the original 80's style Anti-Lag-Systems, as used in the Grp B Quattro, used to run off an aux injector and air supply because the std 80s ecu were very primitive units, so your correct Modern day systems run off the std injectors and air supply but still require some way of stopping the pressurised air getting to the servo and rendering your brakes unusable It basically retards the ign until the power stroke and floods it with fuel. When it ignites the force of the expanding gases causes the exh wheel in the turbo to spin thus creating boost on the compressor side. Proper ALS only runs on part throttle/closed throttle situtions and should run normal ignition levels at full throttle the reason GEMS can do ALS is the abilty to store a second map and when the switch is thrown it will now read from the 2nd map, the 2nd map conatains the Anti lag map and the first map is the road map My old classic ran GEMS, for a time, and suffered the same symptoms as Johnny50 and required a proper mapper to sort with a relative degree of success. On its initial MAP it would produce about 0.1 bar on a closed throttle after fitting a Prodrive dongle hose, which basically closed of the idle return and brake servo return, and getting a proper map on it. The car would produce 1 bar of boost on a closed throttle at 1300rpm Main benefit of GEMs is it does away with the MAF sensor and relies on an Air Temp sensor located near the throttle body Big drawback is AndyF does not map the pesky thing and i do not think it has any kind of live Knock Correction. The ECUTEK stills keeps the onboard diagnostic intact and will throw a CEL if any of the perameters fall out of line. Personnaly i would go for the ECUTEK or better still sell the new age and buy a classic with a Apexi PowerFC

Andy, your resume looks up to spec...... Looking at the end of the month to do the dirty deed Stephen I am on NTL cable My mothers PC is right next to the NTL Modem My new laptop is all singing and dancing Wireless doo dah Xbox 360 Wireless adapter is 60 notes The old set up was my mothers PC was the host and i networked the 2 together using a crossover ethernet cable and 2 network cards The down side of this was my mothers PC was on 24/7, the reason it blew when the power surge happened, the Ethernet cable goes from window to window {nasty draft for the last 3 years}, and i need to swap over cables if i wanna play the Xbox 360 I need to go Wireless as i now have a proper laptop and can do this without wires, so i am told. I am not gonna install or touch anything on the new PC and leave it to FS, Andy, Stephen or unknown as i have a habit of having a Basil Fawlty moment when trying this stuff I honstley do not know how i am getting internet access on this laptop as i just plugged in a normal RJ45 cable, reset the modem, clicked on IE and it connected. Getting normal 750k - 850k download speeds so it might be running our connection or it might not Grant

<< Because Prodrive got a hold of a perfectly decent car and de-tuned it for UK market. IMHO. >> You said it Grant
-
The real Prodrive Style, please note picture 5 Would the real Prodrive Style that was re-imported back from the UK please stand up Now you can see the car that your Type UK was based on and i do applaud you for stating the Type UK part
-
Like what points are you referring to Still would like to know about the re-exporting them back to Japan as Prodrive Style cars Grant
-
With the operational word being TYPE UK, your so called Prodrive Style has the same chassis code as a Type UK STI and the real Prodrive Style has its own unique chassis code The car is a Subaru Impreza STI Type UK PPP fitted with a Prodrive Styling kit The car is fitted from the factory as a UK car with some JDM style parts on it, all cosmetic stuff and no actual performance parts. It was made in the factory as a Type UK STI then fitted in the UK with some cosmetic extras to give the illusion of exclusivity. Where as the real Subaru Impreza Prodrive Style is a completely different car which has std factory features such as DCCD, Roof Scoop, Prodrive seats and BBS alloys. The Prodrive Style only had 400 cars built and these were built ground up as Prodrive Style as opposed to the 750 conversions in the UK being made to std Type UK STI's What about your point of re-exporting cars back to Japan as Prodrive Style models? My point is your car is not a real Prodrive Style but mearly a UK car, created in the annals of International Motors to boost flagging sales with some cosmetic touches on it trying to cash in on the Prodrive Style name. The car was not built in Japan as a Prodrive Style, then exported to the UK in a limited number greater that what the home market got. Grant

the squiggle replied to wrxmania's topic in Scottish Scoobies

<< "A lot of cr*p Your car is a STI Type UK fitted with a Prodrive Styling Pack not a Prodrive Style If your car is a Prodrive Style, which was JDM only and came with a roof scoop and DCCD then i am a vicars auntie God bless you for thinking that but do not give out duff info like that, keep that to your own website " Me thinks a wee appology may be in order , remember it takes a bigger man to say I WAS WRONG . Andy. P.s I dont appreciate your pisstake of my familly name , very uncalled for >> No pisstake here as it is duff info, although in now realise that Malky's surname is Duff and will amend the original post to "God bless you for thinking that but do not give out cr*p info like that, keep that to your own website " Just a coincedence, fruedian slip or whatever I always put my hand up if i get something wrong but when i have a Japanese publication in front of me giving it to me in full colour then i am NOT wrong on this occasion. So if Malky is looking for an apology he can get in line behind Wullie and Claire who i also believe are looking for apology from me Grant

Clicked on all of them and i see mainly references to Styling additions and mention of the Prodrive Performance Pack. First 2 were unknown authors on Yahoo cars. Very authorotive! Number 3 was a reference to 4car website which is a look at the 2003 model with a reference to your Prodrive Style like the high level spoiler Number 4 IWOC, is also referring to styling issues like the blue dials Could not be arsed clicking and reading the rest as i get the jist of where you are coming from. Just the same as they stopped calling the upgrades to the model as "Version" in 2000 with the demise of the classic shape but everyone over here continues to refer to the Type UK STI as a Version 7 or 8 when its proper name was/is a STI Type UK . Almost as annoying as classic UK car owners calling thier car a WRX but not quite. I do not copy and paste regurgetated info in the wrong context, i base my info on direct Japanese sources not UK journos that are mainly guessing about car monikers My reference is Impreza Magazine, a Hyper Rev publication and not available in this country, unless you are sad like me and import it yourself, with pictures of the new model lineup which shows the Prodrive Style having the roof scoop, dccd and a host of other goodies that the UK Prodrive Stlye does not appear to have. All of the styling touches on your car were std on the JDM std STI and the Prodrive Style was an attempt by Subaru Uk to jazz up the exterior of an awkward looking car to help boost sales which at that time were in freefall. The JDM STI Prodrive Style was a very different car to the STI Type Uk Prodrive Style that you are referring to. If i had a UK Prodrive Style and a JDM Prodrive Style then i know which one i would wanna drive Proper Mini Cooper ala' 1968 or a BMW Cooper circa 2005, both Mini Coopers but very different cars, one is a real drivers car and the other is trying to cash in on the Cooper branding JDM Civic Type R or UK Civic Type R, one has 225bhp and LSD the other has 200bhp and no LSD. It was Honda UK that chose the Type R moniker for the new sporty version of the Civic to cash in on the cult status of the Type R brand. In Japan the Type R comes in any colour you like as long as it is white but the UK car is not available in white as the white colour is applied to all real Type R's Are you also trying to say that they built some cars in Japan the exported them to the UK and then re- imported them as Prodrive Style. Never going to happen as they are built on different production facilties to completely different specs The STI Type UK and all the other non-jdm models are built in a seperate production facilty to the JDM STI and WRX's. By the way they never really found a double decker bus on the moon it was a hoax by the Sunday Sport, my point is do not follow in with what so called authorities on a subject, and i include International Motors of Cheam in this statement. The minute the called the bug-eye a WRX they lost all respect from me as the UK WRX is not fit enough to lace a real JDM WRX's boots and do not get me started on the comparison between a JDM STI and a UK STI which is in essence a detuned JDM WRX Rant over In reply to Des's original question, i would go for the JDM STI any day but you probably guessed that Grant Away for a drive in my 95 WRC car oh sorry it is just a Blue Subaru Impreza WRX STI Version 2 Limited

<< There are two different STI Type Uk bugeye models, the standard one and the ?Prodrive Style? one which I have, both cars have the same power, suspension etc, the only difference were the different front bumper & grill, the side skirts, the high level rear spoiler and blue faced dials. If you are looking for anymore info, please have a look at my website as I have the technical/model info on it listed under my car. >> A lot of cr*p Your car is a STI Type UK fitted with a Prodrive Styling Pack not a Prodrive Style If your car is a Prodrive Style, which was JDM only and came with a roof scoop and DCCD then i am a vicars auntie God bless you for thinking that but do not give out cr&p info like that, keep that to your own website

<< marks and spencers fitted boxers for me every time >> I don't understand the term fitted Are they custom made for your crotch specifics by a young man in the M+S lingerie dept with roving hands and a keen eye? Can you get unfitted shorts from Marks and Spencer? These are questions i feel must be answered as it is causing me some discomfort knowing that there is man touching going on in the fitting room at M+S. Grant
