  1. Very very sad news indeed. Paul was a much loved and respected member of the SIDC, and was well know for his involvement on the TDE events, the first Isle of Man event, numerous country runs both with Imprezas and Elises, and of course countless track events at Knockhill. Paul really did live life to the full, and he will be very sadly missed. RIP Paul. John
  2. There is a mutual recognition policy between most of the European countires, recognising each others training standards. If you do the basic (BOSIET with EBS) here, and get a medical done (must be a UKOOA registered doctor UKOOA doctors), then you'll be fine for travel offshore almost anywhere. If you are going to work permanently in Holland for example, then you would need to do an additional underwater escape training (with fixed windows in the HUET), but your employer would probably sponsor you for that. Given that there is a shortage of certain skills at the moment, then it's probably well worth while giving some agencies/employers a call, and if they are keen, then it's likely that they'll put you through the training. However, this might delay your start due to waiting times for courses, and if you had your own certs, then you could probably start a few weeks earlier. John
  3. I'm running DBA4000 with DS2500 pads on my STI/Brembo brakes. No issues at all, and much cheaper than OEM. John
  4. Wheels Around will look after your wheels and other bits and pieces whilst you are on track. Cheers John
  5. Despite what the local newspapers say, there doesn't seem to be much panic buying in Aberdeen. I filled up yesterday afternoon, and there weren't any queues (only two other cars in at the time). Filled up with 45 litres of Optimax at 98.9p/litre, which was a drop of 1p/litre over the previous fill-up (same petrol station). John
  6. About 50 cars in total. Haven't check the makes/models yet, but I would expect about 20 Imprezas, and the rest made up with Elises, Exiges, Caterfields and other exotica John
  7. It's 8am for arrival and safety briefing. 9am start with an open pit lane until 12pm finish. There will be an instructor available for use free of charge by those going on track. The event has been sold out for some time now, and we've now got a reserve list of 9 people! John
  8. There's loads of places which doe the offshore survival training. As well as RGIT, there's NUTEC, HOTA, Petans and others. The basic course lasts 2 1/2 days, most of which is spent in a classroom. Most people actually enjoy the course, as you get to play around in a swimming pool, play with fire (putting them out with a variety of techniques), and get dunked upside down in a helicopter simulator. With the helicopter underwater escape training (HUET), you start off just getting your feet wet before climbing out, before you get onto the immesrion, and finally they'll immerse you and turn you upside down before you escape. There's no risk, as the pool is full of divers and by now you are used to climbing out. Also these days, the training includes Emergency Rebreather System (EBS), which is a device that allows you to breathe for up to two minutes when immersed under water for added safety. All great fun! John
  9. Remember where you heard it first: Posted back in February!
  10. I'll be there tonight. See you all there. Map is at the top of the page. John

  12. I'll probably pop along during the day at some point to see how things are progressing. Little point in putting my standard car on the rollers though...
  13. OK everyone, lets re-schedule to Tuesday 13th September.
  14. How many people can make it tonight ? Might be worth cancelling, or re-scheduling until next week if it suits people better ? John
  15. Andy, request for profile update passed to the webbie's. John
  16. Well done Andy I'll have a word with the webmaster about your signature. What would you like it to read ? John
  17. PPP why not speak nicely to someone who ot the free PPP with their new WRX recently to see if they want to do a deal. Not everyone wants this (!!), as it increases their insurance premiums and the standard car is fast enough for them....
  18. Thanks for letting me know John
  19. Marc, I don't need the boot carpet, got a new one under warranty last year (original didn't fit right!) so fine for the moment. Boot liner would have been handy for the hiking boots etc. John
  20. Chris, I was looking forward to seeing your car going well on track . Perhaps next time... We can offer you a credit note towards a future event also if you wish, instead of selling it directly. I'll then sell your slot to someone on the reserve list. Please note that the price you paid is for SIDC members only, so if a non-member bought your slot, then they would have to pay the small difference on the day itself. Cheers John
  21. Marc, the car still looked good last night, despite losing some power John
  22. Will it fit the STi ?
  23. Old Mill Inn on the South Deeside Road. Starts at about 7:30pm. All welcome. See you there. John
  24. Anyone is more than welcome to come along on the day to watch and get passenger laps. Obviously, we do have to limit the places available on track, and I believe these have all sold out now. If anyone is interested in taking part, but hasn't booked via the on-line club shop please send me an email on john@sidc.co.uk (no PMs please - I keep all correspondance regarding each event in an email folder, and it's a real pain to copy details from PMs etc). The reserve list is quite short at the moment, so anyone interested has a reasonable chance of getting a place on track if they wish. Cheers John
  25. Chris, I'll email you the info pack for the event about a week beforehand (possibly 3 days if I'm very busy at work!), along with details of warm up groups etc. Much easier for me to email everything these days to those who have booked through the club shop. Then it's just a case of turning up with your drivers licence and completed indemnity forms (also emailled) on the Sunday morning, listen to the briefing and then off out on track John
