OK no probs. I may be free on sunday, actually not sure about sat at the moment either. have you been able to measure the diameter yet??? She looks pretty good there. Should be blinding after you've finished with the acrylic Ben

Ok here is quick exhaust video Cheers Ben

Easy as that eh?? Well I'll look forward to watching you do that Anyway, who said I was a benjamin?? (i hate it when your right)

Thanks for the nice comments, cheers guys I took inspiration from the video I found on youtube of the Miltek system. That was the one I liked the sound of best, then I found some photos of it to see how it was layed out. I nearly made two straight through silencers, one for each side (like the Haywood and scott) but in the end went for the single which is the same size as the prodrive one, but with less resistance inside. I'm glad I did as I think it would have ended up louder than I would like. Who knows I might have even released a few more horses Cheers Ben

Yay finally the exhaust is done Seems like it took forever. I had intended on taking more photos of it but time was slipping and many late nights were spent at work trying to get it finshed, one became an early morning I remade the cat pipe, cetre pipe and backbox. The cat pipe has a s/steel flange cut to marry the end of the down pipe. The original tube was 2 1/2" in diameter but was made from quite thick metal. I have remade it in 20swg (0.9mm) thick 304 s/steel and kept the original diameter. At the end of the cat pipe where it joins the centre pipe I have done away with the sprung ball joint and used male/female rings with V band clamps. Also this pipe needed a bracket to hard mount it to the diff casing and a lambda sensor boss. The centre pipe was made from 60mm tube. This I have upped to 2 1/2" (63.5mm) and again made it from 0.9mm wall tube. I replaced the ball joint with a v band clamp which is a solid joint so to introduce some flexibility back into the system I have a s/steel braided flexi section. Then it runs down the car in the original channel, however I managed to get it a little higher than the stock one. This was helped by the fact that my centre pipe enters the backbox in the centre instead of one side like the original. There is another v band clamp just before the backbox. The backbox is also made from 0.9mm sheet, but where the centre pipe enters it there is a doubler made from 1.2mm sheet to reinforce this area. Is is cut in the shape of a "splat" to reduce the risk of vibration cracking and is the same for the "flower" which is welded around the lambda boss sensor. The backbox has s/steel perf tube inside. They are merged at the side where the centre pipe enters and then split off to each side of the box. This part is 60mm tube. Then there is another bend out of the box to the tail pipes where it cones up to the tail pipe size of 3 1/2". That is the same size as the Prodrive box I took off. I have only made a single tail pipe exit each side as this was quicker and I didn't know if it would even sound ok I can change this at a later date if I wish but I thought I see how the single looks. So it was all finished on friday night and the sound................ well it was exactly what I hoped for. I sounds pretty stock on tick over and if you just tickling around it is still quite subtle, tho it does sound more meaty still. Then when you open her up there is a nice flat four rumble and a bit of a bark too. On coast there are some pops too, but again not all the time and quite subtle. Thats exactly what I was after. Inside you can hear it a lot better and it has got rid of the really annoying bass drone that it had. All round winner I made a video but it not that great so will have a go with the apprentices after work tomorrow. Any thoughts on the tail pipes?? Here is the original Cheers Ben Oh I also got the Whiteline rear ARB and link braces fitted today. Body roll has deffo been reduced and feels more positive in the corners. Will do the positive traction kit this week

yeh, sorry should have text back but got way laid Ben

Hey Stu Have you had a chance to measure the pipe diameter yet?? I want to make sure there will be something suitable here before you make a wasted journey Ben

1. Big 'D' 2. Bakerzone 3. Mobius 1 - ben 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

Yeh I'd like two of those as well Ben

OK I may go to work and do a bit on my exhaust at the weekend anyway (maybe both days just to get it done and dusted) My weekend plans usually revolve around the weather and if it is suitable to fly my planes or not, so if its ok with you we can make a decision closer to next weekend when the weather forecast is more reliable? Do try and measure the pipe as accurately as you can, then I can see if we even have any material in stock. We may even have a small piece of samco hose to use as a joiner if you want to go down that route instead of welding. Cheers Ben

Or a saturday/sunday. I am the fab shop foreman so I have a key, can come and go as I please I'll pm you my number then you can catch me when you want Ben
-
Oh, ok I thought maybe you especially wanted it in stainless. It looks like Aluminium to me. That can be polished to a mirror finish and is usually what induction pipes are made from Are you around Bicester at any point?? Probably the easiest thing is to call past me at work. Then we can have a measure and look at the possibilities?? I finish at 4:30 at the mo. It could be done while you wait, prob not take longer than 30-40 mins. (I would preferably do it out of work time so 4:30 onwards or early in the morning before 8am) Ben
-
Just another thought, I could weld the straight on to your existing pipe thus doing away with the need for more flexi pipe to join the two together?? Looks like ali in the photo Ben
-
Looks like another job for a fabby. What diameter do you want? Would you not like it in Ali?? I can put a swage on each end for the jubilee clip if in ali. Having said that we may have some thin gauge s/steel that I could swage. Looks like you'll need that polished to match you sparkling new engine bay Ben

I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you At least I converted one of you :madnoel: Stum, can't wait to try these B roads, deffo up for a mini meet Ben
-
Thanks for the kind words mate. Shame I didn't get to stay too long and talk to more people, but there is always next time I will continue to work on the exhaust this week and may get it done next weekend. Will put a video up. Cheers Ben
-
I won't be happy if I've caught any of that Good to see everyone and put some faces to the names Shame I had to shoot off early, but will deffo make the next one. Any plans for a mini meet this month, I'm up for it, didn't get to hear anyone's running :madnoel: Took a few pics in the car park, one of which Hannah was quite desperate to get out of so I had to put that one in ........................na only joking Cheers all Ben
-
I shall be going with the dirty look as well. When its wet it looks clean anyway :madnoel: I was thinking of a quick splash and dash before leaving in the morning but looks like it will already be raining by the meat time, and I would have less time in bed - not good See you all tomorrow Chris, do you want to convoy over? What time you leaving? Ben
-
Yeh and that was just my welding Chris didn't try. He seemed to be concentrating hard on not falling asleep with boredom so I thought best not to push it So the demazdification continued today. The grill had been left to harden over night ready for fitment today. In the end Chris very kindly did this for me whilst I made his cold air shield (cheers Chris ) I think it now looks a whole world better. As Chris said it's a shame the plastic bar behind the grill is so obvious but it's less so than on the original Was fairly easy to get the bumper off and make the change. We also had a look at the splitter. We agreed that the best way forward on that was to add some extra GRP to it instead of trying to force it into shape. There is a small portion each side that has had too much trimmed of it so it leaves a gap between it and the bumper. I'll work on that this week Mazda??.......................where??............... I hope this is enough to keep you happy Matty?? Cheers Ben
-
If the hose that we duct to the front bumper is of equal or slightly larger diameter then surly the only restriction is the size of the inlet hole in the original sensor pipe and the inlet hole in the manifold?? It doesn't matter how big your filter is if that air cant go anywhere after it???? Just some thoughts Chris, just eating my toast now won't be a mo.............. Have you found the diameter of the pipe you want to run into your wing yet?? We can't just make that silly filter shield you found in the above post, its just no where near complicated enough Plus it doesn't look like it needs any welding so you wont be able to use your new found skill..........I hope you have your learning head on today Ben
