  1. It was in The Sun and The Daily Record, also heard it on Real Radio. I also got an email from Knockhill about it. Didn't go myself, but my son Nick and his pals went.
  2. I fitted the scoop, an air duct from the fog lamp cover up to the bottom of the induction kit. Removed the rubber trim from the bonnet that closes down onto the headlight to leave a gap, and fitted a heat shield between the engine and induction kit. On a day with an outside temperature of 8 deg, I fitted a temperature probe to the filter and it was 12 deg. Without the scoops and vents it was over 30-36 deg, and with the standard airbox and panel filter it was 21 deg. So you can get induction kits to work better than a panel filter - but only if you get enough air to it.
  3. I can see similar tastes here.
  4. The VF 30/34/35 are all good for 330-350bhp. The 20G is good for around the 380bhp mark., very few get to the genuine 400bhp mark. The main difference is the spool up of the 20G will be about 500 - 700 rpm later than the VF's.
  5. Mine was only a WRX ra, and if the cars fitted with all the right bits, you don't need an STi. I had mine for 3 years. It ran 320 bhp, was stripped out and fitted with 6 pot AP's, coilovers, whiteline bits, etc. Mine, built to that spec cost about £4500 - including the car in the first place. I've done loads of SIDC track days, Top Marques and TrackScotland events in those 3 years, and I can't honestly remember another Subaru (including STi ra's) that got close to me, and certainly nothing that cost so little. That's the really satisfying bit. Sure there's mega powered Subaru's about, but when they've spent 5 figures on their cars they should be quicker, but if they're not Anyway, spend wisely, get some proper instruction, drive within your limits, and most of all enjoy yourself.
  6. Take a 1450kg car with 300 bhp, and you get 210bhp/ton Now a 1350kg car with 300 bhp, and you get 226bhp/ton. A gain of 16bhp for 100kg. That's 1.6bhp for every 10kg. I went down the weight loss route with my classic track car. I lost about 120kg from the car, but then added 40-50kg back into it by fitting a cage. There was no trim left in the car, excess wiring was removed, rear doors and boot lid were just skins. Washer bottle and intercooler spray bottle were both removed from the engine bay and a single bottle from a VW with twin pumps were put in the boot. Lightweight battery, carbon spoiler, the list goes on................ At the end the car weighed about 1100kg with 320 bhp. So 296 bhp/ton. Pretty good for what was a very cheap track day toy. David
  7. The JDM new-age cars like the classics were all lighter than the UK equivilants. However the lighter JDM cars are weighed with a very basic (ie motorsport) spec. that usually is 16" wheels and 2 pot brakes. So if they have Brembos and 17" alloys fitted, they're not as light as they should be. You don't want to go down that route anyway. But for basics, the air con unit plus radiator is about 10kg Front seats about 24kg each. A pair of lightweight seats and brackets will be less than 1/2 of that. Rear seats 8kg Carpets and under floor cushioning 12kg Sound deadning 12kg Spare wheel and tool / jack 10kg Battery 17kg - lightweight one 7kg Boot trim - very little. One last thing. For every 10kg you loose, it's the equivilant of 1.6bhp when you do bhp/ton calculations.
  8. Back to 1 scooby for now. Both cars combined did a total mileage of about 6000 miles last year. So it was a bit stupid have 2. Rather than sell my blue sti and getting buttons for it in the current market. I'm going to convert that to a new track car. Stay tuned, but it's looks will all be changed with a good bit more power.
  9. Took a wee trip up to Knockhill today. But since I've sold my track car it gave me a chance to try out my new camera. Davy
  10. Glyn, How long have you been using the yellow pads? I've got a set fitted to my track car on AP 330mm 6 pots. Also the same fitted to the standard rear calipers. What I found was they were ok, to start with, nothing special. Then they went through about 3 cycles on track when the pedal felt ok but the car wasn't slowing as well as it should. They were ok - then poor, ok - then poor, ok - then poor. After those 3 heat cycles they are great all the time. So they do take a bit of work to get them working when new pads are fitted, but now I don't think there's many Subarus that could brake later than me at Knockhill. I would add they are pretty sore on the discs. Dipsy, on my JDM STi road car, I use 1155's front and 1144's rear. Mintex OEM pads are rubbish, so would change those first.
  11. I'll be down with a few mates on Saturday. Will be needing the car to see the stages though, but will pop by to say hello. Davy
  12. Scoop are £150 painted, not £300. But for £300, it's buy 1 get 1 Free.
  13. I saw it happening, I think you've been really lucky, it could have been a lot worse. From what I saw the tyres seemed to act as a ramp that put you over the banking.
  14. Great day today, big thanks to JohnS. Also good to catch up with everyone again. Lots of good photos already. No doubt more will appear. There seemed to be groups of photographers on every corner. Car ran really good today ................ just wish I'd taken my slicks as the weather held out, even though it was soooooooooo cold. Just watched the videos from my rear facing camera. Managed to hold off the R8 for 6 laps. He was about 50m behind me and couldn't close the gap, right up until my fuel was that low it started to splutter and I had to slow up. And unless I was on an out-lap or an in-lap, that was all that passed me.
  15. It was the late 96, MY97 STi's that came with a 3 piece STi front splitter. I don't think your car would have had fog lamp though. Covers probably, but they don't fit over the lights.
  16. I took part in the TrackScotland event at the beginning of the month, and never noticed the alterations. Having said that at one point the rain was so heavy, I was going up the main straight and due to the amount of spray didn't realise there was 4 cars right in front of me and not the 2 I thought there was. sti_steve, I think they brought the £10k value out a few years back now, because the hot hatch days were turning into banger racing with sheds straight from the scrappies. They are a lot better now, with some expensive cars because they have groups for cars with or without MOT's. I don't have any problem getting my track car on for Top Marques days, and the car including the mods is only due me £4500 I think as long as they look tidy.
  17. Will you take £8k then Colin, since your looking at sites for selling. Only kidding mate.
  18. If both the UK and Import cars are from 1993-1998, they should both be 230 white. So should match ok. A V2 spoiler will fit your boot lid OK using the original 4 holes. David
  19. The front lip spoiler is made by Orciari in Italy. Not the easiest part or cheapest to get hold of these days. It's very similar to our P1 Styled lip spoiler. The overall shape and profile is the same, but with the 3 slots added to the middle. We have in the past been asked to fill these in to make it the same as the Orciari one. These a version available for early and later bumpers. One of the fog lamp covers has been replaced with a P1 cover, obviously with ducting added to provide cold air to an induction kit. The rear spoiler does look like the WRSport spoiler, but it would need a better photo to be sure. Other than having the skirts colour coded and some clear indicators, that's about it. David
  20. Couple of spoiler pictures from Nick. I've removed your reg plate. David
  21. Thanks Michelle, I'm sure Nick (my son) took a photo of your car on Friday, I'll post it up if you want. PS. I've replied to your mail, too David
  22. Scott has permission to use the images from our site. There are a number of companies that we supply parts to, and are all allowed to use the images. We do supply him with parts, sometimes painted, other times not. Obviously it's up to Scott what he sells these parts for, but I should add that when he places orders with us, he always pays immediately.
  23. Photo I took at the Donegal Rally in 2006.
  24. Subaru won 3 drivers World Championships 1995 McRae (Classic 4 door) 2001 Burns (Bug-eye 4 door) 2003 Solberg (Blob-eye 4 door) The 2 door 22B won a few rallies but never a drivers championship.
  25. Lyndsey did say you had just paid £400, so they must be looking at the 2007 registration date rather than the 2005 manufacturing date. The JDM imports are a strange one, they aren't mentioned on the DVLA web-site. When I bought mine, it came into the UK under the older SVA rules - hence no emission figure. But a few years later this was changed to the ESVA, and from then a CO figure from the model report was used. Although there does seem to be some exceptions to those rules too. I'm sure Dipsy told me he has a CO figure but still cheap road tax. He would need to confirm that - it was a while ago we talked about it. I would argue that your car is a 55 plate, manufactured in 2005, and would be valued for trade-ins or insurance payouts as a 2005 / 55 plate. So why pay higher road tax for a 2007 model. That's the route I would go down, probably not get anywhere, but worth a try. David
