Speedways looks well cheap : no way of knowing what manufacturers products you are getting but assuming they are up to OE standards then £35 for pads and £76 for disks is very cheap. I think I've got front pads already after picking a box up cheap in Halfords months ago but the disks are 1/2 of what I've been previously quoted.
Had to take my WRX to a local National Tyre place (Corstorphone road in Edinburgh) to investigate what I'd suspected was a binding caliper. Not my first choice but I had no alternative at short notice.
Turns out the pads on the nearside (and maybe the other) is very low (not worn out though) plus the caliper is binding badly with the result that the disk has started discolour due to overheating.
Out of interest I asked them to quote for pads and disk : £80 and £140 respectively although they seemed more than happy to lower their price if I pushed a bit so I guess I can get them for under £200. They weren't sure about the price for a caliper : I'm hoping that once it has cooled I can remove it and free up the piston.
Can anyone recommend a place for either parts only or parts and fitting - the next few days are not that easy for me to do the job myself so I may have to hand the car over to someone to do it. I've emailed Glenburgie re the parts and am waiting them getting back to me.
Ideally the west side of Edinburgh which is handy for work or Dalkeith area which is nearer home.
For those that drive in the area, I've been advised that, amongst others, L & B Police have a silver 52 plate 3 or 5 series BMW (sorry, can't remember which it is) plus a white Jaguar (no idea of the plate) estate (!).
Beware !
I managed to get down to the rally yesterday but a bit of a late start : met my mate at Leadburn at 7:30 then got to stage 2 which was good, ie a nice short walk !, then wandered along to the lunchtime service, then up to stage 4 but after speaking to a couple of guys at the entrance road (in a Corsa and Cavalier IIRC) we scooted away from there as parking/spectating opportunities seemed a bit tricky and then headed along to the start of SS 5. Not the best decision ever probably as that entailed a 2 mile walk each way but a pretty good section was available so hopefully some good photos taken.
Apologies for not getting to any rendez-vous points but ours was a rushed event : good roads though !
Bloody 'ell that's a bit of an early start from Edinburgh !
Assuming my passenger/co-driver is still up for it then I'd reckon I'd be at the Abingdon Shell Optimax re-fuel point : 1 hr prior to 1st stage start wheneverwherever that is ?
Johnny, wouldn't mind a few pics. (see profile)
As long as the wheels haven't any damage other than minor scuffs etc and tyres have decent tread then these sound like just the job.
Cheers
Looking to replace the naff 16" alloys on my '95 WRX currently fitted with pretty worn tyres with something slightly more attractive along with reasonable tread : anyone got a set of 16 or maybe 17" wheels/tyres ?
.
Live nr Edinburgh so a local-ish sale or someone willing to post/arrange a meeting please !
