  1. Presume you guys have seen this clip before ( from Knockhill Time Attack) ? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Da4x1aGXUhg I am convinced that the car is an absolute beast to tame and this is coupled with the fact that the longitudinal wheel base has been shortened ( hence more prone oversteer...) Having said that he does do some odd things. For instance around 5 mins 10 secs he spins out at Duffus Dip. He appears to brake and down change in a straight line as you'd expect. He then seemingly fails to get back on the gas on the approach to the apex which throws the weight of the car all over the place. I have no desire to slate him ( lucky fella that he is with all hat machinery at his disposal..) but that does a pretty fundamental error. He also takes some really odd lines which leave him at a loss ( especially at the hairpin when he's chasing the white evo) He gets on the gas to early and runs wide rather than squeezing on the power in a straight'er line whilst unwinding the lock. The white Evo leaves him for dead despite the fact it's clearly harbouring less ponies. Have to agree though, we're not born with these skills and everyone has to learn somewhere, sometime....... Cal
  2. Cheers Stuarty, The Patriot is going to Wallace Performance tomorrow for a dyno run and some basic diagnostic checks. Getting the ARB fitted too ( time permitting) - appreciate the advice folks. Incidentally, has any tried running an ARB on the tightest hole with standard suspension ? It makes for VERY interesting oversteer. I had this with my black bugeye and it was pretty lairy. After I fitted Prodrive springs and had geom. done the oversteer more or less diminished Cal
  3. Awesome advice from the collective massive - I salute you fella's !
  4. Running fine after a tightened up all of the fmic jubilee's yesterday, Before that I think one of them was leaking slightly.....Gonna switch to chunkier Mikalor clamps in time. Before I unleash it at Ingleston and KH I want a "peace of mind" diagnostics test on it. Getting that done on Wednesday so will likely get it RR'd at the same time..... Yeah - reckoned to be 350 / 350 or so.......nae too fussed if it ends up less. I still feels bonkers on full boost. I need to get the handling sorted out because it's very prone to understeer at the moment. Got ARB and springs to fit to address that to an extent. Got a MY93 silver bumper to fit. Current one is fine but the bumper cut for the FMIC is pretty rough and ready. Gonna get a bodyshop to do it for me to get it as neat and as stealghty as poss. CGS
  5. Thanks lads - my WRX was hitting 29 today on 1.4 bar WOT................seems I have nowt to worry about. I have never seen it go above 30 since I have owned it.
  6. I'll rephrase my question if it makes it easier - at what value on the PFC knock's meter should you start getting worried ? When setting an alarm you'd presumably set it slightly under that value CGS
  7. 34 views and nae answers ? Where's the Squirrel and Playsatan when you need em' : o )
  8. Guys, What do you reckon would constitute a threshold alarm for knock ? Thanks Cal
  9. Just looking at your profile pic - if you have an STi or even a hawkeye WRX you're up-pipe is decatted by default ( bug & blob eye WRX's are different I believe though)
  10. Huge difference - you can run higher EGT ( exhaust gas temps) which means you can whack up the boost. If you leave the cat in the up-pipe you'll not spool up as quickly and there's a chance the cat could break up with bits of debris being eaten by your turbo. You'll maybe get an extra 10 bhp if your lucky CGS
  11. Now that is a fine catch..............loving the group N Heritage

  14. Excellent Geo ! Thanks for the post....... A garage fitted them for me so I'll get it checked out - Ian Godney gave me the adapters ( Brembo specific) but it sounds like it might be wise the try and get some coil protector too. Thanks for taking the time to pen a note
  15. some good links in here too http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...0&hl=alpine
  16. I have always found Mr G. a slightly grumpy fellow ( just busy I suppose )......... Alyn on the other hand is a legend with ultra rapido dispatch and good banter to boot
  17. Looking real nice Fee ! I actaully saw you on Facebook the other day - I can't remember who the mutual friend was ! What else have you and Adam got planned for 2009 ?
  18. Looking good and makes it easier to work round the engine bay ! Do you need to drill some holes to install ******************************************************************************** ************************************* Just watch out with that private regi when driving though Holland - you might get a few sniggers a http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gat#Dutch I know this because I work with lots of Dutch guys and run a training programme in the UK entitled " GAT " You learn something new everyday !
  19. No carpet ! but I have an oldish rug down for catching crap & dirt......spent too long treating ma' nicely painted garage floor to get it mancy & chipped ( ) Some old pics of the garage prep ( took me about 7 nights to whitewash the four walls and about £100 worth of proper floor paint to do things properly) It was just a cement floor before and generated loads of dust :- Took it in two halves From B&Q Phew ! Finito ! ( the old black beast parked up...) As for the brake parts :- Ian Godney and Alyn @ ASP gave really good prices. Went with Ian in the end as he matched Alyn and could supply the custom cables too 1993 import WRX 1 set of rear vented discs @ £95 1 set of rear standard pads @ £35 1 set of front grooved discs 294mm @ £89 1 set of front Kevlar pads for the 4 pot Seat Leon Cupra R brembos @ £75 1 set of rear braided hoses + adapters for the 4 pot Seat Leon Cupra R brembos @ 4 x £17.50 = £70
  20. Fixed the pics after I made a horses erse of them !
  21. Last post :- http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtop...&hl=patriot Latest news :- The brakes failed the cars recent MOT ( other than a minor fog light issue ) Other than that she sailed through.... Before ( source of MOT failure as cables were in danger of fouling ) :- Old cables & connections After ...........with the new Godney style adapters ( & discs and pads all round) :- Now passed my MOT but I think I have a boost leak somewhere in the FMIC system or the DV is on it's way out. Should be a minor thing to sort out ( change standard jubilee clamps to Pirtek Mikalor ones for starters) After that I'll change out the sump and do the headers before getting another remap ( that's after buying a sports cat system - this decat business is a nuisance) Already have and ARB to fit and Eibach lowering springs too I intend to mod slowly and carefully. I doubt I'll ever turn up the boost beyond 1.4 bar or change for a bigger turbo. Handling is king and needs attention I guarantee I'll need a new clutch or gearbox soon though ! With any luck I'll fire in an RA 6 speed box with diff ( sling the controller though as I understand the DCCD is a nightmare to retrofit..... Managed to do an oil change myself ( properly ) - when you dont have an everyday runner to keep roadworthy you can potter to your hearts content. Gonna get rid of these horrendous tints as well. Then fire on an STi5 style spoiler..... I have no intentions of selling so one the mechanicals are sorted I'll consider a respray and new bumper I think I am having more fun restoring her than driving it ! A few times I have headed home early when out on a blast as she's pretty lairy which the current handling ( standard 99 suspension) Cheers for all the advice of late Cal
  22. Hopefully this has not been posted in here before but have a read of this and reflect as you see fit ...... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...629763&i=80 Cal
