About SimmoSub

  1. Welcome! Looks a good one mate! Cheers
  2. Hi Guys Can anyone reccomend a decent garage to service the STi in Aberdeen city or Altens/Tullos areas? I used to use Town and County for the old car but it costs an arm and a leg and they weren't that brilliant. Not sure the full dealer history is worth it anyway if I'm keeping for the next 5 years (which is the plan) as will be worth sod all then anyway. Do T+C in Aberdeen still service subaru anyway or is it Subaru Inverurie only now? Cheers for the advice
  3. Jetta Gti - wolf in sheeps clothing! I had a few scirocco's - same engine etc as the golf but I always liked the look of them! Cheers
  4. The plastic arch thing is about £70 from Subaru. Comes colour coded. The first half from the passenger door to the 12 o' clock position is held on with clips supplied with the new arch that clip in to holes in the bodywork. The second half between the 12 o'clock position and the rear bumper is held on with two strips of self adhesive foam. These are attached to the new part. So in short everything you need comes with the new part. You will need to unclip the clips and then gently cut off the self adhesive foam to release the old part. I then spent ages cutting off the remains of the sticky foam from the metal wheelarch with a razor blade and cleaning the surface with a bit of whte spirit. Then clip and stick the new one on. One thing I learned is that you should put the clips in first and then stick the sticky bit on, not the other way around.
  5. I've come close to selling up and getting something more sensible a few times. In fact when I moved the bugeye on it was Cooper S or Hawkeye Sti choice (or Panda 100HP, Suzuki Swift, Clio etc etc!). For driving pleasure and grunt you can't beat the Impreza - it's still a huge performance bargain. Living in the sticks gives me all the extra justification I need to tell myself 4WD is essential!. The Cooper S was quick but zero sense of occasion even if tax and fuel would be a fraction of the cost. A price worth paying I reckon. I really hope Subaru crack the emissions with the next generation of engines though as fuel prices will only go one way and V Power is crippling! Does anyone remember a documentary I saw ages ago when the guy put ever penny he had in to buying an AC Cobra and kept it in the living room. he had to 'borrow' the kids pocket money to put a fivers worth of fuel in it! True dedication.
  6. I really like the black car and dark wheels look mate Aiming for the same look with the hawkeye - shot blast and paint of some stock rims will have to do for now
  7. That's a cracker! Strange how the hatch's looks have grown on me with time.
  8. Welcome along . What did you drive before the scooby? Cheers
  9. This is too good to be true. I just came on to post a rant about Direct Line but I've been beaten to it! 07 sti was about 550 with DL. This was 150 less than renewal with Admiral who had been 200 less than Direct Line the year before who were 175 cheaper than Norwich Union's renewal the year befoire that etc etc. Why do they bother with ludicrous introductory offers and then increase it by hundreds? If they were all straight with you from the start and maintaned premiums at a stable level year on year it would be so much less hassle and they'd build some sort of customer loyalty instead of looking like a bunch of tw*** and hacking off the genral public. Anyway on to the rant. I fitted a Prodrive back box because I like the sound more than the standard box. Hundred quid off Ebay plus a gasket. I tell DL and they not only want to increase my excess but also want an extra £180 plus Admin charge. What for? Am I an increased risk because I have a marginally different back box? What hacks me off is they don't actually look at individual drivers risks they look at databases that seem to rely on gross generalisations? So, changed to Keith Michaels - no nonsense so far - fingers crossed. If this doesn't work I'm moving to Texas where insurance is optional. Cheers, time for a Friday pint
  10. Thanks Guys Yeah it's pretty discrete. Maybe too discrete! Now and again when I see a stock STI I get a hankering for a massive wing and some gold wheels but mostly I'd settle a few subtle tweaks to ake it a bit louder and probably lower.... Will have a look at the Scot meets and see ya there. Cheers Simmo
  11. Thanks mate A couple of naff photos but you get the idea...
  12. Cheers for that. Yeah pics will go up soon. I'm in Aberdeenshire.
  13. Hi All Just thought I'd post to introduce myself. I'm new to the forum but not Impreza's My first was a bug eye WRX wagon, bought at 27K and moved on at 100K after 5 brilliant years. I live in the middle of a field miles from anywhere and it took it all in its stride; mud, snow, potholes, roadkill you name it - never let me down once. Of course there's only one way forward when you get a new car - up, so it had to be an STI! In the end traded the bug for a UK Hawkeye a year or so ago. Performance is leagues ahead and it's a great car but I sometimes think the bug was better bolted together (and of course 2.5 engine is made of candy floss ). The STI is an oddball - a run out model called the 'Limited' (Google if you don't believe me!). It's basically a spec D with a small lip spoiler not a tea tray on the boot , black brembos and the same Enkei 17" wheels. It's black though - which swung it for me. Apparently (this is Dealer talk...) 25 'Limited' were sold in the UK (most went to the US) and I think all from Bulldog, Twford. Anyone know any more about these cars or own one I'd be really interested to hear. Will post pics when I've got a bit more time Cheers Simmo
