I checked mine two weeks ago, 230 miles until the light came on. just over 23 mpg and that was with 140 miles of 70 mph motorway cruising.

Well, I've decided to test the market and have placed my WRX on Pistonheads. Its the first time that I've advertised a car that I really didn't want to sell, but the economics of having to use it for work purposes are causing me to head in this direction.
-
I've been having these thoughts for a while now. My latest cunning plan is to sell our two cars, buy a £10 K diesel family car (model undecided) and a 172 Clio Mk 1 or a Mk 2 Cup. But I just can't seem to part with the scoob.

I like the sound of that

I recommend this rally, I marshalled on it eight years in a row. Some people go camping but I always went for a comfy B & B in Tobermory booked a year in advance, the weather can be wild sometimes I've seen snow blizzards twice (yes in October). Half the fun is taking your own car as the single track roads are fantastic some scary drops at the side of the road right enough. Spectating is good on the Saturday daytime as they usually run the stages twice, although you need to take in some of the night stages as some of the commitment you see is unbelievable. Remember these roads are not exactly smooth so 75% of the time the cars spotlights are lighting up the sky ! I've not been since my family expanded but maybe next year.

I spoke to the dealer this morning, they think it might be the hydraulic tappets sticking maybe caused by short journeys and low mileage. They have suggested that I leave it with them overnight and it may be a case of using an engine flush to sort it out. What do you think ? It was serviced in April about 4K miles ago.
-
Although it pains me to say it, I have to agree
-
"This should not be confused with a ticking/tappet type noise which is common on all Impreza engines , " Thats what it sounds like to me, but I am no expert. I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this with a new age.
-
Do you think so ? Its been bugging me lately, I thought it was just me being paranoid but there is definately a noise until it is well warmed up. I will add that it has always been driven carefully when the engine was cold.
-
When I start my WRX engine from cold it has now started to sound like an old tappety ford engine (not quite as bad). The oil level is fine and the noise disappears after about ten minutes, the oil I use is the dealer supplied 10W 40 semi synthetic. Is this anything to worry about, it has covered 17 K miles and is still under warranty.

Thanks, I'm in Dumbarton, I will wait until it has been delivered and I can check that it is ISO terminated then I will give you a shout. Where are you from ?
-
Thanks for the info, hopefully the head unit I bought is ISO terminated as I didn't think to ask this.
-
I have just bought an Alpine 9853R head unit and I was looking for a bit of advice, my question is, do I need to buy one of those iso adaptors or will it be wired like for like ?
-
I'm not one of those guys that is hooked on car stereo's etc, but do you not think that the quality in Subarus is pure crap ? I recently decided to keep my stereo for the time being at least and thought I would get myself one of those adaptors that goes into the cassette part and it lets you play your ipod through the car speakers. What happens when you push the tape into the stereo on the scoob, it pushes it straight back out again, it works perfectly in my wifes Clio and no doubt in every other car. I had previously bought one of those FM transmitter things and it turned out to be more hassle than it was worth. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I think I know the tuner you are talking about but I always thought he had a good knowledge of these things. The last time I spoke to Graham he had just got a new exhaust fitted and he was well pleased. He was doing the quarter mile stuff at crail but I am not sure if he is still doing that.

I seen you (I mean heard you) driving along Glasgow Road in Dumbarton East, it sounded real good ! I know the guy who has the blue X reg RA in the Vale and I had a run in it a while back, it went really well.
-
Not sure if I've seen you around, I remember seeing a white RA a while back is that you ?
-
<< Clan do you drive an Sti lookalike? I know where you stay but don't know/ ever seen the car. Who's the lad with the EVO in your estate? >> Yes my car has STI wheels and a rallytech rear spoiler, I know the evo that you are talking about but he is in the next estate down the road from me. At the moment I cant remember his name.
-
I've not seen that one before in Dumbarton, just out of interest Ken are you a fellow Dumbarton scoob pilot ?
-
As I have decided to keep my scoob for at least another year, does anyone know of any one that does the prodrive settings in the Glasgow area.
-
I think I will try the autotrader for a couple of weeks maybe around £13K and see if there is any interest, I'm not holding out much hope right enough but its probably worth £39.

I have been toying with the idea of selling my scoob (2003 WRX, UK car, 15000 miles with a couple of extras) and going for an A4 diesel or a new model Golf GT TDI as a change of job now means I will need to use my car during the day. Two dealers later and both told me that they would have to phone me the next day with a valuation because they just wouldn't sell a Subaru on their forecourt. Then the phone calls came in, both between £10000 and £10500 !! yes for a 2 year old car. A phone call to a Subaru dealer later and "yes that is about the right price although we would probably retail it for about £14500." Apparently for a few months a WRX was losing £700 a month. I am now totally pxxxed off and looking at different options of what to do now and this includes never buying another Subaru.
-
Is their any sign of this happening yet ? My car is in tomorrow for its 2 year/ 20K mile service.

clan2_uk replied to fraser_drinkwater's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Count me in, this could be my first meet. If its still on ! -
<< just got my sti8 na53--- in blue. Had prodrive springs fitted. Going to Grearsport in the morning to get the camber & tracking. Out of interest do Grearsport do prodrive settings or is it their own, also could you give a rough price on what they charged you (PM if you prefer).
