Cheers : I think I'll try the NF Race - maybe 1/5 bottle per tank or so ?
-
Searched around but didn't find anything although I know this has been discussed before : I'm needing a new supply of octane booster for my WRX : have used the Millers Octane Plus which gets used at a bottle per tank, works out at around £3.50+ per tank. Phoned Pentland Components and they have NF Race which is around £15 per bottle inc vat but only around 1/8th (?) a bottle or so is used per tank so would be more economical but more hassle as it needs measured out. Suggestions as to the best (for road use only) Jap classic WRX booster to use and best source also pls !

Phoned Skidz yesterday, spoke to Craig who suggested I try checking the door switches : all seemed fine. Phoned back and he arranged for someone to come out today which they did. Typically the alarm decided to behave itself but we thought that the likely problem was the siren so this was swapped and an hour later the job was done at no cost to me; this after it had been on the car for 3 1/2 yrs so I'm pretty impressed by the service and they seemed to know their stuff. Hopefully the alarm will now give a few more years service. I'm hoping that some audio upgrades might be on their way soon and Skidz are likely to get my business as going elsewhere to maybe save a few quid is not always worth it if another business has shown their high level of service to me - Skidz seem worthy of some praise !

Not aware of any alternator or bettery issues : about 6 months ago the battery went totally flat but after charging it up it was fine and absolutely no probs with it since. May see what Skidz have to say.

Since buying my car, a 95 WRX, I've had a Toad ai606 fitted and it's behaved perfectly. Was fitted at JVS by someone from Skidz. About 2 weeks ago the alarm went off whilst driving around the centre of Edinburgh and nothing I did seemed to resolve the problem : switch it off and it would be silenced for a minute or 2 then it would do the same. What seemed to stop it was, and I am guessing here, was driving quicker, ie open roads, not stop-start, and I wondered if the alarm unit was maybe overheating and the greater airflow allowed the unit to cool. Car has hardly been driven since then but when it has the alarm has behaved. Until last night when it went off and again, no pressing of remote buttons would stop it and I've had to disconnect the battery. Was particularly cold last night so as opposed to the overheating issue the previous time I wonder if it's become temperature sensative ?! Any thoughts ? Are these alarms reliable long-term - I've had the car for 4 years or so. It'll be well out of any guarantee and Falrkirk is not local to me (South of Edinburgh) so is it best to get to Falkirk and have Skidz to look at it or is there anyone more convenient that is particularly familiar with these alarms ?

Personally I don't see any problem with people with stupidly dark front windows being forced to remove them : you don't drive around at night with dark sunglasses on - why ? because it reduces your ability to see other road users, plus when someone has really dark tints fitted to their car it makes it far more difficult to determine if they've seen you when you've got right of way at a junction, r'bout etc : a plonker in an Astra with blacked out windows a few months back almost hit me at a roundabout on my bike one night.and I reckon he didn't see me due to his ability to see anything outside of his own car interior being reduced to close to nought. I do now see a relatively high percentage of big 4x4s etc around with these as opposed to the hot-hatches and I wonder if these have not been targetted in the same way ? My mate works for VOSA and he has a severe dislike for X5s etc so I'm sure given the chance he will be stopping these trucks if they've got dark tints.

Millers themselves seem to charge a premium ! go to http://www.fuelboost.co.uk/ They only charge £28.95 + £7.49 P & P for a box of 10 or £79.95 + £11.49 for 30 bottles. Their prices include VAT whereas Millers prices do not. I've bought from them before and will be doing so very soon again.

It it a Broadband connection ? If so then it sounds the same as our problem that has repeated a couple of times over a months or so. Voice line had pretty much unusable crackle etc and the ring was inaudible. Modem would also drop the line. Problem traced to the broadband filter : I've now gone throguh about 4 of these things and a BT engineer said that it is surprising how often they find tht these can fail. Last time I just swapped the existing filter for another one and all was fine. If you haven't a spare filter then try the voice line plugged in to the wall socket without the filter in place.

As you have a note of the phone number can you not get this number traced to the person ?

If he feels you aren't trying to take him for a ride by telling him it will cost over the odds of what he expects it to cost to repair then he might be more liable to cough up. If it's a fairly simple repair job then see if you can get a quote from somewhere that is not too expensive : if what he thinks is just a little scratch in a bumper is going to cost £500 then he might tell you to bu66er off but it it costs, say £130 then he's more likely to reach into his wallet ?

I'm in Midlothian : After the demise of JVS I wasn't aware of any other reasonably local stockist. Bathgate isn't too far but fuelboost's price is still pretty darn good when you take into account postage or cost of driving there if you don't go past their door. Any other Lothian region stockists ?

I'll reply myself now. Box of 10 arrived today : pretty decent service and price is good too so here at least is 1 way of sourcing OB for the many of us that need it but don't have a quick source of it.

Big Bertha Pretty cool selection of cars. The whole directory includes a few other goodies - have just watched the Mk2 RS2000 XPACK V6 : great sound ! RSOC Videos Also a few pics and videos here : (the Mercedes 190 Evo II in the Videos 2003 has fantastic sound. Assorted German Sprint and Hillclimbs. Holy smoke : a quick drive up the hill ! Amazing sound.

Anyone else used these guys ? http://www.fuelboost.co.uk I need some OB as I'm down to 1 spare bottle now : is there an edinburgh-area stockist of Octane Plus ?

Blue 'N' plate WRX Sti Type RA V-Limited : followed you from Lasswade to Loanhead in my classic WRX late this am. Mahoosive tailpipe with a few pops and bangs thrown in for good measure in Loanhead !

The very same one - much coolness. Me wanty !

Saw a 22B (think was JDM one) around Newhaven yesterday : this the one ? Had heavy tints on the rear side windows. The 22B is possibly the coolest looking rally-rep car ever !

I'd planned for these to go along with the wheels but if the buyer doesn't need them then I'll give you first refusal.

I've a set of 5-spoke Speedlines with tyres, that are surpless to requirements. I think that these are the wheels that are sold as part of one of the Prodrive upgrades. Tyres are worn pretty evenly and are legal but only just. 1 pair Uniroyals and 1 pair Yokohamas. Wheels are in reasonable condition, no bad kerbing or dings but the actual paint/lacquer is not great in some places. These are ideal for someone looking for an upgrade from the standard Turbo or WRX wheels on an early classic. Looking for offers.... Based in Midlothian : Local buyer preferred but could travel if required. 1st pair 2nd pair Edit to add : I've also got the deepsunk wheel nuts which I had to buy for these as std ones are too shallow : these cost something like £20.

Anyone got 15 or 16" wheels not needed, laying about??
andyr replied to drb5's topic in Scottish Scoobies
I've a set of 16" 5 twin-spoke alloys from a 95WRX sitting in my garden if you want them. -
My sister-in-law needs a cheapo car after her rustbucket Seat Ibiza failed it's MOT a couple of weeks ago. Looking to spend £500 max. I've been asked to look out for one - I can't really be bothered traipsing all over the place so if anyone knows of one of where I might look then I'd be grateful - hopefully not too far away from Midlothian / Edinburgh area. Hoping to get a decent MOT and something that doesn't immediately need money thrown at it for tyres etc Cheers.

Thanks for the replies peeps - Edinburgh-Chris I've pm'd you.

Looks like all 4 tyres are heading for replacement very soon : managed a 180 spin at the weekend on wet roundabout and all tyres are low in tread although legal. Currently the front and rear pairs don't match and neither are anything special (Uniroyals on one end I think, not sure about the other without looking) so I'm not looking for ultimate grip, just a decent tyre that will be suitable for the usual Scottish roads and mixed weather. I've been looking at some of the online tyre companies (mytyres, blackcircles topgear.co.uk ) and excluding the regularly recommended tyres name such as Potenzas, Toyo T1Rs etc (which since I'm having to lash out on a full set are going to hurt the wallet a little too much !) there are a number of tyres that suit my budget a bit more but I'd appreciate recommendations from those that might have used tyres towards teh budget end of the price spectrum. Anyone got any recommendations for suitable tyres / sources ? Falken 451s ? Uniroyal Rainsport ? Toyo R610A ? P6000 ? Yoko S306 ? Oops, Tyres are for a 95 WRX, 205/50 16 Cheers

Repair kit is certainly something to consider - I guess these would be the dust and fluid seals (have used these for motorbike calipers before) Only issue is that I can't really do without the car for too long - sometimes brake pistons get corroded and it's better just to replace them (assuming decent ones can be sourced at reasonable cost !)
