Alright for some - Australia and getting your hands on some melons, what a life. Now I'm nae scared oh creepy crawleys but they have some serious spiders and snakes in Aus. I would be c**ping masell if I was picking melons. So how are sheila's, tinnies and shrimps (The usual stereo type of Aus). Be glad yer there it's starting to get colder here, summers finished but you missed a good one. Car must be the new T25. I've got the plate but need to get the car. Send us a postcard [] PS can you take back 50 oh those toads you mentioned [mo] [Y]

Got e-mail from Andy today and he reckons the standard actuator is well up to the job so that'a good enough for me. Happy as that saves me £120 [] and allows me to spend it on something else [Y]

Yeah first thing I did - then posted this thread to get some opinions. Andy's a busy man so awaiting his reply. I think boost creep was the wrong description, Yeah I don't really know if I need it but as per Powerstations work on SN webmasters car they felt it was a good idea for the following reason "to actually hold boost pressure for a specific period of time it may be required to use a actuator with a higher "crack" pressure in any case to sustain this. This normally requires an actuator with a harder spring." It does say "may need" but to save Andy's and my time I'm thinking it would be good to cover everything now.

That garage must have belonged to DR WHO it's like a tardis Lol

So is the JDM twin scroll turbo a VF37? Graham good has an uprated actuator but it says upto 1.4 bar
-
I got mine on Thursday - now that was quick. I had an optimax card and was upgraded automatically. It will take haly my life to earn a free Mars bar or something though.

Cheers Dipsy

Just read the write up again and noticed it mentions you get adjustable ones DOH!

Yeah your right Power Junkie - I sent him an e-mail earlier but he's a busy man so don't know when I will get a reply and need to get one ordered and fitted before I see him on 06/09.

This explains it better than I could Wastegate Actuator The wastegate actuator controls the opening and closing (to a degree) of the wastgate, which in turn dictates how much boost the turbo will try and make (boost dependant on turbo specification). An actuator works by pressure generated by the engine, pushing the actuator rod out (when exceeding specific pressure) closing the wastegate and retracting (after forward movement) when pressure is dropped, opening the wastegate. An actuator is normally rated with a "crack" pressure, which dictates what pressure is required to move the actuator rod out to close the wastegate and reduce boost. The higher the "crack" pressure, the more boost the turbo will create while the actuator is in rest. Pressure to the actuator is normally fed via a boost control valve (explained later). This pressure can then be "bleed off" via the boost control valve, to create a scenario where in fact the actuator will let the turbo produce more boost than the "crack" pressure dictates. While this is a way to produce more boost, to actually hold boost pressure for a specific period of time it may be required to use a actuator with a higher "crack" pressure in any case to sustain this. This normally requires an actuator with a harder spring. Since we wanted to experiment with holding a higher defined boost target, we decided to upgrade the standard actuator with one that had a stiffer spring (higher "crack" pressure) and adjustable rod for changing pre-load on the wastegate. Old Actuator (small elbow at front takes vacuum pipe & the brown rod at the back is the actuator rod) New Actuator (small pipe at front takes vacuum pipe and the silver/gold rod at the back is the adjustable actuator rod)

Doing a bit of modding JC and hoping to get about 350-360 Bhp and about 340lbs/ft torque. When using boost controller for that bit extra boost when required AFAIK the waste gate actuator can creep a little at higher boost levels so want to change it to make sure Andy can get the best results when I get my remap on 06/09. Have you read the Newage mod write up on Scooby net? Learning quite a bit from it but wish they would hurry up with stage 2. Spending cash now but no doubt stage 2 will reveal a better way of doing it. Ah well all part of the fun!

Looking for uprated wastegate actuator for my 04 JDM STi. Anyone purchased / fitted one - advice / help greatly appreciated. Do you get adjustable ones

Yeah I reckon you weren't trying hard enough Callum as I also get it just above half tank. Need to do something as I hate it when it cuts out for that split second. The idea of the extended return hose sounds good, but might just go for the TSL deal. [] I like an easy life!

I have a toad alarm and I seemed to have problems with it shorting in the wet and making funny clicking noise. Bonnet sensor seemed to be where the problem was. Took it to the guy who installed it. He was standing with the horn in his hand and the car was still making a noise. He was worried my car was haunted but it turned out that the car already had an alarm before the guy I bought the car from installed the Toad and it was faulty. Never even new it was there as I didn't have a remote for it or anything. It got a few laughs in the garage though. The guy got some stick fae his mates. So to some up Toad alarm and never had a problem! []

Has anyone installed or know anyone esle who has installed an anti-surge tank as per TSL link or some other manufacturer. http://www.tsl-motorsport.co.uk/newsite/pr...&detail=191 Just wondering if it's good/easy to fit/worth the money? Or should I just slow down at the hairpins?

I filled up with Optimax (I think - It could have been V-power) at shell's Loirston Staion in Aberdeen last Friday. Then put V-Power in at Knockhill. Didn't feel like the car was running that well on the track then added some Millers OB that I got off of Dipsy and that certainly made a big diferrence. Engine didn't miss a beat except for a bit of fuel surge at the hairpin - Car was much smother and got to 120mph on the straight. (Nae as good as Craig Mac we his 140). Wasn't really using OB much but now convinced it's the way to go. Still wonder why shell didn't go for 100 ron as isn't that what JDM cars are meant to run on.

Had my car to Wallace perfomance on Tuesday. Bit of a c**k up on my side. Was due at Andy F for a remap on Wednesday and Wuz was going to fit my AVCR on the Tuesday. Wuz's wife had to go back into hospital (Hope everything is fine Wuz) so understandably had to cancel. When checking my mail to give Andy a call to see if he could fit it just before my remap (I know I know - Fat chance - Busy man) noticed that he had recommended upgrading fuel pump. Now I looked into this a while ago on SN and SIDC and got the advice that an 04 JDM doesn't need a bigger pump but Andy's advice was to install one so that's good enough for me. Called Wallace @ 12:00 on Tuesday and they had a pump in stock and managed to squeeze me in at 17:00 at night. Got there at 16:30 and they started right away. 1 hour later all was finished. Then received call from Andy to say he couldn't manage to fit AVCR ( not surprised but worth a try) so he was happy to re-schedule so panic was over. Now need to get AVCR fitted. Then booked into Andy 06/09 for remap. So thanks to Russell for squeezing me in and doing a fine job.

Abz and Surround Heading for Dastek 2nd Sept?
gogsie replied to craig mac's topic in Scottish Scoobies
Canna make it as no Doon to Andy F now until the 6th Sep. No point in on going on rolling road before then. Plus I may have tickets for Robbie Williams. -
Good on you Craig, That's a great step in the right direction. It will be great to get more new blood into the Aberdeen area. As someone said before when in Aberdeen "Couldn't believe the amount of Scoobies up there" So we should be able to attract more people. Also good to here they will service JDM and modded cars. Now I won't feel like a Leper when I drive in with my JDM. I must remember to mention the SIDC discount, I always seem to wait until the guy has put it through the system before I remember to mention it. Then I feel it's to late and don't bother saying [:$]

I use Carden too. Used Glenvargill until they warrenty ran out then used Carden and I have found there service is much better than Glenvargil. The courtesy cars are a bit old but I enjoy it. I find it fun getting into the old toyota or proton and driving around. I just don't go where I can be seen. That's reminds me I need to book a MOT for the Honda Craig I wouldn't be bothered if they used a couple of older trade-ins (Inspected and safe) as long as I could get a car. Same as others have said. Expensive and not the best service. But having a JDM that wouldn't matter as they won't look at them anyway. Saying that I have visited a couple of times on minor matters like locking wheelnuts and no key and they removed them free of charge and I bought a new set from there parts dept without the 10% discount! I think a good part of the reason they are willing to talk is that it's is good for business and they need to build up there rep with the cash customer again. Subaru's are great cars as per JD Power Surveys so they should sell bucket loads and have the servicing wrapped up. Part of the problem in Aberdeen is the false perception that we're all loaded and also that there is so many company cars that keeps garages busy without having to worry about the private owning - cash paying public. They need to remember that although we have a rep for being on good incomes we also have a rep for liking to hang onto our incomes. [] How about they issue customer satisfaction forms to all SS members or after every service. That should give them plenty feedback (throw in a free key ring or something for everyone completed).

Imy Are you doing Poloshirts for the kids? Got 2 girls who would like Poloshirts in Pink! Would like names - though they are still deciding what! Hats are cool. Not into baseball caps so fleece hat would be cool. I would go for SS logo front and SIDC with forum name on back Depending how it looked with the size of the hat. That way people from behind can see who it is and either have a chat or avoid them [] []

That was me Pete, along with the entourage, twas me Gogs (Gogsie), Julie the love of my life, she's looking! and Hollie & Hayley my little petrol heads. I'm going to have to stop Hollie and Hayley going on pax laps in the Caterhams and 340R's. All I get afterwards is my car is naff and I need to get a Caterham. What I really want is that Supercharged Exige "The Red One". What a tool that thing was. Not practical for transporting my entourage but christ it came by me like I was standing still. Might have to get me one of those! You and Craig's cars are awesome. I think a stage 2 maybe required. I will see how the car feels after my andy f remap.
