So stupid question time then - with an intercooler sitting on top of the engine, does that mean the Scooby diesel will have a bonnet scoop?

I don't know if this has been posted by anyone else recently, so apologies if it has. Paul at Halley's of Milngavie has let me know that Subaru are trying to get rid of all the wheels that it took from the STi's when building the RB320's. They are selling them for £100 each including the brand new tyres from the factory (Bridgestone's IIRC), but this may be plus VAT. I don't think they will last long at this price. The only downside is that it is for the later STi's only, with the bigger wheel PCD (he tried to offer me them for my 04 WRX, but was of course no use- Damn!!!) So, just a heads up for all you newage STi owners that need new tyres - why not get new wheels at the same time.

Steve, the pic of the Audi "that's just down the road" is of Andy Woods and his good lady, and with no disrespect to Andy (or his team that prep the car), it isn't that fabulous a machine. What it does prove is how good a driver Andy is though, and if I'm not mistaken, he beat a certain Mr McRae to the Scottish Rally Championship back in 1987, if memory serves me correctly. As for my favourite rally car, I'm mostly with Gus in that there are too many defining cars, but ultimately for me, it has to be a Gp4 Escort driven by God himself (Ari Vatanen). A close second has to be the RS200 - I'd have love to have seen what it could do if allowed to develop for a few years.

Sorry boys, but 15W-50 is starting to get a bit thick for cold starts in the morning, so 10W-40 is better. Better still is to use 5W-40 (as Subaru recommend) or, if spirited driving is involved 5W-50 or 10W-50. The lower the initial number is, the easier the the oil circulates when starting from cold (although 0W-40 is too thin, as has been mentioned), and the higher the second number, the more resistant to the oil becoming too thin and possibly buring up and carbonising on such things as the turbo main shaft (especially when shutting down the car when warm). The only problem with 10W-60 oil, is that the 60 section still remains very thick until super high temps are reached, and whilst offering protection, a lower grade oil such as 50W circulates easier, produces less drag, and hence more power. I'll try and find the article to back this up. Craig

Go for it Gus. I was going to try and get one of these Legacy STi beauties in the 2nd post, contacted Prodrive (they use them as management cars on the WRC) and was told that they were getting sent back to the Land of the Rising Sun or GETTING CRUSHED!!!! So I amy head down the same route as you. (I've just found out I can't post up the link to this, but when I can - I will)

Probably best and most interesting thread in quite a while, and lets you know that there are some really sick people driving Scoobs. My List 1: Jenna Jamieson (Got to agree with Gumball on her - most chance of your Nat King as well) 2: Helena Christensen 3: Ari Vatanen (Auldy put down God - I just put down his other alias) Kept it down to 3, but list could go on and on. If VBH was hitchhiking and wanted to jump in with me and Jenna, I wouldn't say no.

Is part of the fun of a Mr F map, not the return leg from his premises???
-
Car looks nice inj both styles, but with a carbon rear spoiler and the the new wheels, it should look the absolute berries.
-
Fully agree with Scotty on this one. I was the passenger in a barrel roll on Mull just over a year ago, and thanks only to the seatbelt and the good grace of God did I manage to walk away from that one alive. Seatbelts save lives, airbags only cushion a blow

It also keeps you legal for both MOT and roadside emissions testing. If you want, I could try and scan the pages of Scoobymag that had the Andy F article and post them up. The thing with the turbo is that assuming you don't want any more power in the future (and the 5 Speed box struggles with too much more anyway), then you are better to go for a turbo that isn't oversized and giving too much lag.
-
Absolutely agree on both counts. This is why I'm asking Andy F for both a Turbo and a re-map (well I will on the 22/04/07 - the day after the warranty runs out!!!)
-
Are you sure they are sitting in the holders correctly as this is the easiest mistake to make to upset a beam battern.

I am aiming for similar power with the wife's WRX (currently PPP) or slightly more and my planned mod's were H&S sports cat downpipe, replacing the primary/pre-cat in the up-pipe witha straight through section (the last cat has already been removed as part of the PPP), an Andy-F modified TD04 (excellent spool-up giving superb in-gear times), a newage STi intercooler and finally a remap by the affore-mentioned man. A STi fuel-pump and injectors will also be sourced (A fuel pump was sourced but ended up on my GT-. I read an article in the last ScoobyMag by Andy that had been his WRX based on a similar spec, and IIRC, it was producing approx 320bhp and was giving some startling performance figures.

Two special cars Greersport used to look after
craigdmcd replied to the squiggle's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Davey used to also own the Carbon bodied "Escort" Cosworth that Sue Collins Built, Iain Gardener's old RS500 race car (the only one that beat Paul Bailey's RS2000/RS500 incarnation - I later bought the Sierra from Davey with a good few bits missing), the Diablo/Ferrari/911 GT2 (993?), amongst the many others. Bill Greer once told me how he once took a photo of the car collection, and had to take several shots to get them all in. Oh yes, I think he had some really trick superbikes with really Gucci bits on them - a VFR750 RC45 seems to ring a bell. Wish I'd tried a bit harder when computers first came out instead of dodging round a field in a clapped out beetle!!! -
Have you not learned to say NO yet?
-
Nah, it's just not as much fun when you have to type "well I know mine is slower than yours"

On the contrary Peter, if an organised event, such as a special sprint (one warm up and 2 flying laps) were to be organised round KH, them I'm sure they would have no problem with it. This would help also by ensuring that no one else was on the track, so avoiding any daft accidents (ie collisions between 2 cars). A short twisty sprint round Muirkirk, or as you say, Ingliston, would also be a possibility for the agility section or using some of the rally stages at Crail (trying to get a road closure is not the easiest of tasks). The big thing with this is to try and enlist the help of a car club that has done these type of events many times before. If enough support was gained, different classes could be organised.

I would let the owner's compete in their own cars (so at least their excuse could be that they were pathetic - not their cars[]). And whilst yes, I would not relish the challenge of matching Colin McRae through a forest stage, Gordon Shedden round Knockhill, or up against Andy Forrest up the 1/4 mile in his fabulous machine, I believe that any of these gents are only mere mortals like the rest of us, and taken away from their comfort zones, with inferior equipment (everyone claims to have a better car, so obviously they must have inferior equipment!), anyone could be a winner. I am not daft enough to enter this (a PPP WRX isn't really quick enough to match some of these cars under 3 of the criteria that I mentioned), but would like to come along and see it happen (possibly a series over a period of months or through the year?). Any thoughts folks?

Yes, N/A Cosworth BD series of engines were known for there ability to rev to more than 10,000rpm (there were many incarnations and final letters including A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,J,P,U and the infamous BDT in the RS200). The best 2.0 litre N/A BDH's were known to give around 280bhp in full race spec. The original Cossie's were actually designed for international Group A racing and rally where a minimum of 5000 units were required to be built, with a minimum of 10% of that figure to be used for further evolutions - hence 5000 RS Cosworths and then the RS500 model. Sorry, I used to run the RSOC, so I'm a bit of an anorak about these things. And sorry again, this time for high-jacking the thread. Have we actually decided a winner for the fastest Newage yet? How about a combined challenge to include the 1/4 mile, a KH lap, a V-Max speed and a timed point to point run (b-road style)?
-
No need for that call folks, as I was there the day that Gumball's machine did make 403bhp on the Dastek rollers. Although it has to be said that my 1999 Legacy GT-B did make 310bhp, and the only change from standard that I knew at the time was that for some reason my secondary turbo was spooling up to 1.2 bar instead of 1 bar. Apart from that, I would have a: considered my car to be running slightly sick through the lower rev range & b: I thought that Dastek's rollers were optimistic by 20bhp purely on my results. Horsepower can realistically only be compared one car to another when compared between however many cars on the same day, under the same conditions at the same set of rollers. All I know is that I still have probably the quickest car here (when having to transport a full set of Ikea bedroom furniture in the back at the same time!!!)

No, what channel is rally fever on? What was the 3rd of the 3 bad ones then?
-
Vicki, I'm guessing that not so cheeky chappie standing in the back left of the 3rd photo was your driver for the weekend(Mr Marshall Jnr?). Also noted the glum look on JD's face as he worked out how he was going to straighten that one out. At least Fred has got the Scoob back together again after the JCR. A bit of a non-finishing run getting going here. I think you are going to have to learn to say no to JD a bit more forcefully!!!

Sorry to be the bearer of harsh news, but yes there is a major rush. My friends Turbo went sick with a MAF fault, he continued to drive it until ne got a new one ( a few weeks later) and then one month later, #3 big-end bearing collapsed. A serious side effect of a dead MAF sensor, so place a matter of urgency on it. Craig

I believe this is what you are looking for if you want the genuine item. clicky Not cheap, but at least it is warrantied, you can take it off to sell when you part with the car and it is a piece of piss to fit. You just have to know how much T&C will discount it by.

Are they mostly Subaru guides, or what other makes have you bought them for?
