  1. Jokes aside- my mechanically perfect but bent 03 sti will be probably going through a salvage auction in the next week or two. The shells bent from bouncing side on into a lampost at 30 but othwise it drives perfectly. It woul make a perfect base to build into a kit or project car. The engine has 37000miles and always at standard boost too. Gearbox is perfect too. Now if only I could cut the platform out and drop a beetle or moggy body over it it would be hillarious fun! I could possibly find out details but I know rally prep and specialist breakers often get to have first dabs on cars like mine.
  2. Still the best thread on here! Keep it up Baz. If you ever fancy going backwards, there will be a blob in the salvage auctions soon full of mint standard parts! Seriously , it shows how much goes into a proper mod. The replacement I'm after has mods and the fuel pump upgrade was cocked up- the level sensor is catching it.
  3. I've just agreed to buy a car just like it, same year, etc. Mine is supposed to put out 360bhp, but it has a 4" straight through pipe and updated pump and filter panel. The fuel gauge won't read above half so clearly was fitted by the garage trainee monkey! I'll be getting it remapped to standard as soon as I get it! Luckily only done in December and car mostly commutes so can't get a good blast. Keep us informed if you go ahead.
  4. Agreed- the red is a true crime! Other than that it looks like a fine car!
  5. Well, went to have a look today. Hmm. Little mark on front bumper, scuff on rear side of rear bumper that'll cost £50 to fix and the front tyres are worn on the outer edge. EBC discs and Red Stuff pads will do for now, but my old car needed it's discs and pads changing and these will last longer than them. most importantly, no dents anywhere. I was wondering what subaru meant by a top stereo and Sat Nav system, but it turns out to be a low to mid range Pioneer single DIN CD/stereo with Bluetooth and ipod connector. I've got something simlar in my crappy Vectra. The soundproofing is much nicer though, needs it with the big back box fitted. I spoke to my mate who said the tyre wear is just cornering as these things came without any front camber on them standard. The Sat Nav is CRAP though. it's a Traffic Master unit, probably job lot fitted when they get the trackback installed. that'll be in the bin before I even drive it! All in all price is OK for everything and de-badged, and with the fogs, low spoiler on the rear end and silver paint, and the smaller intake that the '06 cars all have, it looks quite restrained indeed. You'd definitely think WRX, the only thing that looks "wrong" is the HID lights and Brembos. Everything else is there, LSD in front, C-Diff, leather trim, rear under diffuser. Definitely suits me more than electric blue and big spoilers to be honest. Hands shook- should get it next week.
  6. Well, What a month that was. Car ran perfectly on the F1 Goodyears, they really transformed in in the wet. Had a few runs over the Slock and fell completely in love with the car.... ...then came the fateful morning of Feb 4th and after encountering black ice next to the airport, (while inside the speed limit and driving gently I might stress) I ended up broadsiding a lampost and burying it in the hedge. If you go past and see the work to put a new post in, that was me that was! News is it's a write off, damn shame for such a mint car. It was totally standard, exhaust, engine, interior, everything. Bugger! Hopefully get another soon. News soon. End of thread then.
  7. Not high tax or insurance in Isle of Man though...hence getting a local car. This Island is crawling with Scoobies, seriously. You can't drive for any length of time without seeing some about. Most are not members here, but on a weekend, the one garage that sells reliable V-Power has a queue of Scoobies lined up for a drink. It does help having protected no-claims and being 40 as well! This one will be driven a bit more carefully as well! mark.
  8. So. Mr blue blobeye sti is a write off so hopefully paid out this week. Of course I'm looking for another right away and I've been offered an '06 hawkeye Sti spec D in mint condition- 27k and recently given a 360hp map and straight through pipe. Standard exhaust comes with the car so I can remap it a bit tamer as soon as I get it. Does 12k sound about right? The spec is awesome, just what I'm after, leather, soundproofing and subtle looks. Shall I?
  9. How weird that the day after I repllied to your post, I got wiped out as well! Mine is definitely a write off! Best of luck on the repairs, mine has a bent shell with a lampost "b" post collision on black ice........
  10. I did, but trust me, it's no better on black ice than any other car!
  11. Cosworth are definitely an engine company, not a chassis and car preparation outfit like Prodrive excel at. If you want a serious powerplant, then Cosworth is the place. Now a Prodrive chassis upgrade with Cosworth built engine would be nice..... (then again a decent insurance settlement for my Written off P&J would also make my week!!)
  12. Nice idea but I can't get a courtesy car with my insurer as it was a single car accident with no third party to blame. Hopefully I'll get a reasonable settlement, but I still might do a deal and try to find a shell to swap it into as everything on the car bar cosmetics is still OK. Even drives OK.
  13. Sti's usually have a viscous centre diff, helical torque sensing rear LSD and open front diff. Doesn't help much on black ice, mind! Ahem. Sorry. No diff will defeat the laws of physics ( or Manx lamp posts). Best car I've driven in snow was a Peugeot 106 diesel. Nothing stopped it.
  14. Once again, thanks so much for all your thoughts, all much appreciated. So glad I hadn't got round to buying the stereo stuff yet! If it survives an impact like that, no wonder a full cage makes them nearly unstoppable and an awesome rally car! Early days yet, it's pretty clear cut. Hopefully an engineer's report will be done to value it early next week and I can move on and start looking for the replacement. Once again thanks to you all. Mark.
  15. I certainly hope I'll be able to afford another one- and it would have to be just like it in every way!
  16. Well that's it. No longer a Scooby owner. Went to overtake a car on the dual bit outside the airport this morning (40 limit and I was doing just that) and came across a very extensive patch of sheet black ice. Three attempts to pull it straight and unsuccessful- ended up in the hedge and flipped round into a lamp post. These NewAge cars are built nice and strong I have to say. Roof is creased and floor well bent in area of passenger side B pillar. Front end damage and it's not even worth guessing if it will be written off really. Damn shame. My scoob and I were just getting aquainted after two months. It kept me safe through the snow and Ice and nearly made it through winter. First crash in 23 years of trying........
  17. Doesn't look too bad at all to be honest. The impact was to the front wing in a very minor intrusion kind of way. The wing bent in a touch and this caused the car to catch the front of the door and pull it back which went easily. Overall, once the doors and wing are off, the 'A' pillar may not have had any damage at all as the door skin and joint would have gone easily. The important thing is to look at the two sides of the front door hinges and see that they are the same. Then look at the 'B' pillar the same way if you can get the front door open. There may be slight damage to the door shut catch area, but this would "pull" out fairly straight forwardly. Best of luck.
  18. I'd post pictures but the body hasn't come yet so it's a rolling (loony fast) chassis right now. I can alter front and rear camber, roll centre, castor, toe, anti dive/squat, and all sorts of other stuff, which is bloody confusing to be fair. It's the car they race in the world championships so is pukka. I've set it up with 17 turn motor, (good compromise and will give reliable 45-50mph in about 50m) and with 3 degrees rear toe in, 1.5 degrees front toe in and 1.5' of neg camber front and rear. I have zero anti dive and squat with droop set at f5r6 and and ride heights ar f4/r5 as a starting point. It just looks like a any carbon chassis, fully adjustabel top spec r/c electric car really.......pics to follow. It will look better with the scooby body on, that's for sure!
  19. I have just finished building an R/C Scooby. anyone else got one? Actually I've got a couple now, all 1/10th scale. Two £30 Ebay toys, one a blob, one a bug, both cheapo all or nothing type radio gear but loads of fun. The daddy is my HPI Pro-4 4x4 with a 190mm body on with 2004 Solberg Monte Carlo stickers. 17 turn motor and an amazing adjustable bit of kit. CV driveshafts, alloy shocks, ti turnbuckles adjustable tow, camber castor, kingkin, you name it. The front one-way Diff is amazing but difficult to get my head around why? Still you can get viscous, torsen and mechanical helical diffs for these things as well. Only an electric and does 60mph if I gear it right. Tyres are £6.99 a pair so I can be a hooligan and save a fortune on the real one!
  20. Eh Baz? Why are you not going for the front monut intercooler then? With all the other mods I'd expect that and a WRC bonnet as well, with the big hole in the top for cooling. Comin on well fella, well done so far!
  21. I'm usually Douglas to the airport most days hence not crossing paths. I must find a dyno somewhere because my sti doesn't feel very quick- that'll teach me to put a standard cat and back box back onto it. Has to be quiet unfortunately, close etiquete what with going to work at 5am some days..
  22. Depends on what age car you have. I only know blobs have the same outer set of holes but also have five extra ones. One in each corner and three across the rear of the lid. Shouldn't be difficult to measure and mark up but it's a one way thing.... Once you've done it you can't really go back. You could buy. Boot lid as well to go with it if you wanted. Sti cars tend to go in head first due to the terminal understeer anyway!
  23. Yes too cold indeed. Plus the big road seems to be closed a lot recently. six days just to reply to you....says it all. I'd love to meet up some time, getting most scooby owners to even wave is like pulling teeth round here. Miserable lot.
  24. Should work anytime the car is stationary. engine on or off. You turn left to set the desired REV figure, (in hundreds) then after a few second as above. The light works from the numbers the horn from the ON or --. I set mine to 3000rpm in winter driving conditions when it's really icy. 6500 normally.
  25. Hi, First of all, remember all of the basics looking for a car. Check the seller has a V5, if it's a dealer check the warranty that's offered. Check the service history, and only then, if you are happy the details are all correct, go take a look. The 2002 WRX should be a "bugeye". you are looking for non standard bits first, silly big exhaust, STi oversize bonnet scoop, aftermarket headlights, etc. Once under the front bonnet, look for an aftermarket dump valve- a lump bolted to the intercooler on top of the engine. if it has a pipe attached that runs back down, that's original, but if it is all anodised and has a bellmouth on the side, then it's non standard. Ask if the original is with the car. The exhaust is often modified. Most are cheapo loud de-cat jobs. Is the stereo original (they are crap BTW.)? Look under the car for damage/dents on the sills, etc. Generally, the Newage shouldn't have ANY rust on it anywhere. Subarus are brilliant for this so if there is walk away. WRX should have KYB shocks that are a third the price of the Sti Bilsteins. ditto the Subaru Red coloured brakes. All the usual caveats of dents, chips and other bodywork damage need looking at- try to look at it dry not wet. Best of luck. Scoobies are bad in the way they make you falll in love wit hthem on the first drive, -it's very easy not to be objective once you're driven it, unlike most cars. I bet a lot of us bought the first one we test drove without intending to as well!
