Several years ago I was selling my 1972 Clan Crusader which had a race engine and gearbox fitted, for any one who hasn't heard of Clan's they were a Hillman Imp based sports car and only several hundred were built/sold. These cars are always quite slow to sell as there is only a small amount of people who have actually heard of these cars and an even smaller amount of people looking to buy them, 99% of the time they are sold through the owners club. You've guessed it, the phone goes one night the agency guy is trying to tell me that they have several people in my area looking to buy a stutter stutter Clan Crusader ?? he was obviously just reading out my advert and had no idea what a Clan was and couldn't possibly have had anyone on his so called books looking for one. A definite SCAM !

<< tottally OT but when are the Sprints and hillclimbs starting? If you could PM or mail Id appreciate it Spooks >> OT again but dont get me talking about my past in sprints and hillclimbs, funnily enough it all ended abruptly when I got married and had the wee fella.

Thanks, I will try them in the morning.

Does anyone know of any decent dent removal firms in the Glasgow area ? My wife opened the door of our Clio right on to the door of the scoob, fortunately it hasn't damaged the paint but I am trying not to think about it too much.

<< Speak to the dealer to sort then get a set of decent Mcguard ones >> Halleys sorted it out for me this afternoon, great service. The service guy told me that they are Mcguard ones fitted so I have ordered another set. Does anyone know if we get a SIDC discount there yet ?

Cheers, I'll give it a bash in the morning

Thanks for the suggestion Phil do you think that I should play dumb and get them to do it under warranty or do you think I will end up footing a rather large bill.

I've ran into big problems whilst fitting my new STI wheels, after fitting two of the wheels I was removing the locking nut on the third wheel when the wheel brace (spider) slipped and snapped off half of the locking nut and destroyed the inside of the locking nut remover. Has anyone had any similar experiences and how did they get around them. My plan is to phone Halleys in the morning and see if they stock the correct locking wheel nut remover and fingers crossed that it will catch on what is left of the actual nut. In the mean time the scoob is in the garage with two silver wheels on one side and two gold on the other, what a nightmare !

Provisionally sold

I was going to keep these wheels as spares but if anyone is interested they can let me know. 2003 WRX wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tyres 2 Tyres have covered around 2000 miles and the other two around 13000 miles 3 of the wheels have very slight marks around the outer edge and the other one has been kerbed on the outer edge about 3 inches long. I was looking for £250 and I am based in Dumbarton.

Just a quick question on this, did STI's up to 2005 come with RE 040's as standard because I have been looking at several sets of gold STI wheels for sale with delivery mileage and they are fitted with RE 040's.

Plenty of scoobs at Braehead today, was it you ? I passed a silver bugeye on the way in, walked past a blue bugeye with after market wheels on the way back to my scoob and guess what when I got back ? a white classic RA parked nose to tail with mine. Excellent !!

Thanks for everyones views on this, I think I might just take a gamble on the RE 070's and keep my original wheels and RE 040's/ O50's that I was going to sell on to soften the blow of the new wheels and use them for the winter months.
-
Thats kind of what I thought was going to be said, I've been trying to persuade my wife that the brand new set of STI wheels and RE070's that I have seen for sale are a must buy, but I can see a problem if I tell her that you really need to change the tyres when the winter comes. I heard that they are okay in the wet but when there is standing water that is when you can have problems. Surely they must be reasonable in all conditions for Subaru to be supplying them on new STI's.
-
Is anyone using these tyres yet ? If so how do you find the wear rate etc.
-
Thanks for the info

Just checking if the above wheels will fit okay on my wrx. I see that they are a slightly wider rim size and a slightly different size tyre i.e 7.5 x 17 instead of 7 x 17 and 225 instead of 215.

<< I have Bridgestone Potenzas on mine and have just replaced the front pair. I think they are good IF THEY ARE THE CORRECT TYRE. Mine are RE-050 and specifically GZ pattern. My local supplier let me see the list of 215/45/ZR17 Bridgestone Potenza RE-050's and there were 16 varieties of that one tyre number in that one size. The GZ pattern for mine is specifically listed as Subaru Impreza WRX 2003 onwards. Many people seem to completely hate the cheaper Potenzas which are cheaper than the RE-050's - namely the RE-040 - the RE-040's seem to be terrible for tramlining and wet grip. The tyre fitter said that the 40's should, quote "NEVER be fitted to an Impreza - they were just not designed for it". Also, he said that whatever tyre you buy they must have the strengthened sidewall - can't remember the exact term he used but there was normal and toughened varieties of the same tyre in the same size with the same model number etc. Many owners seem to fit the RE-040s, and specifically dealers on used cars as they are maybe £25 per tyre cheaper than the RE-050. Loads of people seem to really rate the RE-070's too. This could be the answer to all my problems, a month after I bought my 2003 WRX (non Subaru garage) I had to return it as a result of them doing the geometry set up wrong it ruined a front pair of Potenza RE 050'S. They picked up the tab for a new pair of tyres and I told them I wanted them replaced with Bridgestones and they done this. However since then I have not been happy with the way the car drives, after reading this thread I checked the numbers on these tyres and what are they ? RE 040's. Will these be ok on the rear as I dont really want to replace them as they have only done a couple of thousand miles.

Whats YOUR favourite driving road?????
clan2_uk replied to the squiggle's topic in Scottish Scoobies
"Craignure - Laggan - Tobermory (via Dervaig) Isle of Mull" Great choice, I haven't had the scoob on it yet but I have driven it a few times when I've marshalled on the Tour of Mull rally and it is superb. -
I've seen this a couple of times myself in Dumbarton I'll need to do a bit of digging about to find out who drives it, it sounds lovely though.

Fair enough but this is bad news, quote from grasshopper "if clan doesn't want it then i'll be interested in it" . So what happens clan wants it and grasshopper gets it !!, grasshopper gave me my place in the first place then forgot about it later !!
-
Do I need to offer more cash now ?
-
The new estate as you come into Dumbarton, Mary Fisher Cres. Grasshopper did say if I didn't want it then he would.

Am I being gazumped here ? I definately want this and I could be through on Saturday afternoon or any other time to suit you as I am only in Dumbarton.
