Welcome WRXMANIA aka Brian to the Moderating Team
john_robertson replied to phil's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Congrats mate, suppose its only fitting considering you were one of the reasons Scottish Scoobies was set up you drunken hooligan John -
I dont think it is the one you are thinking about, the car from Swifts aka Xtreme is white with a black/carbon boot and bonnet IIRC, the one you are thinking about sits in B'gate a lot and has an Extreme sticker on it, if memory serves me right that has had work done by Star Performance. Xtreme's car is much quicker, last time I seen it it was running circa 450BHP with anti-lag, remote wastegate etc it also runs Autronic management and was mapped by Mark Shead of MA developments. Last time I was talking to the lads in Xtreme they were planning more for this year, looking at circa 600BHP+ but they were worried about the EVO's AYC and such like giving them grief so were planning on ripping it out. John.

Go for the brakes, Goodridge lines Dot 5.1 and some different pads should sort you out, or if you feel like being flush track down some second hand STi ones. Take it you've had the geometry done? Next step for power you've got to be looking at the headers, either getting your originals ported etc or going for a set of aftermarket ones, either way theres a good chance you'll need a re-map to get the best out of them. John.

As Stephen said you pay your money you get what you have paid for, I'm not knocking the items you've listed but generally you'll find these will be made out of a lighter spec material than the originals. On the plus side you get the lower brace which I believe makes the most improvement. John

Not being cheeky here mate, but if you feel you aren't getting the best out of the car it might be worthwhile doing a day ot two advanced driver training, I know of people who done this at Crail with some guy and they said it was money well spent, you do it in your car with the guy sitting alongside you. John.

As has been said by Gumball, make sure the tyres are decent and and in good nick, at the end of the day the tyres are your contact with the surface and if they're poor quality or in bad shape it wont really matter too much how much cash you throw at the rest of the set-up. Personnal choice - Prodrive Springs, they didn't spend a year developing them for nowt you know, even though they are made by Eibach they are not the same. The TEIN gear is top notch stuff but how are you using the car? trackdays etc well go with the TEIN if not why harshen the day to day ride quality? Droplinks, most people just go with the rear units, either whiteline or for some more cash try the powerflex items, IIRC the STi has solid front droplinks anyway so there wont be too much advantage to upgrading. Strut Braces, how hard do you plan on driving the car? once again if your doing trackdays etc you might feel the advantage of one of these if not why throw the cash out on one, the newage shells are very stiff from the factory IIRC somewhere in the region of 200% stiffer than a classic. Also it used to be that some Ins Co's hated strutbraces with a vengance due to the fact it can turn a small amount of damage into a major amount as they tend to transfer the force in an accident very well. Geometry Settings, very worthwhile, make sure the person doing it knows what they are doing and how to read the machine otherwise it is very possible your car will be worse. John.

Was it a Coupe per chance? there was a black Opel coupe turbo tring to show off at the Shell garage in W'Burn the other day, almost p'ed myself laughing when he nearly stalled.

Personnally don't think there is a requirement for the induction kit unless your are planning on going above 330bhp, might be worth re-directling the cash put aside for that and getting a set of OEM headers ported and lagged, these would help maintain the torque spread and get a nice increase also. I believe Harvey does them on an exchange basis. John.

Deffo get your tracking/alignment done by somebody that knows what their doing, not just the local Kwik-Fit, the dealer done mine after getting the Prodrive springs fitted, the car felt weird, turned better one way than the other, found out that the camber was everywhere when I got Extreme to check, basically one wheel was maxed out neg camber and the other was slightly positive the rear wasn't much better, the car felt totally different afterwards, much more turn in grip for one. John.

<< I just noticed today as well that the one on the road from Bathgate to Uphall is now a JET. CURSES! I was going to make that my new station of choice as well. >> IIRC thats been a JET for a while now, there are two Shell in Whitburn, one up the far end of the main street as if you were heading to Harthill and the other is on the road to Armadale just under the M8. The TT o1 chassic has been about for a couple of years now IIRC, Tamiya just keep modifying the parts to make it more suitable for different kits. The good thing is that you should have little or no problem finding spares/upgrades, nice to see it has been supplied with the CVA shocks and a motor heat sink, are the CVA shocks the oil filled versions? A little tip for the bodyshell, to round the arches nicely use some sandpaper and either tape it or stick it to a drinks/deodarant can etc ( basically what fits the wheel arch best) then use that to round off the arches as any strange shapes tend to end up as weak points, also you can get extra foam pads for the front bumper, use these to fill out to where the shell sits and it should help to make the shell last a little longer. Credit card alert http://www.modelsport.co.uk/ http://www.apexmodels.com/ DMS Racing Upgrade heaven I've used all of these guys in the past and the service is generally really good i.e.48hrs max John. -

Having a laugh at my insurance quotes
john_robertson replied to bigbadboab's topic in Scottish Scoobies
£600' ish IIRC for me and the Mrs also declared my small amount of mods. Remember the quotes can vary massively depending on postcode and occupation, but then again sometimes I think some companies just don't want you on their books, I've been quoted almost 2K in the past from companies that could supposedly do me a "great" deal. John. -
