  1. I seriously cannot imagine people getting "confused" between the 2 sites. As most people come through SIDC anyways.

My site doesn't mention anything about the money you have raised for charity or events you have held to do so - My stickers etc look nothing like the SIDC ones either

I always come here via www.scottishscoobies.com personally.

Was trying to think of a way you could have a notice on your home page linking to here as a "did you mean" type link, but without it making yours look "odd" IYKWIM. Personally I just think the names are too close not for it to cause some kind of confusion to people who aren't already in the know.

Also think that there are already a lot of clubs around for scoobies without having yet another one (but maybe that's just me), seems to be every now and then someone sets up another one. Although there isn't a forum setup, I believe that http://www.morayscoobies.co.uk/ is already in place for Moray, there is an Aberdeenscoobies forum, 22b.com, P1woc, RB owners clubs, WR1, SN, etc, etc... and in general the same people are on them all. Would have thought that a local region one, SIDC and SN was probably as many as were really needed... again just my opinion.

  2. still looks like a pimped Mondeo

I think ditching the triangular fog lights would help that alot... because the rest of it looks fantastic

Yup, lose the fogs... but also I think the lights on the front look too "weedy" now too... need to be bigger and the front end needs to be a bit more "aggressive" now to go with the wider look too IMO.

  3. Sounds like a memorable trip, Iain - can't beat the irresistible cocktail of empty roads and good weather! I've driven the Oban to Fort William route before (and on to Invershneck'ee) - was very nice if I remember rightly. Need to get up there again soon.

Shame that so many drivers don't seem too well-informed on country road etiquette, i.e. leaving gaps in the traffic for overtakers, pulling over to let folks past... I try not to let these things annoy me, but they can sometimes spoil an otherwise enjoyable drive.

Yeah, if anything, one of the cars that I did manage to pass tried to pull over on me as I was passing him, almost as if he was trying to stop me passing.

They are good roads though as and when they are empty though, just a shame that the limits are so low on them as some of them are in such good condition, with limited numbers of junctions or cars/animals about IYKWIM... seemed such a shame to be sat at the limit so long ;):)

  4. That's interesting, Iain. I almost went up to Oban at the weekend, but had last minute change of mind when realised I couldn't quite take the petrol costs (there's always too much month left at the end of my wages!). Ended up having a short scoot around the Trossachs instead, which was great fun - but I could've happily stayed out longer :P

Did you drive the A816 Oban to Lochgilphead during your travels? Just asking because that's the road I thought about taking on Sunday (the A85 being the route that most folks from around here would opt for). I drove the A816 once before about four years ago, but I remember very little of it - was driving my mum's car and had a bit of a hangover, so conditions weren't really ideal for enthusiastic driving! Kind of funny, looking back on it - I remember insisting on driving after a few miles of the old dear being at the wheel - the way she was taking the corners was giving me (and the other passengers) the utter heave - fast in, slow out, two whole gears too high, etc... woe... :);)

I know the feeling about too much month left B)

We took the A96 to Huntly, then across to Dufftown, down to Aviemore and Kingussie/Newtonmore over to Spean Bridge, Fort William and down to Oban. The roads going down early Saturday morning were great, not much on the road so was able to make good progress, way back was fine until we got onto the narrower roads and a queue of half a dozen cars who all insisted on sitting right in the middle of the road, even when I was sitting right over to the left indicator going... wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the 40-50mph limit they seemed to have. A few short sections with white lines showing them where the middle of the road actually was, was enough for me to get by though :P

400-odd miles though over the weekend. Have done the roads down to lochgilphead and campbeltown about 13yrs ago in an old Pug GTi which was quite good fun though :D Not been down that way much since though.

  5. You know the best solution to the paintwork blues?

Take yer Scooby for a rip down a nice B-road and remember why you bought it in the first place, and how these cosmetic woes make eff-all difference to how much fun it is to drive ;)

Definitely... took mine down to Oban for the weekend just past... some of the roads there and back were pretty good (although getting better than 95RON down there is a bit of a challenge).

  6. forget the smaller detail, i gave up on worrying about small dinks and chips a long time ago, especially if your car is a daily driver.

Yup, me too... lost count of the small scratches/dings on the car now... gave up worrying about them. If I'd have put it in to get seen to everytime one happened it would have never been out of a garage getting resprayed, etc.

I tend to find keeping it dirty helps hide them anyway ;)

  7. Nice car, shame about the processing. There's no talent in the work done on these shots in my opinion, the actual photos themselves are pretty good, but are spoiled by the work done on them. HDR is a piece of cake, and it's so easy to go over the top with it (as shown in these photos), but if done properly HDR can look pretty amazing.

Not my cup of tea, sorry.

Actually, a lot of the HDR stuff looks just odd to me, but the third pic posted above is pretty good looking to me. I think it depends on what the image is of, it's entirely possible that the third pic wouldn't look as good as the HDR'd version (although of the ones I've seen, you generally need a decent initial pic/pics to get a decent HDR shot).

  8. Can anyone tell me if there are any issue with fitting an APS CAI on a hawkyeye STI? Do they rattle due to tighter space in inner wing?

Also what else do i need to fit the CAI? Do i need to replace the plastic tube it fits on to etc? If i do what and where do i buy the parts?

    cheers

    Chris

Not heard any rattling on my one (70mm APS one). Took a bit of manhandling to get it in though, I didn't need to replace anything that didn't come in the kit when I did mine.

  9. Don't know how true it was, but I'm sure I heard someone mention on one of the subaru boards, that there were insurers taking peoples cash for a traders policy, then when (if) you had a claim, they'd then ask to see your "books" to prove you were actually a trader... no books, no payout, so technically you weren't insured.

Like I say, it might just have been to put people off taking out a policy like that though.

Can't understand why you cannot have a policy that has a number of cars on it though, as you can only drive the one car at any point in time... so if you have 4 cars, base the insurance cost on the most expensive one to insure, then add £100 or so to the policy to add other cars to it.

I looked into a multicar policy one time before, supposedly it would save you money... well for a Leon Cupra TDi, V8i Discovery and the STi, I was going to be in excess of £500 DEARER on the multicar policy, than I was insuring them all seperately... so much for a saving... in fact I could have had another scoob and insured it seperately and probably STILL have been cheaper than the three on the multicar policy :(

  10. If by retainer, you mean the part that you plug the belt into, then you could always buy an adaptor (ratchet buckle?) that will help shorten the length of belt that's available. I used one on my classic and it meant that the baby seat we had at the time was ROCK SOLID when belted in.

  11. I think if I'd never got started with AWD, then probably a Mini (like a couple of mates have), or possibly still a Pug GTi or Seat Cupra R even, as a cheaper option... money no object... thats a tough one... possibly the 911 Turbo or new Nissan GTR... as nice as the Ferrari's and Lambos go, I couldn't see myself driving one as an everyday car... Veyron maybe though or McF1 :boldblue:

  12. D'oh! Time for a mni thread tangent methinks :boldblue:

There was a mini film / pilot episode release last year in the US which resulted in a series being made.. THe pilot was a good episode actually! Series started off well (ish) but took a sharp down turn as budget cuts set in which meant the series wen't really duff aroudn episode 10.. But has gotten good again after that, gone back to it's roots of what made the origonal a cult series!.. This 1st series has been cut a little short with only one Episode left I think (16 instead of 22 or something).. And no announcement yet as to whether or not it's gettign the chop or continues to a second series..

Oh.. and you probably haven't missed anythign as so far it's only been broadcast in teh Us

    http://knightrideronline.com/

If you can find a "download" of the episodes it's worht the watch... But don't get turned off with some of the poor episodes mid series.. It picks up!!

Hmmm... not seen that... last time I seen anything related to Knight Rider, it was an episode of Knight rider 2000 (?) and it was a red car (honestly can't think what it was)... not seen/heard of the black mustang though. Mind you... how does the series manage without "The Hoff" :P

  13. If I had the dosh I would go for this family car! :P

    08-rs6-avant-r1.jpgAudi Rs6 Avant 76k Ouch :P

    4WD, 572BHP, big boot, not a BMW.

    Cheers :boldblue:

Had an S6 Avant before (4.2 V8), and although it was nippy, it was crap on back roads... too nose heavy, plus I didn't get on with the semi auto gearbox at all. The RS4 is meant to be better handling, and it's possible that the newer RS6/S6 is a lot better than the older ones as well.

  14. The Americans seem to favour cars of a German persuasion, how about you guys?

Personally, I've always quite fancied a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR.

Quite fancied an R33 version myself. Was actually a Corrado VR6 I was looking for before I bought the first scoob, but one test drive of the Turbo and I was hooked :P

Don't know what I'd pick right now if I was made to get shot of the STi and replace it with something else... theres not a lot else that can do everything it can (inc carrying a family of four plus luggage) for the money that it costs. Obviously you have things like RS4s and 911s (just squeeze the kids in :boldblue:) but they aren't yet at the prices that the scoobs are. I still seem to have the opinion (rightly or wrongly) that even Evos are more expensive to run long term (but that may be crap).
