About infiltrator2

  1. You haven't changed or topped up the oil recently have you? Too much oil can cause vapour to get into the boost solenoid. Mine did this when I bought it, garage did an oil change before I got it and put in maybe half a litre too much. When accelerating hard, when it cut out it was like hitting a wall, then it would quickly clear and it was fine then.
  2. Hi Alan, sat down with my better half to discuss and she's convinced me to keep the wagon for the moment. Apologies, didn't think she'd have such a strong opinion on this. As a bit of a p.s. - read earlier that you were looking to lug around mbk's, have you considered a GTB? I had a 97 manual car and they were real Q cars with loads of space and very quick (scare the STi) on the 2nd turbo.
  3. Hi Alan, haven't gone AWOL, unfortunately been away at a family funeral till today - no internet access. Bad bits - the biggest problem I suspect is that you're after a car pretty quickly. I had intended to get the car ready for sale through the winter, to get it back to A1 condition it needs; 1) New JUN type splitter (might go for the AUS downforce one though) 2) Tyres for MOT (one was badly grooved when the front Bilstein strut collapsed - hence the new KYB/Eibach stuff) 3) Scratch touched up - some tw4t scratched it the first week I owned it, 8 yrs ago, right from the back door drivers side to the rear qtr on the pass side. I touched up wth a stick when it happened with the intent of sorting but I've never got round to it. The photos above are with the scratch so as you can see it isn't that obvious but it still needs sorted. When I get it painted I'd probably get the bonnet done as there's a few (not many) stone chips. I'm still torn as to whether to sell it or fit a 500bhp lump instead - this is where I was at last summer and then it went on the RR and surprised everybody with 326bhp @ 7500 rpm. I do believe this is pretty genuine as there were a number of STi9's and new UK STi's that were producing pretty much the book power (290-310bhp) After this it didn't seem a good idea to rip out such a strong basically standard engine. Pricewise - back at A1 condition I'd be after £5.5k with the 18" OZ's, £5k with the 16" wheels - bear in mind the work above is probably £800'ish plus it's never been on the road since the following new parts were fitted, KYB's/Eibachs £500, new s/s 3" d/p £150, new front grooved drilled discs/pads £100. Realise you've an issue with the service history but that's up to you really - service history isn't something I place a lot of value on, I've seen some 5hit servicing by trained monkeys in my time, hence the reason I service all my cars myself.
  4. Hi Alan, I'm considering selling my Sti wagon, but it's a V3 1998 car and I've maintained it myself - wouldn't let a garage near it.. I've owned it 8 yrs now since 10k miles, now done 49k miles, standard except for full decat and K&N, managed 326bhp @ 7,500 rpm last year at the SIDC day. 3rd most powerful out of the 20 cars in attendance, stunned everyone incl me and the chap who owned the RR:) Engine never been touched other than regular service, only change since RR day is an open neck stainless d/p. Replaced suspension last year with KYB's and eibachs and it's never been on the road since, took of the road for winter (had a GTB) and now got a car through my work. Car was imported bt the boss of the RAC in early 98, apparently SVA'd by Prodrive (RAC boss and Dave Richards were good friends) and then sold to an elderly chap near Edinburgh as part of his collection. Cars in Aberdeenshire, let me know if you're interested and I'll give some thought to selling it.
  5. Spectating today as my V3 Sti hasn't come out of storage since last winter[:|] Weather was somewhat damp, track action was good, few unfortunate off's - Carl's spin was impressive. One thing I noted was that the Evo's were much quicker at getting the power down out of the corners, the scoobs that tried this ended up with lots of opposite lock and having to back off. The Mini with the VTec engine looked bloody frightening.....but good fun Any of the cars on the track today running serious (350bhp+) power?
  6. see the scoobynet thread - a few folks know his name now:)
  7. Always done my own servicing, mech tech by trade so I wouldn't let any garage near it - at least I know the work is done properly:) Being honest, it's never missed a beat in the 8 yrs I've had it, biggest job was the cambelt or replacing the suspension. Just north of Aberdeen, bit of a trek to the borders I'm afraid. I'm in no panic to sell, I've actually got my GTB up for sale just now, if that goes the STi will probably venture out of the garage and get tidied up ready for sale. If anyone is genuinely interested I'll happily take more pictures - might also consider letting it go a bit cheaper without doing the work I had planned. p.s. have you ever thought about a Legacy GTB? - the extra room is a godsend with bairns and it's bl00dy quick, not as manic as the STi but when the 2nd turbo cuts in it will give the STi a good run. Faster top end, 168mph:)
  8. I might be tempted to sell my V3 STi wagon. I've owned it 8 yrs now, standard engine except for full decat and k&n. Produced 326 bhp at 7,500 rpm at the Aberdeen SIDC RR day last year. Plenty standard newish cars in attendance to confirm that the RR readings were close to manufacturers numbers. 3rd most powerful car on the day and raised a lot of eyebrows;) It's done 45k'ish miles and just had a new set of adj KYB/eibachs. Also sat on 18" OZ's that are unmarked. I'd be looking for £6k (needs new front lip and paint and probably tyres but that'd be done if price was £6k) It's been SORN'd since last Oct in the garage as we've another 3 cars that we use.. Here's a pic on the RR (since fitted open neck downpipe, feels more powerful lower down now) Can't get the pics to insert so here's the link. http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/sco...nt=DSCF0005.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/sco...99/IMGP1257.jpg
  9. This is my second car - very good comfortable mile muncher - and it's for sale:) http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/thread/944097.aspx
  10. Think you've been unlucky mate, I've had my STi3 8 yrs now and it's only failure, other than consumables, was the battery - and it managed 326bhp last year virtually standard at the SIDC RR day. Had my GTB 3 yrs now, now done 120k miles and it's never let me down other than the uppipe - which after this sort of miles is understandable. RR'd when I bought it at 95k miles and it managed 277 bhp. My first Subaru was a DL 1.6 Estate, bought for £500. Did 40k miles in 4 yrs without servicing (not even oil change) and it ran fine till scrapped - at the same time I had a BWM 325 TDS SE which was low miles and pretty new and I couldn't keep up with the bits that were dropping off it. Hence the move to Subaru's.
  11. I have an STI V3.Decatted downpipe and Magnex decat centre, H&S backbox. Runs fine, for MOT's I have a UK centre section with cat that I stick in. Flanges have stainless nuts and bolts and the job takes about 20 mins with cleaning up the flanges/gaskets. Car has always breezed through the MOT with just the centre section cat.
  12. But a new one with mild steel pistons, the pistons fitted by Godspeed as part of the refurb are Stainless Steel, it tends to be the corrosion and pitting on the standard pistons that lead to the calipers becoming u/s. I've nowt to do with Godspeed, just like good honest value at a good price. When you say 'new', don't you mean exchange? or why would they want the old caliper? If these are exchange units then they're refurb'd anyway?
  13. Thanks 22B, from memory I'm sure that SM had a pair of 22B's for a period.I'll maybe try to get up there at the end of the week for a look.
  14. From a SNET thread in June 2003 - I now know Bob? owned it at one point and it's done 37k miles in the last 3 1/2 yrs...Suffolk STD code http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-general...2b-sti-8-a.html 1998 S Reg Subaru Impreza 2.2 22B NO.277/400 Petrol, METALLIC BLUE, Saloon, 18,000 miles , 3 Doors. Climate Control, Full Service History, Stack CD Player.SONY AMP - FULL HISTORY - .LONG M.O.T./ TAXED - PRIVATE SALE CALL BOB ON - VERY FAST!! £27,500. Tel: (01787) 475329 or 07776 146146
  15. Ian Godney of Godspeed will refurb with new seals/Stainless pistons and repaint for £175. I'll probably get mines overhauled by him, could do it myself but I couldn't clean the calipers as well as he can and by the time you buy the bits you're nearly as cheap to go with the above. I replaced my seals about 3 years ago but some of the pistons were corroded. Spring clips that hold on the dust boot are a bit of a challenge...
