Could be good news. I have to travel to Carlisle at the moment, although Stan Palmers down there are excellent. Are they going to be Subaru only or continue with the Vauxhalls as well at James Haugh? I wouldn't be too sure about letting a Vauxhall mechanic loose on my modded Subaru.

I've heard that induction kits can be a bad idea unless you're having the car remapped to suit. Even then they are unecessary unless your are running more than 350bhp. A panel filter might be a better idea. The centre decat won't give you any problems. []

I've heard the drilling companies are looking for people. This was a guy from KCA Deutag. No set qualifications required to start as a roustabout. I know Aker Kvaerner have been taking on trainees on the production side of the industry (process ops, elec techs, mech techs and inst techs). An NVQ in your trade helps, as will an HNC. The companies prefer a recommendation from someone they already know. I understand how difficult it is to get a start. I had a lot of CVs ignored and failed interviews before I finally got a job. I had a similar problem with my 52 plate WRX. Judging by the e-mail you have, the "roasted" sensor would appear to be the up pipe EGT sensor and this has brought on your CEL. Do you know if your up pipe is decat as well as your down pipe? When I de catted my up pipe this sensor was removed to prevent the possibility of it breaking up and damaging my turbo as it was no longer serving its purpose; i.e. sensing the catalytic converter temperature. The downside of this was that the CEL light kept coming on. I carried out the fix described in your e-mail and the CEL reset. It basically fools the engine management chip into believing the up pipe exhaust gas temperature is healthy. This causes no risk whatsoever to the car and the CEL light will still function if any other fault appears on the car. If you're up pipe is the original item with catalytic converter, I would think about getting a replacement sensor as it has a job to do! I'm not sure how much these cost (not a fortune). Ask the guys at AWD in Perth. They are the experts. This fix should not be confused with the down pipe CEL fixes which are available and which are unnecessary with a remap. These are for "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold", this code being caused by the lack of a catalytic converter in the downpipe. Hope this is some help. []

Your car sounds cool Cal. I've got a similar set up with an HKS dump valve. I've never heard mine from outside! I think it's time to let a mate loose in it to check it out.

Just thought I'd post a thank you to AWD Motorsport in Perth. Very friendly guys in there did a great job on my car, a 2002 WRX. The car was standard apart from prodrive springs, PFF7s, WR Sport back box, uprated pads all round, Goodridge hoses and some cosmetic stuff. AWD fitted this little lot for me. The handling is vastly improved, even over the prodrive springs, which made a big difference. I haven't had it on the rollers yet, so I can't quote figures. It pulls like a train now from about 2500rpm all the way to the red line. I can't stop smiling. I'm hoping to get the car on a rolling road in the next couple of months.
