It's turbo stall.
Basically when you lift off the throttle after being on boost it traps the pressure between the throttle body butterfly and the turbo. The pressure causes the turbo to slow down which is the noise you hear.
Here endith my lesson

I love being offshore
nice few bits and bobs there.
I have now started getting the bits I buy delivered to my mates garage so she doesn't know
-
only one part i would like to buy from you m8 and you shall have a goat about that
I touch goats but due to popular demand I have none left
-
i'm sure you could have just sold him a car mate never mind bits
Na mate the cars are all mine just a couple spare parts
-
Looks good craig and in the best colour
Whats the mileage? If you need any bits give me a shout
-
V4 type-r is what that is Can tell by poistion of coil pack amongst other things
Like the HKS dump valve as well
-
thats probably no bad thing Andy ;)think i may have had a touch of the old red mist at that point.....
What is it with you and bikers?
Looks like I missed a good laugh and superb weather.
Had a superb time in Portugal golfing and even had a hole in 1

Enjoy folks I will have a car ready for next year.
I try not to get to much of a tan in Portugal
-
Get one without vent looks great
-
Just sit 2 feet from a lorry or big van as you go past the cameras works every time
-
Yes second for AS performance will probably price match if your nice
-
Not with a complete tool at the wheel it wouldn't. Thats the only place a classic is better than a newage, the track so unless you use your car for this the newage is better
Your classic would get beaten by a Toyota IQ just now lol
It would indeed.
All I am going to say is do it right do it once
It will be worth the wait.
Mine is very track orientated but still road legal
-
you so sure about that ???
With the same bhp yes classics are faster. I would also go as far to say around knockhill a 450 classic would beat a new age of any bhp
-
-
That took longer than I thought
Look forward to seeing what you buy.
Classics rule anything newer is shaft and slow
-
But hope to be worth it when it comes together mate.
Still running the front turbo but with a bigger exh housing
How's yours ciaran?
Engine and box are going for a re-furb next month and then have to put it back together with the new turbo and then decide what colour?
Graham loving the colour.

Probably before mines Chris
That not exactly hard is it Peter

indeed the amount of times i forget that this is the case and have to brave it up till the next shell station
-
What are you getting done to it now? Wideboy?
-
Good luck with the build I hope to see it in 2012 please ha ..
You will no saying when though
-
You should manage a 10 with 700bhp
Good luck with it all look forward to the pics.
Have to say going down hill towards the hair pin at knockhill is a scary thought though
-
wow, thread resurrection!!!
so whats been happening to the golf then? and have you still got the same one? that must be almost a year, surely a record for you Ciaran???
Yes same mk5 gti and yes a year is a record. Has to be the best all round everyday car I have had. Just a set of 18" BBS wheels, few handling mods and were remap coming up shortly.
Aim is to have the impreza going at high 400s by the end of the year
-
Once again good luck in getting it on road this year mate
Don't need luck just lots of hard work
So I guess we'll not be seeing it at any meets in the near future?
Pretty much just the pimped out golf

Okay finally a plan. Engine is coming out next month for a refresh, the PPG is getting built into an r180 DCCD
Then I only have to
Remove engine and box
Install engine and swap drivetrain out for complete r180
Install the cage and door bars
Install fuel set up
Install firewall
Install reversed inlet manifold and modify pipe work
Install new turbo which will be SC46
Buy syvecs
Get the cat MOT'd
Get new rotors and pads for the AP's
Install rear brembos
Assist in the painting of the car (thankfully this is already paid for) in memory
of the RB5 the car will be going steel blue (rb5 grey)
Other thing I have to do is work to raise the money to pay for all this
Will be looking to mount my fuel cell as low down as possible.
Problem is the Anti roll bar is in the way. I was wondering is it possible to have custom anti roll bars
Made?

Granted it is bad for the turbo.
But how would it increase lag?
