Putting things in perspective your average public goon is satisfied with a dull form of transport. Therefore anything remotely chavvy looking is branded " neddy". To be honest our cars stick out like a stonar on a daschund. Unless you are into rally cars they DO look ridiculous. However, as we all love them we are slightly tainted ( but we are still right []) So the noisiest and most obvious cars that the cruisers drive is likely to be the one that sticks in the publics mind. Gold wheels complete the Jimmy Saville look too in the public eyes. I don;t think they are a neds car but I can see why a 2k clapped out import driven by a young guy is percieved as a bam mobile CGS

I am chuffed to report the my 02 WRX passed it's MOT today despite the fact that a) the engine was stone cold the cat was bought second hand and is circa 2 yrs old c) it's got 1.2 bar if boost horsing through it d) it's the only cat I have in the car ( i.e decatted up-pipe) Well chuffed that I can drive past emissions vans without fear and save money without having to f*nny around around with changing pipes over Thanks as always go to Uncle Wuz !
