much a remap is for 95 ron fuel and wheres the best place to have this done?? Im assuming that around the 300bhp mark will be the safe limit for regular unleaded.

http://andyforrestperformance.co.uk/16280.html.He's just outside edinburgh .Here a link to ecutek this is the software Prodrive use to map Prodrive performance packs for the newage imprezas.Andy will tell you what sort of power you will get on a 95 ron remap .

  5. There was a program on tv that tested all the main octaine boosters o. A number of cars in lab conditions, one of the cars being tested was a 2005 sti. The short of the story was none of the octain boosters made any difference to standard fuels. The conclusion of the tests was no increase on bhp figures and no performance gains. Waste your money if your that way inclined.

It was fifth gear and they never tested NF octane booster and any of the millers octane booster's .Just the stuff you see in halfords and to the main poster regards the 2.5 in the uk/euro Sti having a bad rep for problems best bet to remap for using lower octane fuel

  6. 8. welcome along.

regards engine it pretty much depends on budget and how modified you want to go.

the short blocks are pretty much interchangable through out the years. if you are intending track work then some early stis/ra had closed deck blocks but then newages have stronger rods. if its second hand newage take note if it had twin scroll turbo as sump is different but only needs swapping over. The sump is different on twin scroll turbo's 03 Jdm Sti onwards because of equal length headers

if you are changing for a long engine then it gets more tricky as different age heads use related manifolds. Can be done but then you have to modify wiring loom as manifold sensors vary etc.

im sure some of the more technical folk will be able to answer your questions a lot better when the time comes though.
