  1. Talking about front seats...... Can you take a seat cushion from a passenger seat and splice it on to a driver side frame/mech. car is 1998 STI V4. my driver seat is getting a bit bare on driver side only. Back and bolsters are mint, its just the cushion arse bit thats eff'd. (the grey suede bit) ebay had lots of passenger side ones that are cheap enough but a new driver side in top nick is too expensive. hence wanting to get one of these and make a good driver seat out of mine + 2nd hand passenger seat.
  2. Yo, get your jerry cans out. this friday only 5p off per litre of v-power. see link for petrol stations: http://www-static.shell.com/static/gbr/downloads/products_services/participating_sites_list.pdf enjoy......
  3. Had a suggestion from some guys at LADS. saying the strut top mount is seized, this is causing the problem. gonna strip it down and lube up.... and see if that cures it...
  4. Anyone ever seen this before and know whats up? passenger side front shock absorber spring won't sit still. it is a MY98 STI4 Wagon, standard suspension. when cornering there is a knock as the car gets weighted to front corner and somtimes a knock when un-weighting (straightening out etc). the spring is moving in the plate/cup at the bottom, there is a notch that the spring is supposed to sit in but when I re-position it (quite difficult to move by hand when jacked up) it doesnt stay in place long.... the other day, the spring was hanging over the edge of the bottom cup/plate bit please don't suggest coil overs or anything that costs loads of money..... need a cheap fix.....
  5. I got p1ssed off having to drive the car back to the dealers for a couple of little things, and that was in manchester, I live in warrington. 25 miles away check the dealers warranty policy, will they require the car back to hampshire for any reason??
  6. A friend of mine, had a my2000 uk turbo for years, loved it, neglected it, loved it, neglected it...... He decided, against my advise to sell up 3 months ago, got himself a 55plate bmw 320 or something like that.... He is going to look at a STI8 this weekend........
  7. was that on v-power? I assume it was, maybe add a little summat extra, 5% meth blend? not had any experience with uk versions, but my STIv4 loves it. not all the time though, just for track days etc.. fold mirrors in? aerial down......
  8. I don't think I would keep up a dealer service history on a 10 yr old car. I would do it myself. What did the seller say about it? Ask seller what oil is in it........they should know.... Take out the dip stick and look at the oil on a white cloth, should be nice mid/light brown. If its black, it hasn't been looked after, do a runner. try and find out without asking direct, if the owner lets it warm up and down properly.... check for odd wear on tyres. drive it. see what its like....... with the mods done on it, it could do with a remap. ask if it has. the ecu in that car should be mappable...... gut instinct usually tells me what to do...............
  9. just to throw a spanner in the works............ bear in mind a uk model will have been on uk roads for over 10 years. thats a lot of salt and rust possibilities. (and supermarket carpark door dings) Japan doesn't salt roads, so fresh imports will tend to be much cleaner. Yes I know there are a dozen reasons not to get an import, running on 99ron only, insurance is a bit dearer, dodgy radio frequencies, etc etc etc...... but, get yourself a 1999-2000 version 5 or 6 STI - what a car ! (wish I got one myself - I went for a 1998 ver4 STI good but ECU is locked down ) you do get what you pay for with imprezas............
  10. just looking around at fuel pumps, most of them seem to be ones that go in the fuel tank. Am I right in guessing these are not suitable for me. I have a standard fuel system on my car. I think I need: external in line fuel pump. which brand is best? one swirl pot. Is 1 litre ok or do I need bigger? some fuel pipe to fit. new fuel filter while I am about it. Is that me sorted?
  11. Quality diagram. It all makes sense. With my car being standard STI ver4 Wagon, do I have a high pressure fuel pump and regulator? and for that matter, a return pipe to the tank? Also, I have read somewhere there may be a need to mod the fuel supply to parallel instead of serial supply to the injectors? Or is this just for big power modded engines? Thanks for all the help so far Iain...... Warren.
  12. I looked on ebay, they seem to be around 40 quid for a 1 litre swirl pot. but where should you fit them?
  13. sounds very probable........... its always after a right hand bend. and yes, the fuel will be about 1/3 or 1/4 tank............ please excuse the newbie, Whats a swirl pot?
